Update M31 6.128 Price Review – Samsung launched its new M series phones in Nepal a few weeks ago. Among them, Samsung M31 is an update of Samsung M30 and M30s.
I’ve been using this device for over 3 weeks and have already formed my own opinion about it. Check first if necessary. This is a follow-up to my initial impressions and includes a detailed review of the M31.

The Samsung Galaxy M31 uses a plastic body and has a glossy finish on the back. On the front is an AMOLED display with a waterdrop notch.

The plastic structure is designed to look like finished glass, but it certainly doesn’t.
This particular review unit had some minor scratches on the back panel during my use, but these were only noticeable upon close inspection. That’s why we recommend using a case.
On the back is a quad camera setup with a rectangular camera module along with an elliptical fingerprint sensor. The sides are bent on the frame and the sides are also bent.
From the front, the sides are slim, but the chin is still prominent. The buttons are on the right side and there is a tray for two sims and one micro SD.

The bottom has a headphone jack, USB Type-C port, microphone and speaker. On the other hand, there is another microphone on the top. Additionally, the earpieces are neatly placed in a notch at the top.
Although the plastic structure does not look good. It feels sturdy and sturdy. However, it is susceptible to scratches. So I would have preferred the glass back as seen on the Redmi Note 8 Pro for example.
I like the way it fits ergonomically in my hand. It is non-slip and can be used by hand. However, it is not easy to use with one hand. You have to get used to it.

As per my first impression everything remains the same. The colors are vivid and the contrast ratio is high. Great for YouTube, Netflix and gaming.
The display is impressive for media consumption. But in strong sunlight, it’s not that bright. If you want to take pictures or view content in strong sunlight, it will be a bit difficult.
The constant display is the same as usual. It can be adjusted to a certain level. You can also select other display color modes. For a more natural tone, you can select Natural mode or use Vivid mode. You can also adjust the warmth and make the color temperature colorful or warm.
To be honest, I’ve never been a huge fan of large megapixel sensors. I mean it’s great and all for capturing high detail, but I don’t think it’s really useful. After all, the photos on your smartphone will only remain on social media.

So what we get from the Samsung Galaxy M31 is a 64MP main sensor with a pixel size of 0.8μm. It’s a fairly large sensor that helps the sensor capture more light. In general, the Samsung Galaxy M31 takes great photos. However, like typical Samsung, it retains similar camera handling to other mid-range Samsung phones.
Added to the Samsung Galaxy M31, the 16MP image is extremely sharp, and image processing promotes high contrast and color saturation. The white balance you choose isn’t always the most accurate, and you tend to choose one that can bring out the colors in your scene.
The image is at the lowest ISO 20, so the HDR is pretty amazing. Preserves detail in dark areas without blowing out bright areas. I like the brightness of the isolated image. Slightly brighter than normal, but makes the image stand out.
Moving up to 64MP images obviously has more information. If you look at the images side-by-side, you’ll notice that they have more detail than the 48MP image. However, the image looks flatter than the attached 16MP image, but the colors are dull and more natural. And it doesn’t sharpen the image like the 16MP image does. Also, the 48MP image has a lower ISO of 40. We believe this is to balance out the lack of HDR.

To be fair, we prefer the included 16MP images as they stand out with striking colors and contrast. Also, the 16MP image has a higher dynamic range and better exposure.
However, it comes down to personal preference and you might want to stick with the 48MP images if you want to tweak something in post-processing. However, most of us don’t care about that, so 16MP images are fine in most cases.
So what about night mode? well. The first thing to note is that normal photos taken in low light lack detail and are noisy. Images may be out of focus when shooting late at night. But in this case, night mode helps. Reduce noise and make images more appealing.
Night mode images are sharper and better exposed. But the M31’s low-light images aren’t great. However, we recommend that you use night mode more often. Click to view the Ultrawide Angle Goodness slideshow.

As for the ultra-wide camera, the M31’s 8MP sensor is equivalent to the M30s’ 8MP sensor. I liked the 12MP sensor, but the 8MP sensor is pretty good in daylight. Ultra wide-angle images are high-contrast and retain the same color profile as the main sensor.
The image looks very sharp, but you can notice some noise around the edges. Also, when it gets dark, it doesn’t work as well as the main sensor. But it happens on every phone.
Now, when it comes to portrait photography, I’m impressed. Due to the pandemic, I haven’t been able to meet many people, so I don’t have many role models. But I’m impressed with what I’ve seen so far.
Depth of field doesn’t look fake. It is what I look for most in portrait photography. Moving on, edge detection is pretty good, but certainly not perfect. Some of her hair was cut off, but she looked pretty good with the glasses on. Very happy with the results.

Finally, it also has a 5MP macro sensor, which is a good thing. Most phones in this category other than the M31 use a 2MP macro sensor, so the extra detail makes the images more appealing. However, the color profile is different from the main sensor and looks blurry and lifeless. Check out the sample below!
Now I like the front camera. The 32MP sensor takes good photos with good contrast. The detail is nice too and the HDR works really well. Selfies do not light up even when there is a lot of light in the background.
Now, live selfies aren’t that great. Edge detection is not good. I had a lot of hair. And the blur looks artificial too. But I liked how HDR still gave me control over the highlights.
The Samsung M31 supports 4k video recording, but there is no 60fps option even at 1080p resolution. 4K video is detailed and sharp, but digital stabilization is lost in 4K, resulting in shaky video. Downgrading to 1080p significantly improves stabilization, but loses some 1080p detail.

Digital stabilization isn’t that impressive. You’ll see some distortion when trying to stabilize your shot. It now has a very stable 1080p feature, but it actually takes the video from the wide-angle camera and crops it a bit for a stabilized video.
The Samsung Galaxy M31 has the same chipset as the Samsung M30. Exynos 9611. However, it comes in two configurations, 6/128GB and 8/128GB, so there is an option to get the larger 8GB RAM.
The Exynos 9611 is a great chipset, but as we mentioned in our initial impressions, it’s not the best in its price range. It is built on a 10nm process and has an octa-core (4×2.3GHz Cortex-A73 and 4×1.7GHz Cortex-A53) CPU as well as a Mali-G72 MP3 GPU.
Following our first impressions, we ran some benchmarks and played more games to test real-world performance. Let’s look at the benchmarks first.

We’ll start with GeekBench, a CPU benchmark. The M31’s Exynos 9611 performs fairly well, with a single-core score of 347 and a multi-core score of 1288. Compared to Snapdragon 720G (Redmi Note 9 Pro), Snapdragon 665 (Realme 5i) and Snapdragon 675 (Redmi Note 7 Pro).
According to this benchmark, the Exynos 9611 Samsung M31 falls between the Snapdragon 665 and 675 in terms of performance, but the Redmi Note 9 Pro is far ahead.
