Update Samsung J7 Duo Price Review

Update Samsung J7 Duo Price Review – This summer Samsung introduced the latest smartphone J – Galaxy J7 (2017). Since this is one of Samsung’s most successful series, we took a closer look at the performance of the new smartphone. What can the J-Series do in 2017? We will show you the pros and cons after a few weeks of testing.

In theory, Samsung’s strategy is very simple: the manufacturer offers entry-level, mid-range and, of course, high-end smartphones. With the Galaxy J7 (2017) it quickly becomes clear that things are not so simple in practice. The smartphone is somewhere in the middle between entry-level and mid-range and even competes with the Galaxy A5 (2017).

Samsung sells the Galaxy J7 (2017) for €339, but you can sometimes buy it online for less than €300. The new smartphone is available in black, blue and gold colors.

Samsung Galaxy J7 Duo: From Price, Features And Specs To Much More

The Galaxy J7 (2017) is mainly available in two storage options: 16GB and 32GB. Unfortunately, only the small version is sold in Germany. However, in this country it is also expected to use two SIM cards, as well as memory expansion with a microSD card.

I’ll say one thing right away: the Galaxy J7 (2017) isn’t like current high-end Samsung smartphones, but it doesn’t look like an entry-level smartphone either. It has the typical manufacturer’s design that was common to the Galaxy S8 and Note 8. So, the oval “Home” button is located on the front between two capacitive “back” and “multitasking” buttons. The micro USB port is at the bottom, the jack port is at the top.

As for materials, now instead of plastic, as it was last year, metal is used. The quality is very good for a smartphone in this price range and the device feels good in the hand. However, this is still a phablet, so using it with one hand is quite difficult.

Volume keys and SIM card slide are located on the left bezel. A second SIM card and a microSD card can be inserted just below it. It’s not the hybrid slide we see in many smartphones today, so you can use all the cards at the same time. Unlike the Galaxy A5 (2017), the Galaxy J7 (2017) is not waterproof.

The fingerprint sensor built into the home button is a real pleasure: it’s easy to get to and it always recognizes your finger quickly. I found no flaws here. The location is particularly pleasing, the sensor on the back of the Galaxy S8+ or Note 8 is much more awkward.

In short, the Galaxy J7 (2017) is very similar to the Galaxy A5 (2017) but does not reach its level.

As usual, the Galaxy J7 (2017) uses a Super AMOLED display and leaves a very good impression. The Full HD resolution (1920×1080 pixels) is a welcome upgrade from last year’s HD display, and the 401 ppi pixel density is very good for a smartphone in this price range. The screen is still 5.5 inches and takes up a lot of space at the front: the ratio between the screen and the entire front panel is 73.1%.

In practice, the screen works very well and the highest brightness level is sufficient (511 cd/m²) to ensure good performance even in direct sunlight. Color rendition is very good.

Android Oreo was finally released by Google at the end of August. Therefore, it is not surprising that the new version of Android is still not installed on the Galaxy J7 (2017). Unfortunately, there is no current version of Android Nougat on the smartphone either, only 7.0.

The Samsung interface is now called Samsung Experience, only the launcher itself is called TouchWiz. However, with version 8.1, the former is unfortunately no longer updated, especially disappointing with the importance of the security patch, which was still updated in June 2017 when the test was published in October 2017.

As I wrote in my Galaxy A3 (2017) review, Samsung has been working very hard on its interface in recent years. Malware is now limited to your own apps, Google and Microsoft apps, and the so-called Upday widget, which cannot be removed, only disabled. The surface has become much smoother and, most importantly, more beautiful.

In this smartphone, Samsung again uses the game application, as in the smartphones of the A, S and Note series. In this case, this is probably secondary, since the Galaxy J7 (2017) is not quite suitable for games, but at least there is an opportunity to use it. Another feature I don’t want to leave unmentioned is the always-on display. In this way, you will always follow the most important information about this smartphone. Of course, you can also turn it off in the settings if you don’t like it.

The Galaxy J7 (2017) uses a mid-range Exynos 7870 processor that you might already know from the Galaxy A3 (2017). Thus, Samsung uses a mid-range processor in its best smartphone. On the side is the Mali P830 GPU, which honestly doesn’t provide great graphics in games if they are supposed to run smoothly. Most games should work perfectly, but those who appreciate them should probably use a different smartphone anyway.

The 3 GB of RAM installed here ensures smooth running and enjoyable multitasking. In daily use, the smartphone showed signs of weakness only twice. This happens especially when the smartphone has to do many tasks at the same time, but again the effect was quite small. The performance is sufficient for daily use. You can get a theoretical picture from the test results below. You’ll notice that the Galaxy J7 (2017) performs better in Geekbench and PCMark Work Performance than the Galaxy A3 (2017), which performs better in all other tests.

The Galaxy J7 (2017) speaker is located on the side, just above the power button. This position is also not important as you like to cover it with your finger when you watch a video for example. The sound quality is not perfect, but that is not surprising in this price range. The maximum volume is fine, but unfortunately the quality decreases as the volume is increased.

Samsung Galaxy J7 Duo Launches In India With Dual Cameras And Android Oreo

Samsung includes matching headphones with the smartphone, which are pretty standard fare. They do what they need to do, but not very well. But the same is true here: to be honest, you simply can’t expect more from such a smartphone.

Calls have never been a problem. I could always understand the person I was talking to and my voice was always transmitted without a problem.

The rear camera on the Galaxy J7 (2017) uses the Sony IMX258 sensor, which is also used in the OnePlus X, Wiko U Feel Prime, LG G6 and Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017). Its resolution is 13 megapixels and the aperture opens at f/1.7 It sounds promising at first, but expectations for such a smartphone should not be too high. Don’t expect the camera to compete with the Galaxy S8 or other flagship smartphones. The camera is not too bad in this price range.

In good lighting conditions and low contrast, the 1/3.06-inch sensor produces images of average quality, but immediately shows the limits of the camera’s capabilities and does not handle light well: images are repeatedly overexposed. With deteriorating light conditions, hissing occurs very quickly. There is no optical image stabilization. This can sometimes be annoying at 1/17th of a second as it results in a blurry image.

In terms of color reproduction, we can attest to the lack of contrast in the Galaxy J7 (2017). Colors always seem a bit pale. If you’re just looking for a smartphone that can be used to take photos for Instagram & Co., then the performance is more than enough. It even comes with a Pro mode where you can adjust ISO, white balance and exposure compensation.

The front camera is also 13 MP (f/1.9 aperture) and also has LED flash. In general, it gives good results, but there is definitely room for improvement, especially in the details of reproduction.

The Galaxy J7 (2017) can’t keep up with the A-series in terms of hardware, but has a say in terms of battery life. It measures a whopping 3,600 mAh, which should yield good numbers. This is also the case in practice. A day of normal use with messaging, watching a few YouTube videos, etc. is no problem for this smartphone. If you don’t use it that often, you might even get 2 days of power. However, the Galaxy A5 (2017) has a distinct advantage over the J7 (2017): the latter offers a fast charging feature.

Galaxy J7 (2017) is a good smartphone belonging to line A. The technical equipment is similar to Galaxy A3 (2017). The design is also similar to the A series, only it lacks water protection and USB type C connection. All this gives a slightly innovative design that is still pleasing, the performance is not great, but enough for daily use, and the buyer should not regret their purchases.
