Update Samsung A12s Colors Review – Now, I know we mostly feature more expensive devices here, but this time we got our hands on one of the cheapest, if not the cheapest, new options from Samsung, the Galaxy A12.
Design with Blue Flavor When we say cheap, we really mean cheap. This phone starts at $180 and for the price, it’s actually well built.

It’s an all-plastic build, but we think the blue color and textured back make it a lot of fun to hold in your hand. And, one or two interesting things here. We have dual sim support with a dedicated Micro SD card slot and a headphone jack.

However, just to keep your expectations in check, the back feels a bit hollow and flexes inward when we press on it.
Otherwise, just to be safe, get a side-mounted fingerprint scanner that does a great job. You might read a bug or two, but we find it relatively fast and reliable.
And last but not least, we have a bottom speaker that’s a bit quiet, but also not too distorted when listened to at full volume.
Good enough screen The screen isn’t bright enough for easy outdoor use, but it should do the trick if you plan to glance at a quick message or two while walking the dog. At least it dims enough so you don’t accidentally blind yourself during the night.
Is It Worth Buying Samsung Galaxy A12?
The panel isn’t AMOLED, so don’t expect amazing colors, but the IPS technology it’s equipped with is at least burn-resistant, doesn’t ghost, and still produces good enough colors for the average person. Another thing to note is that you don’t get a very high refresh rate here and your resolution is 720 x 1600 pixels, but that’s to be expected in this price range.
The CIE 1931 xy color scale diagram represents the set of colors (space) that a screen can reproduce, with the sRGB color space (the bold triangle) used as a reference. The chart also provides a visual representation of the screen’s color accuracy. The small squares on the edges of the triangle are the reference points for the different colors, while the small dots are the actual measurements. Ideally, each point should be placed in its corresponding square. The “x: CIE31” and “y: CIE31” values in the table below the table indicate the position of each measurement in the table. “Y” shows the brightness (in nits) of each measured color, while “Target Y” is the desired brightness level for that color. Finally, ‘ΔE 2000′ is the Delta E value of the measured color. Delta E values less than 2 are ideal. These measurements are made using Portrait Displays’ CalMAN calibration software.
The color accuracy chart gives an idea of how close the screen’s measured colors are to their reference values. The first row contains the measured (actual) colors, while the second row contains the reference (target) colors. The closer the actual colors are to the target colors, the better. Samsung A12 Review: A Solid Budget Phone For The Casual User
Camera Only works in terms of camera, we are quite satisfied. With enough sunlight, we were able to take some really nice photos with decent sharpness.
We’re not too excited about these images, but they’re pretty spot on for an average use case. We have no complaints here. And the HDR performance was very good. As the shadows were well exposed even in sunny conditions, and the sky was very underexposed.
You also have a secondary wide-angle camera here and it’s not very sharp, but it still produces some interesting photos of your holiday.
Zooming in isn’t something we recommend you do as there’s no dedicated lens for that, but some of the photos come out quite well and the colors are quite nice, by the way.

The subject comes out quite cropped in most cases and the selfie camera is also quite nice if you give it enough light.
But a complaint of ours. Night mode would have been a nice feature to include here because it is quite useful for some people and the lack of it limits us in the photos we can take at night.
For example, no face is visible here, so our partner had to go somewhere with more light.
And we also have a macro camera here, which we think is mostly a gimmick. It produces good colors and shoots from close range, but it’s really not that sharp and we’d rather the budget went elsewhere.

The videos aren’t too bad though. You can shoot up to 1080p at 30 frames per second. It’s not really amazing or anything, but the quality is at least perfect for some family videos or something during the holidays. But another thing we should mention is that the microphone on this device had a bit of a hard time recording voices when there is background noise, so keep that in mind if you plan to shoot a video in a busy place or near a busy street. And don’t expect any kind of video stabilization here, which could be the biggest problem if you’re actually planning to shoot while walking.
Well, let’s put it this way, it’s not a race winner, but it’s not frustratingly slow or choppy either.
The Galaxy A12 comes equipped with an affordable Helio P35 SoC. It’s not really meant for gaming or anything like that, so it struggled when we tried some Minecraft on it, but watching videos and browsing the web are some of the things it does easily. We mostly surfed Reddit and watched a bit of YouTube and managed to keep up, with some stuttering.
We noticed it wasn’t too hot while playing minecraft so that’s cool. no pun intended.

You’ll notice that apps take a while to open, but once they do, they mostly work fine. Such a weak processor also has the surprising advantage of consuming very little power.
Battery What size is too big? The battery capacity you have here is around 5000 mAh. And it’s just amazing. You can expect more than two days of use if you don’t use the phone too much. But again, like any other device on the market, if you use it all the time, you’ll probably need to charge it on the same day. You get a fast charger in the box for free, but keep in mind that “fast” here is only 15 watts, and it still takes a few hours to fully charge the battery.
You get an interesting textured blue design, a camera good enough for those family vacations, decent performance for anything but gaming, and a battery so big the engineers probably had to give the phone extra room in the back.
But we’re not sure if it’s the perfect device at this price. It does sacrifice performance. For example, for the same price, you can get the Oneplus Nord N100 and it comes with a more powerful processor and a decent performing camera.

Or if you’re looking for something even more powerful, the Moto G Power has a Snapdragon 662 that will wipe the floor with the A12 for just $20 more.
So it depends a bit more on preference and what exactly you need in a device. We’re generally impressed with what cheap phones can do these days, but what about you?

Weeks ahead of the possible release of the Android 13-based One UI 5.0 update for the Galaxy S22 series, Samsung has released the Android 12-based One UI Core 4.1 update for the Galaxy A12. The update is currently rolling out in Russia, but we expect it to roll out in other countries over the next few days.
The Android 12 update for the Galaxy A12 comes with firmware version A125FXXU2CVH1. Unfortunately, the update includes the July 2022 security patch and not the latest August 2022. The update brings a lot of new features and UI design improvements.
