Oppo is already making a name for itself in its native China, but plans to make a big push in India in 2016, and with a boost to its presence in Europe, it could become a household name.
The F1 Plus is the latest flagship and is called the “Selfie Expert”. The 16-megapixel front-facing camera gets a lot of marketing attention. But people take selfies. Hopefully there’s a good smartphone behind it all, we’re here to find out.
For this review, we used the Oppo-supplied Southeast Asian model of the F1 Plus on EE and Vodafone in the UK. The spell also occurred when the phone was roaming the local networks of China and Hong Kong.
During the two-week review period, the F1 Plus received firmware update number X9009EX_11_A.13_160413. The software was Color OS 3.0 based on Android 5.1 Lollipop.

The F1 Plus follows Oppo’s recent trend of metal, metal, metal. But while Chinese phones are often criticized for looking like Apple, it’s almost guaranteed here. Whether this is bad or not depends on your personal worldview. Either way, it’s a good-looking, well-built phone.
The F1 Plus is very slim, but doesn’t feel uncomfortable if you’re on a heavy diet. The metal back and sides quickly meet the front of the phone, forming just enough of a lip to prevent it from being too slippery. If that’s your concern, Oppo has a TPU case in the box.
It’s also fairly well-balanced, with almost non-existent side bezels that keep the phone wide while being tall. This ties in with the front-facing fingerprint sensor on the F1 Plus, marking Oppo’s first phone with a home button.

In the hands-on video above, I criticized the fingerprint sensor because it simply refused to work out of the box. After some time, this opinion changed dramatically. It is one of, if not the fastest. The key is in the settings.
During the initial setup out of the box, I didn’t move my fingers much. And I mentioned that it only works directly with dead fingers. If you move your finger and change the horizontal orientation while typing the fingerprint, everything works fine.
Huawei has been praised for the speed of its fingerprint scanner, but Oppo may have taken the crown. It’s definitely faster than the iPhone. You still have to press the home button to wake the screen, but the scanner is so fast you’ll never see a lock screen alert.
The screen is good if not outstanding. Oppo has stuck with a 5.5-inch Full HD display, and anyone who says it’s not great would be lying. Anyway, it’s not the best phone, but it’s still good. The AMOLED panel is vibrant and still sharp enough to make pixels disappear. So everything is very clear.

The rest of the F1 Plus has the usual phone parts. You still have a microUSB charging port with Oppo’s own VOOC fast charging support. Along the bottom edge, you have one speaker and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Yes, it’s at the bottom of the jurisdiction.
One design choice I’m not too fond of is the power and volume controls on the opposite side of the phone. It could be muscle memory on my part, but I’ve turned off the screen too many times when I wanted to turn down the volume. The location is still very good for taking screenshots. If you wrap two fingers around the phone with both hands, you can easily squeeze it, which is very convenient for a rather large phone.
Another thing I would like to mention is the internal memory. The F1 Plus has a microSD card slot, which is great. But the best thing is that it has 64GB of storage. Better than the LG G5, Galaxy S7 or HTC 10. Oppo did a good job. It’s really good.
At the end of the day, what we have in the F1 Plus is a good-looking, well-made, thin and light phone with a great fingerprint scanner. In terms of hardware, it ticks most of the boxes, especially if you’re looking for a reliable mid-ranger. Lots to like and nothing to dislike.
Oppo F3 Plus Review: One For The Selfie Lovers
Remember when we pulled together a line of phones that didn’t use Marshmallow in 2016? The F1 Plus doesn’t run on Android Marshmallow, so note the dashed line.
However, don’t dwell on that, because there’s a lot to talk about. Believe it or not, Oppo has done a lot of good with its customized version of our favorite mobile operating system, Color OS.
The first is overall performance. The previous versions were pretty bad with lag and weird stuff like in 2011. This is not good. But with version 3.0, all of that is gone. Hello smooth city, residents of Oppo F1 Plus.
It might be the extra hardware of this phone compared to previous phones, but it’s smooth and fast now anyway. This is what makes Color OS a pleasure to use for the most part.
Oppo R9s And R9s Plus Specs, Price, Release Date And Everything Else You Should Know
Like EMUI and MIUI, the arrival of Color OS will divide opinion. Lots of white, lots of colors, a whole pack of themes to download and customize more. There’s no app drawer, and you either care about it or you don’t.
One of the changes compared to stock Android, and one thing that takes Color OS down the iOS rabbit hole, is how you can find stock apps options in the phone’s main settings menu. You may not use any of these, but it’s still a bit confusing to look at. This affects everything except the main browser.
It’s stock browser is Opera. It’s not, it’s labeled “Powered by Opera”, but if you’ve downloaded Opera from the Play Store, you’ll get exactly the same app. I like it because in some ways I still use Opera, but the approach is better than my own experience with Oppo. You still have Chrome pre-installed like never before, but the stock browser isn’t a horrible app you never want to touch.
This is usually a very good thing. In addition to the mailbox. Appearance and behavior. This addresses Huawei’s problem, which means that any app that broadcasts messages in dark text (Gmail, Slack, etc.) will be unreadable because of the dark, transparent background.
