Samsung hasn’t done anything fancy with the packaging of its latest affordable offering. The packaging appears to be made of clean, biodegradable materials. Inside the box, Samsung packs almost everything a new buyer needs. The contents of the Galaxy A50 box are as follows.
The Samsung Galaxy A50 carries forward the legacy of the A series. The phone casts a positive spell as soon as you take it out of the box. Due to its curved back and lightweight structure, It provides a good grip feel. The fascia dominates a prominent, nearly edge-to-edge surface with a U-shaped notch at the top and a slight chin at the base.
From the back, it reminds me of the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 with its 3D Glasstic (called Samsung) back panel. The back panel is made of glossy glass, but it’s actually made of polycarbonate. Samsung has cleverly slapped the edges for good ergonomics and ease of one-handed use.
The slim side rail is made of polycarbonate, and the right edge houses the power and volume rocker – both of which provide a satisfying touch response. All ports and speakers are located on the bottom edge, while the SIM tray goes into a slot on the left edge.

Truth be told, the real star here is the Galaxy A50’s display. The phone has an Infinity-U SuperAMOLED display and it looks amazing. It has a Full HD+ resolution and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The Galaxy A50 also has an in-display fingerprint sensor. In addition to the Galaxy S10 series, This is the only other Samsung phone with an in-display fingerprint sensor at the time of this writing. It’s an optical sensor, not an ultrasonic one like high-end Samsung phones.
Setting up the Galaxy A50 fingerprint scanner is a very easy process. It’s not as fast as you can get on the OnePlus 6T, but it’s still quite flexible.

Samsung Galaxy A50 is powered by Exynos 9610 chipset. Samsung’s in-house developed chip is based on the 10nm FinFET process, with the octa-cores split into two quad-core clusters. One cluster has Cortex-A73 cores at 2.3 GHz, while the other cluster has all Cortex-A53 CPUs at 1.7 GHz. Chipset is paired with Mali G72MP3 GPU to fulfill your graphics needs. On the software front, The Galaxy A50 comes with Samsung’s new One UI based on Android Pie. The new interface is designed for the tall phones we are now transitioning to. Samsung has also added a “night mode” to the AMOLED panel, which looks absolutely gorgeous. It has both an on-screen navigation button and full-screen gestures. Samsung has also incorporated the ‘lock screen stories’ seen on the Galaxy M series phones.
In terms of performance, the Exynos 9610-powered Galaxy A50 is consistent and fast in daily use. Our Galaxy A50 unit has 4GB of RAM and we experienced slight frame drops while playing PUBG on high settings. The game ran well on “balanced” graphics with moderate frame rates.

For selfie lovers, there is a 25MP camera (f/2.0 aperture) inside the U-shaped notch.

How is the Galaxy A50 camera performance? It can provide clear images in daylight. As with most Samsung cameras, The Galaxy A50 tends to keep exposure on the high side for good photos without ruining shadows.
The details aren’t as clear as the Note 7 Pro, but the metering is more consistent, especially in difficult lighting.
Samsung has included a fun wide-angle camera that can fit a lot into a single frame. Images clicked through the wide-angle lens don’t quite match the shots taken by the main sensor, with distortion around the edges.
Unlike most phones in this budget, It doesn’t have a dedicated night mode. The Galaxy A50 camera can take good photos in low light, but it doesn’t hold up well when viewed on a larger screen.

On the selfie front, The Galaxy A50’s 25MP front-facing camera is capable of capturing self-portraits with good detail in decent lighting. It has Live Focus option for bokeh effect which can be adjusted later.
The Galaxy A50 looks like a mid-range offering. The phone seems to tick a lot of the right boxes. Good design; The AMOLED display is of good quality; One UI software is better than what most other Android brands offer; Battery backup is good. Day-to-day performance should be good for average users over longer periods of time. In general, The Galaxy A50 handset experience is much better than the spec sheet suggests.
The Galaxy A50 will face a tough challenge from Xiaomi’s Poco F1 (review) and Redmi K20. If you’re not a gamer, the Galaxy A50 should serve you better.
