To be sure, I haven’t reviewed the TCL 10 Pro, so I haven’t used the handset extensively, but I’m excited because this phone shows that there’s still room for new entrants in the mobile market.
Isn’t that quote from our review pretty awful? But that doesn’t mean we want TCL to give up. In fact, I hope TCL sees that criticism (and it seems that most of our competing tech publications, as well as us, agree with our phone review) and follows up.
It’s an exciting move for TCL to enter the phone game under its own brand. Previously, the company produced handsets through its Alcatel and BlackBerry sub-brands, both catering to very different niches than what TCL was trying to target with the 10 Pro.
The Blackberry handsets under the TCL umbrella didn’t succeed, but they continued to deliver a business-focused experience you couldn’t get anywhere else. Alcatel, on the other hand, has consistently produced some of the cheapest phones on the market.

As the TCL brand becomes more and more recognizable in the TV market, it makes sense for the company to apply its name and associated methodology to smartphones as well.
The methodology involves providing a high-quality product, but with a few necessary cuts to ensure it comes at a reasonable price, which we tried with the TCL 10 Pro.
The TCL 10 Pro doesn’t try to compete with high-end handsets at a lower price. This isn’t a phone you’re considering replacing the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra or iPhone 11 Pro Max, but it could be an alternative like the Samsung Galaxy A90 5G or OnePlus 8.
And while the TCL 10 Pro isn’t entirely successful, the experience of making the phones behind it makes it a real contender for the best mid-range phones money can buy with anything from TCL.

With a 6 and 7-inch display, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus 5G really scores points. It has a resolution of up to 3200 x 1440 pixels (WQHD+) and offers a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. However, you cannot combine FHD+ (2400 x 1080) and 120Hz or 60Hz and highest resolution. Combining the best of both worlds would have been incredibly good, but the battery would have suffered a lot more than it does now. But more on that later.
The color rendition of the Samsung display panel convinced me once again. Bright colors, good contrast thanks to AMOLED, adjustable white balance. I also really liked the invisible notch like “camera peephole” at the top of the display. The flagship gets full marks for the display, but for that we’d prefer a compromise between 90Hz and WQHD+.
There’s also an always-on display that unobtrusively displays the time and notifications indicated by app icons. It’s good, but it consumes more battery.
Many Samsung users are probably aware of the hot word on their device. Same here. Problem – Oh, Samsung! Inside is an Exynos 990 octa-core processor. With 8GB or 12GB of RAM (depending on the variant) it gets quite warm. So, a simple restart can warm up your Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus 5G. Things like installing app updates or system updates also affect heat.

Otherwise, 5GProcessor provides very good performance, great multitasking and fast speed of 5G network in daily life. A test report on Drei’s 5G network in Linz also had a Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus. Samsung’s problems, mostly caused by Exynos, have been around for a long time and couldn’t figure it out. In the case of our test report on the S20 Plus with Qualcomm Prozessor, these criticisms do not appear.
Smartphones didn’t last all day, nor do we have to rely on more than 3-4 hours of screen-on-time (SOT). You can get a bit more by disabling 120Hz and lowering the resolution. However, this value – I can tell you directly – does not do justice to a flagship for this price.

However, there is hope for those who are content with power outlets. The S20 Plus fully charges in just one hour. Included in the delivery range is a 25W fast charger, which Samsung refers to as “ultra-fast charging.” As you can imagine, this only works fastest with the original charger. No matter which charger you use, you get 15 watts of wireless charging.
With “Wireless PowerShare,” Maine can wirelessly charge other devices on the back while wearing baggy pants. According to the manufacturer, the 4.500mAh battery should last up to 17 hours on WLAN.
