Vizio then introduced the Vizio M801d-A3R 80-inch M Series LED Smart TV to join the big screen LED/Smart TV competition. Now THIS is… a TV worth breaking our wallets for.

Picture quality surpasses Sharp TVs, which are slightly lighter and have a better physical build. It offers excellent refresh rates, all the apps you need, and the picture is once again stunning. Most importantly…it weighs around $4,000 (give or take a few).

It’s an edge-lit LED, and many people have edge-bleeding issues with some TVs. If you’re familiar with edge-lit displays, you know what we’re talking about. In our experience with this TV, we found nothing to note or complain about. There were no borderline distractions to distract the eye from the overall picture. No weird brights from the edges (lights both on and off) and dark scenes (even all black scenes) didn’t result in any image inconsistencies (in terms of color or texture).
This TV delivers very accurate and very deep blacks that are pleasing to the eye. The screen is very glossy, so it gives it a nice glassy quality compared to the non-glossy/less glossy screen with a plastic look that some TVs work to achieve for some reason. The downside to a good bright screen is that you can get more reflections during the day, but the quality that helps you find the image you’re looking at far outweighs that.
The speed of the included apps is impressive. We’ve played with TVs and Blu-ray players in the past, and navigating menus and apps was just plain frustrating. However, the Vizio was quick and responsive, and our A.D.D. did not cause any problems to the team.
3D video looks great on this TV, and it also comes with 4 pairs of glasses, so if you have a family (unless you haven’t already, of course) you won’t be sending “add-ons” to the store. Life is very busy and you have a few more kids to give glasses to… so you can go shopping). The amount of glasses they provide isn’t great considering the average household size, so given that some TVs only come with a pair or two, extra credit to Vizio is reasonable. We haven’t tested regular or off-brand theater glasses (ie imax or RealD), so we can’t offer much detail outside of the glasses that come with them. The 3D picture is impressive, but it doesn’t look like some of the 3D technology that wowed us at CES earlier this year.

The controller is simple, so if you want something crazy, you might want to consider a nice Logitech Harmony or something else. With so many training remotes on the market (including a Logitech one that can download TV profiles directly to it), we couldn’t fault them for the remote (though if they did, they could have been easier). desired).
We couldn’t fault them for the screen’s speakers either, as we don’t think any flat-screen TV has decent speakers. If you’re looking for basic sound to watch TV with, this TV has the same sound quality as almost any TV. If you’re looking for theatrical sound… you should always invest in a good bar or surround sound system, because with TV you’re mostly paying for video quality (sound is the icing on the cake).
We found no bugs in the provided firmware. However, as with any TV or Blu-Ray player, it’s a good idea to update the firmware as soon as you take it out of the box and turn on the device (if not). Always make sure you have the latest firmware before you start customizing your TV. This helps reduce bugs found in older firmware versions.
Finally, we think someone has produced a quality big screen LED that stands out and is affordable to the general public. It beats the price of the Samsung (currently the largest at 75 inches), the price of the Sharp, and everything else in the competition (currently).
