Samsung hasn’t done anything good yet with its cheapest packages. The packaging is neat and seems to be made of biodegradable materials. Inside the box, Samsung has packed almost everything important for a new buyer. The contents of the Galaxy A50 box are as follows:
The Samsung Galaxy A50 continues the legacy of the A-series lineup. The phone exudes positive magic right out of the box. Thanks to its curved back and light shape, it feels good in the hand. The front is dominated by a stunning display, almost edge-to-edge with a U-shaped notch at the top and a slight chin at the bottom.
From the back, it resembles the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 (as Samsung calls it) with a 3D Glasstic panel. The rear panel is covered with glossy glass, but is actually made of polycarbonate. Samsung has smart tapered bezels to provide better ergonomics and easy one-handed operation.
The slim side rail is also made of polycarbonate with a power and volume rocker located on the right edge – both of which provide a pleasing tactile response. All ports and speakers are located on the bottom edge, while the SIM tray is located on the left edge.

As for build quality, we didn’t see any flex or hear any creaking when we put pressure on the back with our thumb. Overall, the Galaxy A50 is really premium and durable.
In fact, the real star here is the Galaxy A50’s display. The phone comes with a gorgeous looking Infinity-U SuperAMOLED display. It has full HD+ resolution and an aspect ratio of 19.5: 9. The screen looks bright, vibrant and well-calibrated. With deep blacks and excellent viewing angles. Whether indoors or out, everything looks great on the screen.
A fingerprint sensor is also embedded in the Galaxy A50’s display. Aside from the Galaxy S10 series, this is the only other Samsung phone with an in-display fingerprint sensor at the time of writing. It’s an optical sensor, not an ultrasonic sensor like in high-end Samsung phones.
Setting up the Galaxy A50 fingerprint scanner is a very easy process. It’s not as fast as the OnePlus 6T, but it’s still stable.

Samsung Galaxy A50 is powered by Exynos 9610 chipset.Samsung’s in-house developed chip is based on 10nm FinFET process and consists of eight cores divided into two quad-core clusters. One cluster has Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.3 GHz, while the other cluster has all Cortex-A53 processors clocked at 1.7 GHz. This chipset is coupled with Mali G72MP3 GPU to meet the graphics requirements. The Galaxy A50 review device we have here comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.
On the software side, the Galaxy A50 features Samsung’s new One UI based on Android Pie. The new interface is now designed for the taller phones we’ve replaced. If you’ve used a Samsung phone before, you’ll notice that the interface has been completely overhauled. It is easy to use with one hand, has colorful iconography and nice animations.
Samsung also added a “night mode” that looks good on the AMOLED panel. It comes with on-screen navigation buttons and full-screen gestures. Unlike the Galaxy S10 series, it does not have a Bixby button. However, if you use Bixby frequently, you can configure the power button as a Bixby key. The new interface is easy on the eyes. Samsung has also incorporated the “lock screen history” seen on the Galaxy M series phones.
In terms of performance, the Exynos 9610-powered Galaxy A50 is responsive and fast for everyday use. Our Galaxy A50 has 4GB of RAM and we experienced a small framerate drop when playing PUBG at high settings. The game runs well on “balanced” graphics at a normal frame rate.

Details aren’t as crisp as the Note 7 Pro, but metering is smooth, especially in challenging lighting.
Samsung has added an impressive wide-angle camera, which also allows you to fit more into the frame. An image clicked from a wide angle lens doesn’t really match the images captured from the original sensor and has a lot of distortion at the edges.
Unlike many phones in this budget, there is no dedicated night mode. The Galaxy A50’s camera can take good photos in low light, but it doesn’t hold up when viewed on a larger screen.

The design is great, the AMOLED display is quality, the One UI software is better than what most Android brands offer, and the battery backup is good. Day-to-day performance should be sufficient for the average user over long periods of time. Overall, the Galaxy A50’s hands-on experience is better than its specs.
The Galaxy A50 faces a tough challenge from Xiaomi’s Poco F1 ( review ) and Redmi K20, which offer raw power. Having said that, if you’re not a gamer, the Galaxy A50 should serve you better.
