The Samsung Galaxy A50s has started receiving a new firmware update with camera improvements and the January 2021 security patch in India. The phone is yet to be updated to Android 11 and is still running on Android 10. The latest update comes with build number A507FNXXU5CUB3 and is said to bring new camera features like Single Take and Night Hyperlapse to the Samsung Galaxy A50s. The My Filters feature has also been added to the phone with the update. These camera features were introduced with the Samsung Galaxy S20 series.

The Galaxy A50s gets camera performance improvements and security enhancements with the latest update. According to a report by Tizenhelp, it brings the Single Take feature to the phone, allowing users to take multiple photo and video formats at the same time by pressing the shutter button. Night Hyperlapse, as the name suggests, allows you to take hyperlapse videos in low light conditions. The My Filter feature allows you to create custom filters that can be saved for use on other images. You can create and save up to 99 custom filters. These features were first introduced with the Samsung Galaxy S20 series, and Samsung has carried them over to its mid-range smartphones.

According to the report, the update is 219 MB in size. If you have not received an update notification, you can go to Settings > Software update > Download and install to see if it has reached your Samsung Galaxy A50s. If not, wait a few days and it will automatically reach you.
Along with the camera improvements, the Samsung Galaxy A50s is also getting a January 2021 security patch. Until now, it was running the November 2020 security patch. The phone is still on Android 10 with One UI 2.5 on top, and so far there is no information on when the phone will be updated to Android 11. Samsung recently gave us the chance to review its Galaxy A50, and it might just be the perfect device if you’re looking for a great mid-range device that won’t break the bank. Starting at prices as low as $267 on Amazon with retail starting at $299, the Samsung Galaxy A50 is essentially a budget-friendly model.
Not only that, but Samsung’s goal with the recently relaunched A series was to deliver just that experience. He also built the gadget with the future in mind. This is because it is a smartphone that strives to offer forward-looking software. The company matched it with a device powerful enough to run it smoothly.
Due to this approach, there are many cases where this smartphone is indistinguishable from a flagship for most users. That’s certainly a good thing, but it’s also not without its caveats, as Samsung chose to use smaller devices to keep costs down. It will be worthwhile to explore exactly what they are.
But even at less than $300, no one should expect any major deal breakers here. This smartphone is ready to handle almost anyone’s needs.

When discussing the construction and hardware of the Samsung Galaxy A50, the first thing to note is that it is not technically burglar-rated. So it is not waterproof in any sense of the word. The device will withstand splashes, sweat and light moisture. But it’s a bad idea to expect this handset to withstand heavy rain or submersion.
These caveats aside, this smartphone feels extremely well made. Despite Samsung choosing to use a flat panel on the front, the feel in the hand is the same as its flagships. This, of course, thanks to a similar design on the rear panel. That back also feels like glass, though Samsung hasn’t explicitly made that claim, calling the design “Glasstic.” It is also noticeably more curved. So it feels thinner than the other premium material.
At the same time, all buttons and ports are practical without movement. Also included is the inclusion of a 3.5mm headphone jack, a feature that is becoming a rarity despite consumer backlash over its removal.
In terms of looks, Samsung chose to include a waterfall-style notch in what it calls an Infinity-U display. The headphone speaker sits in a grill-covered spot above the front-facing camera, and the ‘doctor’ area is kept slim. As mentioned earlier, the rear panel looks and feels like glass, highlighted by rounded edges with a metallic feel.

Partly thanks to this, and partly because Samsung uses cameras with slim profiles on the back with great color options, the Samsung Galaxy A50 looks as much as it feels compared to modern flagships.
Samsung offers this handset in black, white, blue or coral. Each is ‘inspired’ by ‘scattered light’ and this shows how it reflects light. My Samsung Galaxy A50 review unit is blue in color but barely visible under most light. There is only a blue tint which is usually visible around the edges or across the device under flat lighting.
Under most other circumstances, the device displays shades of the rainbow effect, not unlike those seen with flagship Galaxy S and Note devices. Many dark, almost black hues show through it on most of the device’s surface, changing to purple under natural sunlight. It is an almost intoxicating effect to watch with moving lights.
All this makes the phone look great, but also feel great to use. It is anything but cheap, although it does not live up to the expectations of a ship.

I mentioned above that the screen on the Samsung Galaxy A50 follows the company’s Infinity-U design, leaving most of the front open for interaction with the user interface. But this is also an AMOLED panel built by Samsung, following – again – in line with its flagship device. What that meant to me throughout my Galaxy A50 review was that blacks were blacks and colors were super vibrant.
Color tones are adjustable just like a high-end Samsung. Found in the settings under the Display sub-menu, there are a total of four options with advanced settings. Adaptive display mode is the default and most adjustable. The screen in that mode does what it says and adapts better to the content being displayed and the outdoor lighting conditions.
In the adaptive settings, unlike the remaining four modes, Samsung allows users to adjust the white balance from warm to cold. It also has all the sliders needed to adjust individually for red, green and blue. From there, Samsung also included AMOLED Cinema, AMOLED Photo and Basic display modes.
Of course, the company also includes a blue light filter and related options. This is on top of the Samsung OneUI Android 9 Pie Night mode, which can be activated automatically depending on the time of day or all the time. Finally, Samsung includes all the usual display settings in addition to always-on display settings, just like on their flagship devices.
Samsung Galaxy A50s Review: Perfect Midrange Phone?
Thanks to Samsung’s decision to use an FHD+ (1080 x 2340) resolution for the 6.4-inch panel, there’s not much in terms of pixelation either. All things considered, the screen served as a crucial part of why I never lost my flagship device during my use and review. In fact, I ended up using this device almost exclusively throughout the process.
All the nifty tweaks and gadgets aside, the Samsung display here is remarkably responsive. I have never noticed a lag on input. There was one caveat and issue that I found worth noting. This screen is not bright enough to be easily read in sunlight. In all other conditions it works almost flawlessly.
In terms of performance, the whole experience with Samsung’s Galaxy A50 can best be described as solid. This is compatible with Samsung’s Galaxy S and Note devices. Of course, this is not a flagship, as its Exynos 9610 SoC can attest. But Samsung has spent a lot of time making the experience as close as possible.
Throughout my review of the Galaxy A50, the optimization meant that while apps launched slightly slower than on my Galaxy Note 10+, they didn’t launch with enough delay to become annoying. After loading, the performance of the app was excellent. It remained so even when I opened apps in split screen view or on exit. Multitasking here is great.
