Update Lined Paper Pads Review – These notepads are designed to be sold. Anna Reinert and Bob Atkins took a limited amount of old typewriter stock, wrapped it in a printed cover, added some well-designed letterpress templates, and then priced it so low that no one could say no.
Ana Reinert is the owner of WellAppointedDesk.com and has a great online store. Along with all the writing products she reviews, she also produces and sells some well-curated articles. She has a great understanding of what makes good pen paper and one of her best sellers (I’m assuming here) is the Col-o-ring Ink Test Book. Her husband, Bob Akins, is the owner of Skylab Letterpress, which he founded in 2006 at 1968 Linn Street in Kansas City 🙂

Two of them came across an old typewriter box and it turned out to be a large pen paper! More on the story of how they got into the paper in my Q&A with them below.
Post It® Super Sticky Tropical Notes
The paper is a cotton blend and is very light which gives it a Tomo river feel. The ink has a short drying time but promotes some of the best pen ink shading. The letter also has a tooth to it that I’m not used to. Not a bad thing, just a different style of paper.
In the image above, you can see the layout of the dot grid through the pre-printed templates. I’ve seen templates like this before, and they’re a great addition to this notebook. There are 4 layouts, Dot-Grid, Square Grid, College Ruled and Wide Ruled. Such a beautiful design element and makes these the best notebooks I’ve seen around.
I asked Anna and Bob about Notepad and they were kind enough to answer some of my questions:
Bob participates in many printing press auctions. He went to a special auction and looked at the typewriter letter boxes and asked me if I had any interest in it. I said yes without hesitation. He wasn’t sure if it would be useful for anything, but I had a good feeling about it. So we left. We got the paper at a good price and I was right in my suspicions that the paper would be useful.

There is a coating applied to some writing papers to help make the printing ink “wipe off” which happens to work well with fountain pens too.
3. I know the books are sold, but do you offer the pattern sheets separately for sale?
We hadn’t intended to sell the guide sheets separately, but we certainly could if there was interest.
We have many other products in the pipeline. I don’t know if they will create much buzz over vintage stationery packs, but we like to keep trying new and different things.

Now, while these notepads are sold out, I still recommend checking out Anna’s shop. Not only does she have good quality products, but her site is a refreshing reminder of how online stores should do business. No annoying pop-ups asking for emails, no high-priced 25% off sale listings, just a clean, simple and organized site.
Speaking of how online shoppers can create better shopping experiences, look at packaging. The box is the perfect size for the contents and the notebooks are carefully gift wrapped.
I feel bad hanging onto these two notebooks when they sold out so quickly, so I’m offering the red notepad as a giveaway!

Feedback on last month’s review of the Cortex Sidekick Notepad brand was extremely positive – it’s clear that there is a lot of interest in this kind of practical workhorse. Stationery – So I thought it might make sense to dive further into the landscape/desktop notebook category. Today I’m going to discuss Write Notepad’s landscape notebook, a long-time favorite of mine that plays a similar but different role in my personal workflow.
Baltimore, Maryland-based Right Notepads is an independent print shop that produces spiral notebooks, notepads and pocket notebooks in standard and limited editions. In 2020, when I started the store, they were among the first to believe in my idea and let me carry their products, for which I am grateful. The main reason I continue to carry the brand, however, is their commitment to quality, and perhaps to ensure that I personally have continued access to certain items in their line. (Disclaimer: As mentioned, we sell some Write Notepads products directly in our store. I don’t think this affects my opinion of what has long been considered a good standard notebook by the community, but transparency is important. )
Well Appointed Desk Vintage Writing Paper Pad Review — Original Content Books
Write Notepad spiral notebooks All have a very durable kraft paper cover and a thick chipboard section, bound with durable double spiral binding.
I enjoyed the Sidekick Notepad review and the more structured layout of this notepad has found its place in my workflow. However, some of the writing I do requires unformatted paper and I can burn through it very quickly. Take yesterday for example. I spent most of the day sifting through Zoom calls and/or e-mails to gather input from dozens of different people on the project, while simultaneously working my ideas into a long draft that would eventually to reach 50. – page memo. Since I always do the first draft of anything by hand, I had a landscape-style notebook (pictured here) under my keyboard and basically took notes in “draft” form as I went back and forth in the conversation. By the end of the day I filled four or five pages with more loose-leaf notes taken on Baron Fig’s brain pad.
Obviously, I can’t show you the actual writing I do in my day job, but it’s nice to be able to write a continuous line horizontally across the page in this format.
Why this personal anecdote? When I discuss a product, I offer a recommendation and/or pick one for my setup, to explain why and how I put the use case into context. For example, in my review of the Sidekick, I noted that it “may not be a cost-effective option for those who burn 5+ pages on a daily basis or only use desks to take a lot of notes. Drafting.” Basically I was talking about myself and a subset of T.G.S. Readers I know have similar work habits. None of the papers I use are cheap, I try to keep an eye on the overall cost of the paper I use for certain writing-intensive projects to accommodate my preferences, and recently I’ve even tried moving some. My long work on e-ink tablets (more on that later).

I’ve had very good luck successfully using Write Notepads with wide nibs and stubs, mixed with very wet ink.
Given the type of writing I do, Write Notepads is one of many brands that strike a balance between paper quality and cost. The paper works well with pens and is absorbent enough to dry relatively quickly when I jot down quick notes at work and need to turn the page. The hard chipboard covers stay in the bag and will last a long time in storage if I need to store work notes for a long time. Are these notebooks correct? No. For one thing, I really want the pages to be perforated and would be willing to pay a few dollars more per notebook for that feature. A landscape notebook – in my opinion – would be full size if half an inch shorter to allow a better fit under the keyboard. But there is no such thing as a “perfect” product – the hobby would be fun if it did, wouldn’t it? – and so I can have a rotating stable of various pens, pads and notebooks to get me through my mass work week.
Some products are great because they’re just solid, well-executed examples of what they are, and cost-effective, if not cheap.
To allow you to use them in large quantities without feeling too guilty or extravagant. I’ve long loved the vintage aesthetic of Write Notepad’s spiral notebooks, and whether I’m working with pen, pen or pencil, paper has become a staple of my work day.
