The HP Omen 25L, a modular gaming PC with an Nvidia RTX 3070 and AMD Ryzen 5 processor, shines behind its thin glass panel, but it has some rough edges. While this is fast at its best, unfortunately all that glitters is not gold. The beefy motherboard and aggressive thermal spin keep its ultra-powerful hardware from delivering the kind of optimal performance we’ve come to expect.

The HP Omen 25L CPU cooler is beautiful, but the amount of air it pushes barely tickles your fancy.
The HP Omen 25L is a mid-sized modular tower gaming PC, which means it offers a lot of support for aftermarket hardware and accessories. We tested what we thought was the best value-for-money configuration you can buy directly from HP, although the Omen 25L can be configured with an Intel processor and other graphics cards from the Nvidia GeForce family.
Like all computers on the market, it comes fully assembled, but the inside can be accessed and changed by removing the glass side panel.

A bronze rating means it’s more than eighty percent energy efficient, which keeps your power consumption from going too high and helps your power supply and computer components last longer (since pins can shorten their life).

The RGB lighting on the front logo, the CPU fan and the top of the case are fully customizable.
While the Omen 25L doesn’t have the most unique aesthetic, it’s hard to deny that it’s beautiful. The front diamond lights up with an RGB header that’s fully customizable in HP’s Omen Gaming Center software, although it also looks beautiful in the default frosty white. The CPU cooler and case top also feature customizable RGB lighting to make your Omen truly yours.
The dark gunmetal finish on the front panel combined with the glass side panel gives the Omen a “gamer” edge that appeals to RGB fans, but is loud enough to please those who prefer a quieter aesthetic. Looking through the glass panel, the inside of the computer looks clean, thanks to the tucked-away cables and all-black components.
The custom RTX 3070 cover is thin and light, allowing the GPU to blend into the background of the case.
How To Choose The Best Gaming Pc For You
With an Nvidia RTX 3070 GPU and an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, it’s no surprise that the HP Omen 25L is a capable gaming machine. You shouldn’t have much trouble running 1080p games at very high frame rates, and most 4K games will run at 60fps or more. A terribly demanding game
Runs at around 45fps in 4K with ray tracing enabled (if you’re new to ray tracing, it’s a powerful way to create shadows and reflections that make games look more realistic than ever).
For VR with more realistic graphics settings, you probably won’t have a problem with the RTX 3070.
For more diverse tasks, the Omen Ryzen 5 processor is excellent. Streaming, movie editing and multitasking are smooth and painless. In Cinebench R23, the Omen 25L scored a respectable 9150, which is close to the high-end Intel Core i7 10700 CPU. Unless you’re a dedicated streamer or frequent 3D animator, you probably won’t be able to maximize Ryzen 5’s capabilities.

The only fans included with the computer are on the CPU cooler and on the back. There is a vent where the power cables fit, albeit a small one. The top vent has a cover for SATA drives, not fans. To make the fan accessories, you will need to modify the case in some way.
Unfortunately, there are many problems with the HP Omen 25L, and it all starts with its poor cooling performance. While the computer is clearly capable of high-quality 4K gaming, many of the HP Omen 25L’s features hinder the potential of the powerful hardware, forcing the Ryzen 5 and RTX 3070 to underperform by 5% or more than expected.
, the CPU temperature exceeds 85 degrees Celsius and the GPU peaks at 93 degrees Celsius – far too hot for safe performance, let alone optimal performance. Below 95 degrees Celsius, both the CPU and GPU can suffer from thermal damage, and staying close to 95 degrees will wear out their lifespan much faster.
The main problem is that the cooling is not enough for the powerful CPU and GPU, despite the fact that the case is quite large. Let’s compare the thermal performance of the 25-liter Omen 25L with my Small Form Factor (SFF) PC housed in a 7-liter DAN A4 case. Generally, more liters means more air to cool the computer, so you should expect SFF computers to run hotter than their larger counterparts. At idle, the Omen DAN and HP components are around 40 degrees. When running OCCT, the benchmark software, the HP Omen takes about 30 seconds to raise its CPU to 95 degrees.

Meanwhile, DAN’s water-cooled CPU didn’t exceed 72 degrees when it ran the same benchmarks for a full minute. Mind you, 72 degrees is still hot and has an uneven water cooling advantage, but the HP Omen’s 25-liter case is more than big enough to house an equally efficient cooling system that keeps temperatures below 75 degrees. (and ideally below 70 degrees).
The 7-liter DAN A4’s body has airflow openings that cover four of its six surfaces. Meanwhile, the HP Omen PC 25 Liter has three fans.
So if the HP Omen 25L is so “big”, why does it run so hot? Size isn’t everything: The standard HP Omen cooler and case fans push too little air to cool everything inside the computer. Due to the case structure, the GPU and PSU don’t get enough airflow, and the case as a whole has negative airflow (meaning it expels hot air without drawing in cold air). There are very few vents around the case – just one at the top, one near the PSU (but not below!) and one where the rear fan is located. The two front grills are only decorative.
Also, there aren’t many places to improve the Omen’s cooldown yourself. The only cooling unit is the one taken up by the rear case fans, so adding additional fans will require a DIY kit with zippers. It’s not normal. An average computer case has at least three fan units, and a good one will have more. If the Omen had mounts for water cooling — a great option for small air-restricted cases — it would make the airflow situation less severe, but there are no mounts.
