Erin Condren’s Monthly Planner can definitely be used as your main planner, but it really shines when you use it as a project planner.

I’m also happy that it comes in the Flora design, which suits me perfectly. A few weeks ago, I wrote about almost all of my work systems breaking down in 2020. Working from home full time has exposed the ugly dark side of work. An analogue in a bottleneck: paper, there is a lot of it and not good. Rather, I was struck by what I call “junk paper” like copies of notes, emails, letters, etc. that I used to print out to read, mark up, and never use again.
My work circumstances also led to many pointless layoffs. In short, I realized that holding a traditional paper planner is probably too little for me. I have too many appointments, tasks, and reminders to deal with on a daily basis for this to be practical. Since so much comes by email, it’s more efficient for me to manage these types of tasks electronically rather than transcribing records back and forth between my phone and my scheduler.
However, I don’t want to completely abandon planning on paper. The importance of writing down key tasks and goals cannot be underestimated, but I don’t need to do this every day or even every week. Instead, I rely on this technique most often when I’m overwhelmed and need to prioritize. The dateless scheduler gives me the flexibility I need and I don’t have to worry about “wasting” empty days and weeks in the dated scheduler. With this use, the undated planner can last even more than a year.
Luckily, legacy planners have become more popular in recent years and you now have multiple options to find what suits your needs. Today I will look at several options.

A month later, I went to the Archer & Olive website and ordered several laptops during their Black Friday sale. I’m in one of them now.
I wanted to explain to you some of the reasons why I liked the bullet binder and why I went back to the traditional book format. Maybe this is the system that works for you.
This Customizable Planner Is Awesome!
The first thing I liked about the binding magazine was its flexibility. I could take out pages, move them around. I can add or remove things as needed. If I decided that I didn’t like the layout of the page, as I often do due to my indecision, I could just remove it. If I had a long shopping list, I might add another page.
I also liked that I could throw anything in there. I was limited to only my three-hole shot. I added cookie recipes, envelopes and all that. It was very funny.
Having a bound bullet magazine is also much cheaper. At least it was for me. My Russell+Hazel installation cost $17 for the binding and $7 for the paper bag. Archer & Olive laptops average around $30. This way you will save quite a lot of money.
Of course, always remember that you could just as well write in a dollar store notebook and a cheap pen. That’s how I started with a notebook with a marble composition.

Okay, if it’s cheaper, more efficient, and more flexible, why didn’t I stop there? To be honest, part of my brain is asking why I’m not switching back now. And I could. Not that I got rid of my binder or anything like that.
First, I’ve already converted it to note-taking for my nonfiction novel. But the real reasons are below.
The first reason is purely aesthetic. I couldn’t find a quality paper that I liked to use that was suitable for binding.
It was not a dot grid. It wasn’t thick enough to hold the color. I was ready to rip out the pages if I wasn’t careful.

It was also a pain-finding paper that fit the bill. As I soon discovered, three-ring rods almost always need to be purchased from the same company that you purchased your binder from. Unless you have a traditional school size. And it’s not fun to ride.
However, the main reason I returned to the more traditional Bullet Journal is this. The folder didn’t look like a memory.
I love journaling because it allows me to manage my many projects and commitments. But there is also a big memory saving component. I can look back at my bullet journal and see when I was on vacation, what I worked on, what I enjoyed. Every month I keep a page full of memories, big and small. I write and draw through it all. I write small notes about the past day. I keep movie clips, tickets, little memorabilia on the pages. Every Bullet Journal is half organization, half time capsule.
For some reason, a box full of sheets of paper didn’t evoke as much nostalgia as a row of beautiful hardback books.

In conclusion, converting a binder to a diary might be right for you. Or maybe you, like me, stick to the traditional method. This is why the Bullet Journal works so well for so many people. How your bullet journal will look is entirely up to you.
