One of the smart lamps supported by HomeKit is a night lamp that comes in two models, Staria Desk Lamp or Staria Desk Lamp Pro. With the only difference that the Pro version has a smartphone charging pad. So keep reading this detailed Yeelight Staria Bedside Lamp Pro review to find out if this is the right HomeKit bedside lamp for you.

The lamp comes in a white matte plastic finish, except for the charging pad, which is a gray non-slip material. It is divided into two parts with a lampshade and a stand connected by a single metal rod.

The base of the Staria Nightstand Pro has a flush button that turns the light on and off. Along with controlling several lighting options. It also has a small discreet LED light that indicates successful charging via the charging pad or not. When we talk about the wireless charging pad, it can charge up to 10W for a compatible smartphone. The back of the base is a charging port that provides power. Finally, the bottom of the base has anti-slip rubber pads to keep it in place.
It switches to a lampshade that has two different lighting parts. The main part is the bottom light and the light ring at the top of the screen. Although it has 2 light sources, both draw light from an array of LEDs. These LEDs have 350 lm and a color temperature range between 2700 and 6500 k. Finally, the lampshade can be moved at a horizontal angle with the option 0º–30º.
For power, the Staria lamp uses a 12 V/1.5 A type A power supply with a cylindrical connector at the end of the power cable. While the plug that came with mine was not UK spec. I had a UK adapter from another smart home product and used that.
Although you can use the Staria night light pro through the Home app and leave it at that. It’s worth adding to the Yeelight app not only for the firmware update, but because the app has some neat features you might want to use.

So get started, download Yeelight from the App Store and create an account. Then you need to go to the device tab and click the + icon. This will then take you through the setup process.
Once the Staria light is set up in the Yeelight app, you need to set it up in HomeKit. You can do this by opening the Home app or directly in the Yeelight app via the settings menu.
I added it via the add home option in the Yeelight app, which displays the familiar HomeKit scan option. Then follow the reminder for the HomeKit configuration process, such as adding a room and naming the device.
The lamp can warm to a cool white color between 2700 and 6500. The light from the lower part has a narrow spread. While the light from the upper ring is more decorative.

Controlling the flashlight using the power button allows you to turn the flashlight on or off. When you press the button, the light will turn on to the last brightness and color temperature before I turned it off. If you want to adjust the color temperature, long press the button.
Pressing the button twice puts it into timer mode. The light will then turn off after a certain period of time, which is 10 minutes.
If you want to step things up a bit, jump into the Yeelight app. Although simplified, the Yeelight still has some nice features. Yeelight has divided the layout into two parts, the top part has different light effect options and the tabs at the bottom give more control over the light.
The next tab, called solar mode, allows you to adjust the color temperature using the dial. This mode allows you to play with the color temperature range to get the light selection you want.

The last category is moon mode and this allows for a very low night light setting for the Staria lamp. While the lamp can be lowered to a relatively low brightness threshold, this mode raises it to a higher level. Although this mode of operation may be useful to some as a standing night light. I didn’t find the light level useful.
Along the bottom is a button to turn the light on and off and a button to add the current status to favorites. The last tab gives you the ability to set the color temperature range from 2700k to 6500k in several intervals. You also get options to set times and schedules, program a night mode, and a default state when it’s on.
On the HomeKit side, Apple treats the Staria lamp pro like any other light. But there are no modes like light effects or the “Moon” option found in the Yeelight app.
So at a basic level you can tap a tile and turn the light on and off. You can also long press the tile and use the slider to adjust the brightness of the light. Although you can’t get it as low as the moon mode found in the Yeelight app. If you want to adjust the color temperature, you can use the light wheel and make adjustments as desired.

You can also use the light in automation and scenes like any other HomeKit light. I set it to turn on in the morning as part of my morning automation and set the light temperature to cool white. I also added this to my Philips Hue dimmer switch in my bedroom, offering control along with other lights.
The charging pad works with all smartphones that have wireless charging capabilities, including the latest iPhones and Android devices. In my case, I used an iPhone XR and had no problems with it.
When you place the corresponding phone on the base, the small LED at the bottom of the lamp will light up to indicate that it is charging. However, if you install an incompatible device, the same LED will flash rapidly until you remove it.
Since I use this in my bedroom as a night light, the built in charging plate was a useful feature. Especially since I used it to charge my phone at night, ready for my day. Although I found it took a long time to charge. So this isn’t something I used to quickly boost my phone during the day.
