Live Face is Reallusion’s newest solution for iClone 7. This is an app for iPhone X that uses the phone’s depth sensor and tracking software to track a user’s face and simulates iClone Access via Reallusion’s Motion LIVE plugin to create realistic sequences. 3D drawing (opens in a new page).

Testing Perception Neuron Studio Mocap Suit Data In Iclone With Thanos
I’ve used a lot of different mocap systems over the years, both marker-based and marker-less, and while none are perfect, the iPhone X / Live Face method is solid and easy to use right off the bat. The proximity of the depth sensor means it is acceptable in dim and low light conditions, and implementing self-portraits on a phone than on a PC is better and less resource intensive.
The head, eye, and general views in Reallusion (opens in a new tab) are better and while the view may change when the user’s head is turned from the camera, this was not seen before using a single markerless computer system. There are some language limitations due to search accuracy – even with asymmetrical mouth behaviors like growling and divergent eyebrows, which means it’s impossible to raise the human eyebrow today with Live Face. Despite the limitations, the tracking is very robust and covers cheek extensions – something I haven’t seen with other markerless systems.
Lipsync works well with Live Face by default, though users can change the lipsync feature by calibrating with the mouth slightly open (to force the mouth to close), and editing the Dynamic slider in Motion LIVE UI.
There’s no denying that the iPhone X (unlocked) is expensive, and assuming you have the iClone 7 and the integrated mocap plugin Motion LIVE, it costs around £230 for the app. use the phone for eye mocap in iClone. Even at the price of the iPhone itself, it’s a great value for a powerful face mocap solution. In fact, the combined cost of the phone and software is the same as iClone’s Faceware system.
Reallusion Ships Iclone 8
IPhone X/Live Face is a portable, convenient, and easy way to use face mocaps, and is the perfect addition to any animator’s toolbox. While it’s not perfect (Apple, fix the split brow look, please!), it can give great results with a little cleansing afterwards.
