Between each strategic price point, Samsung chose $5,000. 8000 and Rs. 20,000 in a very short span of time, with so many models and variants available, there are sometimes multiple options. It’s been a while since this launch, and Samsung’s competitors have all updated their panels, so it’s inevitable to see some updated models from the Korean company.
The brand new Samsung Galaxy A50s is priced at $5,000. 22,999, which is slightly more expensive compared to the Galaxy A50. It joined the party shortly after the launch of the high-end Redmi K20 ( review ), which has seen price cuts on several flagship phones, which are also featured in this segment. Update Refurbished Samsung Galaxy A50 Review
The Samsung Galaxy A50s doesn’t have much in terms of look and feel. When we reviewed Samsung’s first aggressive push, the Galaxy M20 ( review ), we commented on how generous it felt and how it broke from the company’s previous designs. Likewise, the Galaxy A50s could easily be mistaken for a flagship phone from any of today’s major brands.

The front of the phone is an all-screen display with a small camera on top (a project Samsung calls “Infinity-U”). The screen has rounded corners, a thick bezel, and relatively narrow bezels on the sides and top. The edges are ever-so-slightly curved, and we note with interest that this is one of the few phones we’ve reviewed of late without a plastic screen protector installed, and we don’t care. and cherish.
On the back, we have the personality that Samsung decided to convey – an off-center geometric pattern of intersecting lines with different colors in each section. There are three options: Prism Crush Black, Prism Crush White and Prism Crush Violet – our review unit is the black version, but the colors on the back are various shades of grey.
Thankfully, the design isn’t as prone to smudges and fingerprints as the Galaxy A50’s glass-like finish, but it still needs a few swipes a day to keep it looking its best. Although it’s more subtle than the optical reflections we’ve seen in previous phones, there’s still a bit of a prison effect under certain lights.
The bottom has a USB Type-C port, a 3.5mm audio jack and a single speaker. The tray on the left holds two nano SIM cards and a microSD card. The power and volume buttons are all on the right side, and the top is empty.
Samsung Galaxy A50 Review: Finally, A Reasonable Samsung Mid Ranger
At 166g and 7.7mm thick, the Galaxy A50s is surprisingly easy to handle and live with. You may have to stretch a bit to reach the top of the 6.4-inch screen, but otherwise we have no complaints. Build quality is also good, although the phone still feels like plastic, but not as much. The type of glass used for the screen is not mentioned.
We didn’t see any scratches or scuffs on the frame or back panel during our review, but we did use the phone with the plastic case. Luckily, one is included in the retail box. Samsung also includes a 10W charger, a USB Type-C cable, a 3.5mm wired headphone jack, a SIM eject tool, and a quick start guide.
The first thing you notice when you open this phone is the crisp, bright Super AMOLED display. It’s 6.4 inches long, but if you measure using the rounded corners, it shortens to about 6.2 inches. The resolution is Full-HD+ at 1080×2340. There is a bar above the front camera and the integrated fingerprint sensor is conveniently placed.
Samsung uses its own octa-core Exynos 9611 processor, which seems to be a slight upgrade over the Exynos 9610 that was released in the Galaxy A50. You get four 1.74GHz ARM Cortex-A53 cores and four 2.3GHz Cortex-A73 cores and Mali-G72 graphics. The chip has the same CPU, GPU and LTE capabilities as before, but supports higher camera resolutions.

A major new feature of the handset is its 48-megapixel f/2 primary rear camera. It is paired with an 8-megapixel f/2.2 wide-angle camera and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. The front camera has a 32-megapixel resolution and an improved f/2 aperture.
There are two variants of this phone, but both have 128GB capacity. The only difference is that you get 4GB for 4GB. 22,999 or 6GB of RAM. 24, 999. It’s similar to what Samsung is offering with the Galaxy A50, and we don’t think it’s necessary to have two similar options. Unless you run a lot of heavy apps and games, you probably won’t notice much of a difference.
The battery is pretty big at 4000mAh, and you can charge 15W fast even if you charge 10W in the box. There is dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5, GPS, NFC and FM radio.
Our unit comes with Samsung’s One UI software version 1.5 and runs Android 9 with the August 2019 security update. The UI is primarily designed for large-screen phones, and while it looks sleek and modern, we don’t like the oversized icons and wide spaces everywhere. Fortunately, you can adjust the size and density of the home screen and app drawer through their settings.
Samsung Galaxy A50 Is A Tough Plastic Phone, Survives The Jerryrigeverything Bend Test
There’s a lot of space in the menus, and the large screen feels underutilized, especially in the notification shade and Settings app, which require a lot of scrolling. The ability to drag menus and controls is very welcome. Features include Secure Folder, Samsung Pay, Kids Space, Night Mode, Floating Apps, and Dual Notification App Clone.
A long press on the power button on the right will invoke the Bixby voice assistant. The Quick Toggles area has a small power button on the screen that you swipe from the top of the screen to turn off your phone. To the left of the first home screen is the Bixby home screen, which has some useful panels like game numbers and reminders, but also a lot of ad content.
Bixby rules can combine multiple commands with simple “if” conditions. For example, you can ask the Galaxy A50s to change Wi-Fi and Bluetooth status, sound profile, display customizations, screen shortcuts and access settings, and perform specific actions such as opening a website or sending a text message. All of these are triggered at the same time when you leave or enter a location, connect an accessory, open an app, receive a phone call, and/or connect to a Bluetooth device.
The Super AMOLED panel allows for ambient displays, though by default you only need to tap the phone once to see the time and status icons. It can be viewed all the time or only at certain time intervals.
Samsung Galaxy A50 Review: Faux Flagship
You can control what content appears on the lock screen, whether it’s animated wallpapers or rotating images. Lock screen stories are snippets of content, some ads, that wake you up every time your phone goes to sleep. This can be disabled during the initial Android setup.
Samsung has also decided to implement the Edge Panels feature, which we previously only saw on high-end phones with curved sides. These thin-looking tabs can be placed on either side of the screen and slide in to reveal one or more vertical strips with shortcuts to contacts or apps or widgets or content. Additional Edge tablets can be downloaded from the Samsung Galaxy Store.
There are only a few pre-installed apps: Facebook, Netflix, OneDrive, and Samsung’s Galaxy Store and Game Drive. When we set up this phone, we specified that apps would “sleep” if they weren’t used for three days or more, meaning they wouldn’t update content and might not receive certain notifications. It can be disabled in the battery settings, but it’s worth noting that the default setting is abnormal and can cause unexpected notification delays.
We’re curious to see what’s changed compared to the Samsung Galaxy A50s and Galaxy A50.
