The Vision V Series comes in several sizes. All of these models have full backlighting, but only three variants have local dimming: the 43-inch V436-G1, the 55-inch V556-G1 and the 65-inch V656-G4. This review is for the 55-inch model (V556-G1), which includes local dimming and 10 LED zones, but we also tested the V-Series version.
Dimming function: Vision V Series 60-inch (V605-G3). These are the only two models of the Vizio V Series that we tested.
Therefore, this raises an important question: What are the differences – if any – between these models? The short answer is that there is no significant difference between them, but if you choose the V Series model
Local dimming function with 10 or 12 LED zones, you can enjoy a higher maximum brightness level and tighter contrast, as we observed by comparing the test results of each model.

There are additional, small differences in performance between the two versions of the V Series we tested, but none significant enough to call out. With the exception of brightness, we do not expect much to change between the different models of the V Series of Vision.

From a connectivity standpoint, the 55-inch Vizio V Series (V556-G1) isn’t an AV enthusiast’s dream, but it will still suit most people. Take a trip behind the panel and this is what you’ll find:

Before testing each TV, we make sure the panel is powered on and receiving a continuous signal for at least 24 hours, which allows the pixels to warm up over time.
For the SDR test, we used the Vizio V Series “Calibrated” picture settings. For the HDR test, we also used the “Calibrated” Vizio picture setting.
We use the standard ANSI checkerboard format for most of our basic contrast tests (including what’s reported below), but we also use white and black windows from 2% to 90% to test how well contrast holds up when displaying different levels. light

The V Series’ design isn’t flashy, but its simple, understated look will feel right at home in any room. The bezels are narrow enough not to draw attention, and the TV’s wide feet put the image front and center. The panel itself is quite bright, but not so much that any glare would be too distracting.
Whether in SDR or HDR, the 60-inch V Series (V605-G3) averages around 230-300 nits of brightness, coupled with a respectable black level of around 0.040 nits. The picture sure looks like it
While HDR content, but I should be clear: this is not an HDR TV that clearly shows the benefits of HDR content, even though it supports Dolby Vision.
Vizio M Series Quantum X Led Tv Review
The same applies to the color output of the Series V. In the 55-inch V556-G1, I measured only 76% of the color range of P3 and 98% coverage of the Rec.709 standard. It doesn’t have as rich an experience as the quantum dot TV, but for a budget TV, it punches well above its water level.
And that’s the best thing the V Series has going for it: emotional value. Across the board – from color to contrast to motion handling – the V-series delivers better-than-average performance. While it doesn’t quite excel in some of these categories, overall, the Vizio V-Series is one of the more well-rounded TVs you’ll find in this price range.
This is a great TV at a reasonable price, but make no mistake: HDR performance is nothing special about it. Overall, the 55-inch V556-G1 peaks at around 300 nits, and these measurements reflect tests performed when bright content is on the screen.
Notice the difference, but if you’re switching from another entry-level HDR TV, there’s not much the V Series can surprise you with. The difference in TVs is admirable given the cost, but this is not a TV to buy if you’re hoping to knock your socks off.
Vizio V Series 65
You don’t have to drop the price of the V Series — or the Vizio lineup, for that matter — to find a TV with some upside. 55-inch Vizio M Series Quantum is the same price as the 65-inch Vizio V Series (V656-G4), and although it is 10 inches smaller, it has a quantum dot screen for better brightness and rich color reproduction.
There’s no denying that Vizio’s smart platform, SmartCast, gets better with every update. Unfortunately, it remains one of the weaker platforms out there. I can safely say that the software is faster than maybe before, but the platform does not allow users to add new apps in addition to the existing ones. Of course, the user interface is simple and the navigation experience is fast, but the only amount of customization offered is the ability to rearrange the order in which the application icons are presented.
The TV’s built-in Chromecast support went a long way toward fixing this wrinkle, as users can download the Vizio app and stream content from their personal devices, but this certainly doesn’t make up for SmartCast’s lack of flexibility.
Yes, the 55-inch Vizio V-Series (V556-G1) is a great 4K/HDR TV, especially for people upgrading from a Full-HD, non-HDR TV.

This V-series won’t turn heads, but for most people, the budget price and commendable performance are good enough reasons to close the deal. That said, if you’re looking for exciting features to hang your hat on, but don’t mind breaking out of the V Series’ price range, consider the Vizio M Series Quantum. The M Series Quantum is a better display overall, thanks in part to its quantum dot display – a luxury usually reserved for high-end TVs.
All that said, whether you choose the V-Series model without local dimming (like Vizio V605-G3) or the spring for the V-Series model.
