The real hilt features an all-metal construction with a light-up blade and all the electronics that bring the sword to life. If you plan on pulling it off the shelf, it can play various sound effects to mimic various battle sequences, but it’ll also look great in your collection thanks to the included display stand.

Black Series Darth Vader Helmet

Hasbro always has a habit of releasing some new collectibles to go with their latest Star Wars properties, but I’m particularly fond of the newly released Black Series Kenobi. Granted, I might be a little biased about being a huge Obi-Wan fan, but the new version looks fantastic.

At first glance, Anakin Skywalker’s final face looks huge. It’s much bigger than any normal helmet, and if you’re a small-to-normal person wearing it, you’ll definitely feel more like a big-headed Chinese New Year doll walking around than a mighty Sith Zun host. But it seems to be scaled – if you were the same height as the original man in the Darth Vader suit. Actor David Prowse (actually the one in the suit) is about 1.96m (6ft 6in) tall, and the helmet is just the right size for that. We hate to admit it, but a lot of the time, the full-sized Darth Vader mask looks too small to be really scary. In full Vader costume, this would be a truly authentic, towering inhuman monster.

Hasbro’s Star Wars Figures Bring Darth Vader Back In Black

The helmet is divided into three parts, faithful to the design viewers saw in Star Wars Episode III. There is a collar part tied around the neck, a mask and fan that covers the front of the face, and a helmet that covers the head. The parts are also similar in shape to those seen in the movie, such as the locking mechanism from the collar to the mask. Yes, players can perfectly recreate the moment in the third episode when the burnt Anakin was first enclosed in the mask.

This helmet needs batteries to run, as it’s supposed to make the scary sound of Vader’s breather. Make sure you have AAA batteries and a screwdriver on hand.

Along with the battery comes sound effects, which is a very interesting feature. A button on the side makes the mask emit Vader’s signature breathing sound, which turns into a heavy hiss if you remove the mask section (aka the fan). Unfortunately it doesn’t sync with your breath, which would be a really cool add-on if complicated. One problem is that the breathing is a little too fast, which makes the voice less intimidating than the real Vader.

However, when wearing a mask, the breathing sound will be relatively loud, and the surrounding sounds cannot be heard clearly.

Fyi. The New Darth Vader From The Obi Wan Line Is The Same At The 40th Anniversary Vader But With A Smaller Cape.

The helmet works without any additional nuts and bolts other than the battery. Each piece is attached with a magnet except for the collar which requires an extra strap but is easy to put on. The parts are very secure once on, so the helmet won’t fly off, but it’s still easy to take off if needed. You can also remove part of the mouth filter, which makes the mask inhale less stuffy, but at the cost of your mouth being visible – slightly less bad.

In terms of comfort, the front of the mask is a little narrow, especially if you’re about Vader’s size. It’s pressed directly onto your face, so don’t wear glasses under it either. The eyeholes and neck parts are rubber lined for extra comfort, but can get sticky in the long run, so keep that in mind before wearing them for extended periods of time. You can adjust the strap portion of the mask to hold it on your face, as without it the mask rattles when you move it, but it’s not the most pleasant experience.

The eye holes are also large enough to allow the wearer a wide field of vision. Be careful with long hair, though – it’s not very hair-friendly, and quite a few were pulled off by the magnets. It’s a bit heavy, but that’s to be expected for a headset of this size. You just have to be straight and stiff; forcing yourself to stay on a crime spree is the perfect thing to do. The back of the helmet looks shorter than the Vader’s, but this gives your neck extra range of motion.

But if you’re buying it just for display, it’s still impressive. It has a stand that tilts the helmet vertically. Its size makes it a bit intimidating to be around, and it looks more legit and helmet-like than the original Episode IV version (because it looks like cheap plastic). The real faces of the most terrifying Sith monsters of the Empire.
