The follow-up to the best smartphone of the first half of 2019 is, unsurprisingly, the best phone of the end of 2019. The OnePlus 7T Pro is a minor update of the great OnePlus 7 Pro that retains all the good features, improves the camera . And it speeds up the fingerprint scanner.
The monster 6.67-inch QHD+ AMOLED screen runs at 90Hz, compared to 60Hz for most of the competition, arguably the best in the business. It’s bright, sharp, and extremely smooth, and has no pinholes or camera marks. The selfie camera pops up from the top on command – a constant crowd pleaser.

The 7T Pro is the fastest phone ever – everything goes at once. It has Qualcomm’s top chip, the Snapdragon 855+, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of fast UFS3.0 storage, enough for pretty much everything. The optical in-display fingerprint scanner is faster than ever, putting the competition to shame.
The latest OxygenOS 10, the company’s super-slick version of Android 10, is also arguably the best in the business, and you’ll get fast updates for three years.
The triple camera system on the back is also nice, consisting of a 48MP main camera, a 16MP ultra-wide camera and an 8MP telephoto camera. New to the 7T Pro is a super macro mode, which is surprisingly good, producing clear images just 2.5cm from the lens, great fun. The 7T Pro can’t top the iPhone 11 Pro or Pixel 4XL, but it matches or beats the rest in terms of detail and usability.
The 7T Pro lasts about 32 hours between charges, making it one of the best performers. Charging is also exceptionally fast via the company’s WarpCharge system, reaching 70% in just 34 minutes via cable. However, there is no wireless charging.

Dual SIM support is useful for work or travel. It is somewhat water resistant, but not IP rated. There’s a McLaren limited edition and a 5G version in the US, but not in the UK, where the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G is still the current model.
The incredible display, fast speeds and in-display fingerprint scanner combined with the sleek OxygenOS 10 make even the simplest tasks a joy. The massive OnePlus 7T Pro is worth making.

Good things come in small packages. The iPhone 11 Pro isn’t the biggest or the most expensive of Apple’s 2019 smartphones, but it’s the best and almost the best phone of the year.

It’s not all gravy: starting with just 64GB of storage is bad. The older Lightning connector is still retained instead of the newer USB-C standard. There’s no 5G option and it’s very expensive – don’t buy the iPhone 11 Pro looking for value for money. Also iOS 13 has been a mixed bag since its release, with many bugs that need to be fixed.
But overall, no other phone can match the iPhone 11 Pro in terms of power, capacity and size. iPhone 11 Pro is the smallest phone to buy and runs the best iOS.

If you want Android’s sweet spot between a great big screen and a small phone that’s easy to handle and pocketable, the Galaxy S10 is it.
The 6.1-inch AMOLED QHD+ display with a small punch notch in the top right is one of the best on the market and big enough to display most cool apps and movies.
Small bezels all around make the phone quite compact compared to its rivals, and it’s also lightweight. It’s still a glass and metal sandwich, which means you might need a case to protect it from drops.
The Galaxy S10 was recently updated with Samsung’s new One UI 2 software, which is based on the latest Android 10, which also includes much improved navigation gestures. You should get about three years of software support from Samsung’s launch, though the company is generally slower than Google and OnePlus to deliver major Android version updates.
The Best Phones To Buy In 2023
The triple rear camera is good, allowing you to zoom from 0.5 to 2x and then hybrid zoom up to 10x. It won’t beat the Pixel 4 XL or iPhone 11 Pro, but it gets the job done. The selfie camera has a direct hit to the screen and is one of the best cameras available in the market.
The performance is good but the battery life is a bit weak, it lasts for a day during use but not more than that. The under-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor has proven to be a bit slow and fiddly over time, which can be annoying.
The big-screen Android experience in a relatively small phone is the main selling point, but good cameras, performance and looks also help.

The Huawei P30 Pro has by far the best camera on a phone. Even at the end of 2019, no other phone offers as complete a combination as Huawei’s new Leica quad cameras.
The 20MP 0.6x ultra-wide-angle camera is fun, the 40MP main camera is great, and it’s joined by a new 5x optical zoom periscope camera that gets you closer than any other smartphone. If five times magnification wasn’t enough, there’s an excellent 10x hybrid zoom on top and then a digital zoom of up to 50x. A time-of-flight sensor with 3D depth detection completes the rear module.
In addition to remarkable zoom levels, the P30 Pro also boasts low-light performance that instantly turns night into day without waiting a few seconds for a shot. The P30 Pro may not have the best Night Sight rival, but most of the time it doesn’t need one.
