The Xiaomi Redmi 11 Pro 5G is the successor to my favorite phone from last year, the Redmi Note 10 Pro.

It’s a solid phone, but it’s unlikely to be one of the best phones of 2022. The Redmi Note 11 Pro gets 5G, but with a lower-end processor, all things considered, and the camera range is weaker.

Xiaomi launched several affordable phones last year, such as the powerful Poco X3 Pro and the Redmi Note 10 Pro with its low-end camera lens. Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G has this little “standout” character.

It’s so good at display technology, that the 6.67-inch 120Hz OLED is unlikely to be better at this price point.

And that price? It costs $329 in the US and 9,299 in Europe, which is likely to be at least 9,279 in the UK. This is for models with 64GB of storage; The revised 128GB version is likely to be a bit more expensive.

It’s a solid deal and there’s a lot to like about it. However, it feels that Xiaomi’s budget potential is weakening, especially when the interior of the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G is very similar to the Xiaomi Poco X4 Pro.

The Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G looks different from its predecessor and almost any other new budget Xiaomi phone. The latest version of Android that can be compared is the big curved board. Too big for some, perhaps, but mostly good for audiences looking for a bigger Android screen that offers better value than the likes of Samsung.

The curves are out this year, replaced by straight sections and a boxer feel. While I like the curved glass on the back of the Redmi Note 10 Pro, the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G is thinner than some budget Xiaomi phones thanks to its 8.1mm thickness.

It’s also good to see that unlike other manufacturers Xiaomi is still able to make glass phones at this price. The Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G has a Gorilla Glass 5 screen cover and an unspecified flat glass panel on the back.

Redmi Note 11 Pro 5g Review — Not Bad, But Not Great

When the type of glass is not specified, you can be sure that it is cheaper and less durable than the latest generation of Gorilla Glass. However, the back of the device feels better than the plastic back of the Redmi Note 11, the “unsupported” version.

The glass back has a smooth surface with a light reaction layer, although Xiaomi’s photos show a slightly more attractive blue version.

Both sides are plastic, but the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G build is superior to most competitors. Xiaomi comes with a case in the box and you can use it too. But it will hide the back finish which looks good.

There are no factory-installed screen protectors at the moment, which is a shame. Although these are always simple plastic panels, at least they avoid accidentally scratching the screen before you decide whether to go bare or play it safe with a screen protector.

The rest of the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G is the regular Xiaomi. This phone has good stereo speakers for a budget Android. The maximum volume is strong, the sound is not thin, and with the driver below and above the screen is always useful for video, landscape and gaming.

Want the famous OLED rich colors? Well, you can get it in saturated screen mode. Colors can be adjusted for a lighter tone by opting for the standard profile.

The contrast of the OLED screen is clear to watch when you watch videos at night or in a dark room. There is no black light of the IPS LCD screen, which is still good to use with other affordable Xiaomi phones, there is no visible backlight when the screen is viewed off-axis.

After using the Developer Options function to get readings from the refresh rate, the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G seems to keep using 120Hz, unlike the software that doesn’t support 120Hz, then drops to 60Hz. Some advanced OLED panels can actively change the refresh rate to improve battery life.

The Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G also seems to lack support for HDR video. HDR YouTube clips will play on the older Note 10 Pro, but only at dynamic levels common to newer phones.

Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G runs Android 11 and MIUI interface. It comes with several add-ons installed, including some games that some owners will probably like. But you can remove them in a minute or two.

If you owned a Xiaomi a few years ago, the drop-down menu style is a novelty you’re used to noticing. Older Redmi phones let you swipe down once for a double notification for toggling a function. The new style sees you swipe from the left or right of the screen to select what you want.
