Update Samsung Galaxy A50 Lcd Price Review

Update Samsung Galaxy A50 Lcd Price Review – We started the year with an avalanche of affordable Galaxy M-series and A-series smartphones from Samsung as part of the company’s strategy to fight Xiaomi, Realme, and others on their terms. Samsung has addressed all the strategic price points between Rs. 8,000 and Rs. Thanks to the number of models and variants launched in a very short period of time, 20,000, sometimes with multiple options. It’s been a while since the many launches, and Samsung’s competitors have all refreshed their slates, so it was inevitable that we’d see a few updated models from the Korean giant.

The price of the new Samsung Galaxy A50s starts from Rs. 22,999, which is a slight increase in price compared to the Galaxy A50 (review). It joins the party right after the launch of the high-end Redmi K20 ( review ) and a few other flagship phones have made a dent in the segment as well. Which of these phones should you go for, in a budget of around Rs. 25,000? We review the Samsung Galaxy A50s to find out.

There isn’t much new in the look and feel of the Samsung Galaxy A50s. When we reviewed one of Samsung’s aggressive forays, the Galaxy M20 ( review ), we noted how generic it felt and how it broke from the company’s previous designs. As such, it’s easy to mistake the Galaxy A50s for any phone from today’s leading brands, no matter which angle you look at it.

Samsung Galaxy A50: Is It Still Worth Buying?

The front of this phone is mostly screen, with a small camera notch at the top (Samsung calls this design ‘Infinity-U’). The corners of the screen are rounded, with a fairly thick bezel while the sides and top borders are quite narrow. The edges are ever so slightly curved, and we note with interest that this is one of the few phones we’ve reviewed recently that didn’t come with a plastic screen protector already stuck on, which we don’t mind and appreciate.

On the back, we have a bit of personality that Samsung has decided to show – an off-center geometric pattern of crisscrossing lines with different colors in each segment. There are three options: Prism Crush Black, Prism Crush White and Prism Crush Violet – the black version is our review unit, but the back colors are various shades of grey.

Fortunately, this design isn’t as prone to picking up smudges and fingerprints as the Galaxy A50’s mirror-like finish, but it does need to be wiped down several times a day to keep it looking its best. There is still a very small prismatic effect under certain types of light, although it is more subtle than the psychedelic reflections we saw on this phone’s predecessor.

There’s a USB Type-C port on the bottom along with a 3.5mm audio socket and one speaker. The tray on the left has slots for two nano SIMs and a microSD card. The power and volume buttons are all on the right, and the top is empty.

Samsung Galaxy A50 Review: Faux Flagship

At 166g and 7.7mm thick, the Galaxy A50s is surprisingly easy to handle and live with. You may have to stretch a bit to reach the top of the 6.4-inch screen, but we had no complaints. The build quality is also very good, although the phone still feels plasticky and not very premium. There is no mention of what type of glass is used for the screen.

We didn’t see any scratches or scuffs on the frame or back panel during our review period, but we will be using this phone with a plastic case. Fortunately, one is included in the retail box. Samsung also throws in a 10W charger, a USB Type-C cable, a 3.5mm wired headset, a SIM eject tool and a quick start guide.

The first thing you notice when you turn this phone on is the brilliant and bright Super AMOLED screen. It’s 6.4 inches across, but if you measure with the rounded corners it’s trimmed down to about 6.2 inches. The resolution is Full-HD+ at 1080×2340. There is a notch above the front camera and an integrated fingerprint sensor in a convenient location.

Samsung has used its own Exynos 9611 octa-core processor, which appears to be a slight update of the Exynos 9610 featured in the Galaxy A50. You get four 1.74GHz ARM Cortex-A53 cores and four 2.3GHz Cortex-A73 cores along with Mali-G72 graphics. The chip has the same CPU, GPU and LTE capabilities as its predecessor, but supports higher camera resolutions.

That brings us to a major new feature of this phone, its 48-megapixel f/2 primary rear camera. It is accompanied by an 8-megapixel f/2.2 wide-angle camera and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. The front camera has also been upgraded with a 32-megapixel resolution and f/2 aperture.

There are two variants of this phone but both have 128GB of storage. The only difference is that either 4GB is available for Rs. 22, 999 or 6GB RAM for Rs. 24, 999. It is similar to what Samsung offered on the Galaxy A50, and we think it is completely unnecessary to have two similar options. Unless you run a lot of heavy apps and games, you’re unlikely to notice much of a difference.

The battery is huge at 4000mAh and 15W fast charging is possible even if you get a 10W charger in the box. Dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5, GPS, NFC and FM radio are all available.

Our unit came with version 1.5 of Samsung’s One UI software running on top of Android 9 with the August 2019 security update. A UI designed primarily for large-screen phones, and while it looks sleek and modern, we’re not fans of oversized icons and wide spaces everywhere. Thanks to the home screens and app drawer settings, you can adjust their size and density.

Samsung A50s Review: Stylish Midranger That Gets ‘almost’ Everything Right

There’s a lot of white space in the menus, and the large screen doesn’t seem to be used optimally, especially in the notification shade and the Settings app, which require a lot of scrolling. That means the ability to pull down menus and controls so that even the top lines are within tapping range. There are many features including secure folder, Samsung Pay, kids space, night mode, floating apps and dual messenger app cloning with independent contact lists.

A long press of the power button on the right side calls up the Bixby voice assistant. To shut down your phone, there’s a small power button on the screen in the quick toggle area that you reveal by swiping down from the top of the screen. To the left of the first home screen is the Bixby home screen, which has some useful panels like sports scores and reminders, but also a lot of promotional content.

Bixby routines allow you to chain multiple commands with simple “if…then” conditions. For example, you can tell the Galaxy A50s to change its Wi-Fi, Bluetooth status, sound profile, display adjustments, lock screen shortcuts, accessibility settings, and perform specific actions such as opening a website or sending an SMS. All of these things are activated immediately when you leave or enter a location, connect an accessory, open a specific app, receive a phone call, and/or pair with a Bluetooth device specific.

The Super AMOLED panel allows for an ambient display, although the phone is set by default to require a single tap when the phone is at hand to view the time and status icons. You can set it to appear all the time or only at certain times.

You also have a lot of control over the content that appears on the lock screen, as well as a selection of animated wallpapers or image collections that are cycled. Lock screen stories are snippets of content, some of which are ads, that appear every time you wake your phone from sleep. This can be disabled during the initial Android setup process.

Samsung decided to implement its edge panels feature, which we previously only saw in high-end phones with curved glass sides. This slim tab can be placed on either side of the screen, and you slide in to bring up one or more vertical strips containing shortcuts to contacts, apps, small tools, or content streams. More Edge panels can be downloaded through Samsung’s Galaxy Store.

Only a few apps are preloaded: Facebook, Netflix, OneDrive, Samsung’s Galaxy Store, and Game Launcher. When we set up this phone, we were told that apps would “sleep” if they weren’t used for three days or more, meaning they wouldn’t refresh content and you might not receive some notifications. It can be disabled in the battery settings, but it’s still worth noting that the default setting is unusual and can cause some unexpected notification delays.

We were curious to see what Samsung changed in the Galaxy A50s compared to the Galaxy A50.
