Similar to cellphones, the government has also proposed reducing tariffs on some open-cell TV panels. The fee has been reduced from 5% to 2.5%, so TV prices are likely to drop somewhat as well, as aperture panels account for as much as 70% of LED TV manufacturing costs.
Commenting on the latest announcement, Sunil Nayyar, Managing Director, Sony India, told PTI, “The newly announced reduction in core tariffs on imports of several TV components is a huge boost for the TV industry. The overall design of the Micromax IN 1 has an old world charm. I looked at it carefully for a long time, but I couldn’t determine what it was. It’s not the thinnest phone around, at 8.99mm to be exact, but it feels a lot thinner than that when you carry it around. Whatever design shenanigans were there, they clearly worked. There’s also a 3.5mm headphone jack – which is nice, especially for an expensive Android phone. There’s a little glittery X pattern on the back, and the plastic feels really nice. At times, it feels a little thinner than you like, but the Micromax IN 1 is built and designed without disturbing flex or any annoying jagged edges. Micromax promises this backplate won’t be magnet fingerprints, and I’m happy to report that it didn’t pick up any fingerprints or smudges. Apart from the camera module, it’s still gloss black. But the entire back is prone to dust. There’s a fingerprint sensor on the back, but if I’m being completely honest, the same thing integrated into the power key (albeit in a completely different design) would make the experience even better.
The Micromax IN 1 powers a MediaTek Helio G80 chip, which, for all intents and purposes, is very similar to the likes of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 662 processor, which powers many phones priced around Rs 10,000. There are two RAM configurations to choose from – 4GB and a higher 6GB. Honestly, I’d recommend paying the extra for 6GB of RAM, which also gets you 128GB of storage instead of 64GB for the extra performance boost that comes with it. You may think 4G is more than enough now, but as you use more and more apps, 12 months may not be enough. If you’re going to stick with your phone for a while, get that extra buffer. Also in terms of price, the Micromax IN 1 is slightly lower than the IN Note 1, which has a slightly more powerful MediaTek Helio G85 chip. Performance is exactly what I’ve come to expect — it delivers what an affordable Android phone should be without feeling heavy. Open or switch between apps at will. Your processor, storage, and RAM will eventually have a virtual ceiling, after which you’ll start noticing some outages, but for most users, if you don’t leave the multitasking mess on your phone, your apps The program will run normally.
