The Galaxy M31’s main camera takes pictures in daylight. With Scene Enhancer enabled, the camera does a lot of software processing to enhance the colors, which you can choose from more natural tones. So if you hold flowers, for example, the green will appear green and the pink will turn red. The images are hot, which means you won’t be able to capture natural white tones. In general, I found images captured in daylight lacking in contrast and dynamic range compared to the Redmi Note 8 Pro in this regard.

Finally, we have a 5MP macro camera that can get up to 3cm from the subject. Again, best used in daylight, the macro camera lets you capture some creative close-ups. Macros can appear clear and detailed as long as the subject is still. However, the colors look muted and washed out compared to the natural bokeh that can be captured using the original camera.
Galaxy M31 excels in video recording. Front and rear cameras can record UHD videos. The main camera also supports Super Steady mode, which does a great job of keeping video jitter-free during handheld recording.

Samsung has also upped the front camera from 16MP to 32MP, meaning selfies will arrive much faster on the Galaxy M31. While this is true and the selfie camera captures good detail in clothes and hair, it still softens the face even with the beauty mode turned off. The front camera also supports live focus, allowing you to adjust the bokeh intensity on the fly. The greater the bokeh effect, the more artificial the subject separation will be.
Overall, the Samsung Galaxy M31 comes with a versatile camera setup that allows you to capture images from different perspectives. And while the 64MP quad camera system looks like a nice upgrade thanks to the added macro lens, it doesn’t feel like a better quad camera setup than the competition in this segment.
