Update Xiaomi Mobile Phone Review

Update Xiaomi Mobile Phone Review – The Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi is currently on a roll again, especially in the mid-range segment. With the new Note 11 series, the Redmi sub-brand presented up to six different devices covering the entire price range from 200 to 400 euros. In this review, we want to take a closer look at the Redmi Note 11S, which is available at a suggested retail price of €249.90.

For this price, customers get a high-quality OLED screen with a smooth 90 Hertz refresh rate, the MediaTek Helio G96, a 5,000 mAh battery with 33 watt fast charging, a 108-megapixel quad camera and much more. On paper the smartphone is absolutely convincing In this detailed test you can find out if this also happens in everyday life and if it is worth buying.

Measuring almost 160mm in height and 74mm in width, the Redmi Note 11S has a very pleasing size that many have to come to terms with. It is not small by any means, but it is not as big as those, for example Poco F3 or Redmi Note 11 Pro. In addition, the low weight of 179 grams together with the thickness of 8.09 millimeters and the slightly rounded back contribute to pleasant handling.

Matte plastic is used on the back, which is much easier to care for and less prone to fingerprints than glossy plastic. It also feels noticeably more premium. Coupled with the also matte plastic frame, the Redmi Note 11S feels noticeably more premium than its predecessor or Realme’s competition. With

Customers have three gorgeous colors to choose from, all of which are matte. I tried the gray version, which always shimmers a little differently depending on the light. In addition to the color, the eye is immediately drawn to the camera unit in the left corner, which bears the letters

It is decorated. A total of four sensors can be found here, and at least the large main sensor protrudes too far from the case, which is why the smartphone wobbles noticeably when used on a table.

If we turn the smartphone upside down, a large screen appears, interrupted only by a small hole in the middle. Unfortunately, this isn’t black, it’s grey/silver, which doesn’t really match the black edges. The edges could be a little thinner, but for $250 I don’t want to complain too much here.

Finally, let’s take a look at editing. The case makes a solid, well-made impression and, unlike some of the other competitors, the back is hard to beat. In addition, the keys have a very good pressure point, sit quite firmly in the case and are perfectly positioned for easy one-handed access.

A 6.43-inch OLED panel is used on the front, which has a pleasingly sharp resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels, so that individual pixels are never visible in everyday use. I find the resolution of YouTube videos a bit odd as it looks like the background has been artificially sharpened, which gives a slightly exaggerated impression, but it didn’t really bother me. The display also supports a smooth 90 Hertz refresh rate, which makes scrolling and all animations look smooth. Additionally, there is a touch sampling rate (indicates how often the board registers, scans or recognizes inputs in one second) of 180 Hertz.

Both black and white levels are very good, especially considering the RRP. Colors are reproduced intensively, but still quite realistically, and there is nothing to complain about in terms of viewing angle stability and brightness. The screen is easy to read even on sunny days and the colors only change color when the screen is tilted a lot.

The software used is the MIUI internal user interface in version 13 based on Android 11. At the time of writing, the February security patch was up to date.

Xiaomi Or Samsung? Phones, Ecosystems And Updates Compared

MIUI is a highly customized user interface that has relatively little in common with stock Android. It is very colorful and in my opinion very confusing at some points. There are a number of additional features, such as “Moving Windows”: When notifications arrive, they can be dragged down and the app will then open in a small window. You can move and resize this window. There’s also a one-handed mode, which is definitely a plus with such large screens. But what I don’t like so much is “Always on Display”, which is not always on. Content like the time or battery level is only displayed for 10 seconds on the off screen, which is not the point of a “screens on screen”.

Unfortunately, Netflix, TikTok, Amazon, Amazon Music, Facebook, LinkedIn, WPS Office, Spotify, AliExpress and some games originally came with some bloatware pre-installed. Fortunately, all apps are easy to uninstall.

Under the hood is MediaTek’s Helio G96, backed by 6GB of RAM and 64 or 128GB of flash memory. The internal memory can be easily expanded using a microSD card.

The processor combined with 90 Hertz ensures good, fast and above all smooth performance. Apps launch and close pleasantly quickly, and there’s almost no stuttering or lag. RAM management is also quite satisfactory, which was still a criticism of the predecessor. Only in the camera app or with more intensive use do you quickly notice that the Redmi Note 11S is only a mid-range smartphone. With a Real GT Master Edition, for example, it’s still a little better, but the performance of the Note 11S is also more than impressive for 250 euros.

Xiaomi 12 Lite Review: Light But Not A Lightweight

The 5,000 mAh battery ensures incredible runtimes, because at the end of the day I usually had between 5 and 5.5 hours per percent battery with 40 to 49 hours of screen-on time. So even frequent users should be able to get through a day without a charge, and if the battery is dead, it can be fully recharged in about 33 minutes with the included 70-watt power adapter, which is perfectly acceptable.

One of my biggest criticisms of the predecessor was the disappointing camera, which wasn’t worth the €250 RRP. I’m even more pleased that Redmi is now installing a new 11-megapixel main sensor on the 108S, which is also quite large at 1/1.52 inches. The ultra-wide-angle camera with 8 megapixels has remained (unfortunately) the same and the manufacturer has not made any changes to the two sensors, each with 2 megapixels for macro shots and depth effects. A 13 megapixel front camera is responsible for selfies.

Both the HUAWEI nova 9 SE (left) and the Redmi Note 11S (right) have the same 108-megapixel main sensor. (Image: )

The main camera has received a significant upgrade not only on paper but also in the final image quality compared to its predecessor. Above all, the color rendering is now much better and simply more realistic. Plus there’s good dynamic range and solid sharpness, though I’d expect a bit more here at 108 megapixels.

Once the lighting conditions get worse, you should definitely use the night mode, which exposes the images for a few seconds, so that you can get better results. The quality is absolutely fine for 250 euros, but I would have expected a bit more from such a large sensor. The Realme GT Master Edition or the HUAWEI nova 9 SE have something more to offer.

A well-known sensor is used for the ultra-wide-angle camera, which is disappointing on some entry-level and mid-range smartphones, but actually delivers stable and easy-to-use recordings on the Redmi Note 11S. Here too, colors are reproduced as naturally as possible and, compared to some of the competitors, there are no significant image distortions at the edges.

As with all entry-level competitors, the dedicated macro camera is completely useless. Even in good lighting conditions, photos are very blurry and quickly begin to rust. For macro photos, I recommend using the main camera. Adequate selfies are possible with the front camera.

The smartphone can be unlocked via the fingerprint sensor on the side of the frame. The sensor is easily accessible with one hand and impresses across the board in terms of speed and reliability.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra Review: Xiaomi Can Be Top Class, But

Last but not least, I would like to mention the vibration motor. At least for an RRP of €249.90, it conveys a fairly premium feel in the hand, but it does sound a bit jarring, especially when the device is on the table and vibrating with incoming notifications. A Samsung Galaxy A52, OnePlus North CE or I live V21 5G are noticeably worse here, so I’m quite satisfied with the Note 11S’s vibration motor.

Redmi Note 11S is a good mid-range smartphone for 250 euros, which does not set new standards in this price range, but it is convincing in almost all points:
