The Best Nikon Camera For 2023

The D6 is Nikon’s flagship DSLR. Wildlife photographers have used the D1/D2/D3/D4/D5/D6 series for years, and the D6 continues that tradition. It has an impressive processor, tank-like build quality and a high frame rate of 14 FPS burst.
Like the Nikon Z9, the Nikon D6 has disadvantages in terms of price and weight. It’s actually $1,000 more expensive than the Z9 and a bit heavier. The D6 has another downside: its 20.8MP sensor leaves little room for cropping. (Some wildlife photographers may prefer smaller files, but note that the Nikon Z9’s RAW files are no larger than the D6’s files.)
I think the D6 is suitable if you use DSLRs. I still use the Nikon D500 for most of my wildlife photography, and even though it’s an older DSLR, I’m still amazed at how well it holds up. And from what I’ve heard from other wildlife photographers, the D500 is one of the few DSLRs that people still care about.

So is it worth getting the D500 in 2023? I certainly think so. There is a similar camera system in the Nikon D850, but it is better because the same system covers a wider field of view on a digital camera like the D500. It also captures events at up to 10 FPS, which is better than most wildlife photos.
Perhaps the biggest disadvantage of the Nikon D500 is that it uses a DX sensor instead of a full frame. This affects the low light level of the camera. It’s also 20 megapixels, not 45 – although you’re planning to store more files than the D850, the difference isn’t huge.
I still have a lot of life left in my D500 and I plan to use it for a long time!
The Nikon D5 was Nikon’s flagship when it was launched, and it’s still very capable. It is the same for the generation D4, D4s and even the old D3. All of these cameras are very dated, but they deserve to be on this list because you can get them at amazing prices. More than 12 FPS is impressive, although it is a mistake, because it is only visible live (the autofocus system is very weak). You’ll get a very pedestrian 7 FPS by viewing. The burst size is very nice at 68 images (14 bit lossless RAW).
The Nikon D780 is a great camera. It’s not about being “the best” at anything, but rather about doing a really good job at whatever you throw at it. Pictures of wild animals are no problem.
