When it comes to design, Xiaomi relies on more bezels. The case’s gently sloped body and rounded corners give the Redmi Note 11 a look that more or less mimics Apple’s current iPhone line. Instead of metal, plastic is used almost tirelessly. Both the body and the back are made from it and are responsible for a light weight of just 179g. Only the side control buttons are made of aluminum.
I particularly like the size of the smartphone. It measures just 159.87 x 73.87 x 8.09mm, making it one of the most compact devices available today. In terms of color, you can choose between “graphite grey,” “starburst blue,” or “twilight blue.” The back of my tester was kept in the standard “graphite” gray. Elegant color without frills. Shades of blue are funnier.
Hand feel and workmanship have an impact. Thanks to the flat frame, the smartphone is easy to hold. The matte plastic back doesn’t feel slippery at all, but it does pick up fingerprints pretty quickly. The same applies to dust, which prefers to settle on the edges of the camera bump and slightly dampen the attractive appearance.

Xiaomi actually installed an AMOLED display on the Redmi Note 10 last year after using LCD screens in Xiaomi’s budget range for a long time. Now they have gone further and have given the Redmi Note 11 a 6.43-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2400 x 1800 pixels (409ppi) and a refresh rate of 90Hz.
The 90Hz refresh rate ensures that the visual impression is particularly smooth. The higher refresh rate is especially noticeable when scrolling through music quickly. In general, the screen looks “smoother” and the aftereffect is reduced. By default, the Redmi Note 11 is set to 60Hz. However, the 90Hz was activated at short notice by setting up the display. The only downside: battery consumption could be a bit higher in theory, and not all apps support high refresh rates. There is no adaptive refresh rate adjustment.
The AMOLED screen presents an amazing look in everyday use. Colors are sharp, black levels are rich, and the screen is very sharp thanks to a high 409 pixels per inch. The maximum screen brightness is excellent and allows for good outdoor readability. Only the slightly reflective glass of the display and the automatic brightness adjustment, which sometimes darkens a lot, can only be criticized. Different viewing angles do not affect display or readability.
Let’s look at the display settings again. There, the dark mode (dark mode) can be activated manually or on a schedule, there is a blue light filter reading mode and advanced color scheme settings. Color theme settings include Vivid, Saturated, and Standard presets. In addition, the color temperature can be set using the color wheel or in the “Standard”, “Warm” and “Cool” modes.

Redmi Note 11 is one of the first smartphones to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 2021 mobile platform, previously tested on the 680 d. The chip is manufactured using a 6nm process and features an octa-core processor clocked at up to 2.4GHz and Adro 610 GPU.

Comparing the Snapdragon 680 to the Snapdragon 678 is good evidence that “higher number” doesn’t always mean “more power”. In fact, the Snapdragon 680 hides a slight performance degradation. Instead of the Kryo 265 cores, slower Kryo 460 cores are used. The Snapdragon 680 of the Redmi Note 11 makes up for the performance difference, which is noticeable in bchmark but not in everyday life, with a more powerful (6nm vs. 11nm), better image processor and support for 90Hz screens.

In normal use, the Redmi Note 11 looks good. Navigation through the music is mostly smooth and without major glitches. Applications load in an acceptable short time and remain active for a long time despite low working memory. Playing a mobile game like PUBG and switching to Chrome during a match, to WhatsApp and back to PUBG works just fine.
Most demanding mobile games (PUBG, Asphalt and Co.) can be played smoothly with low details. No abnormal heat generation, including performance degradation at full load.
The Redmi Note 11 series is the first Xiaomi smartphone series to ship with the new MIUI 13. MIUI 13 is still based on Android 11, but will be updated to Android 12 in the coming months.
MIUI 13 innovations mainly happen in the background. Performance should be improved by optimizing background processes and using memory more efficiently. “Floating windows” for simplified multitasking or “Simple mode” that reduces visual flourishes and large fonts are some of the features offered by MIUI 13.

I wasn’t warm to the Redmi Note 11’s main camera. Backlit shots quickly push the camera to its limits and the limited dynamic range breaks down. Shadows sink in and lights partially eat up. Auto HDR mode only helps to a limited extent here.
Somehow the exposure isn’t metered as it should be. The main camera cannot find an acceptable compromise between light and dark, and photos taken in bright sunlight are too dark. Despite the identical specifications, the Redmi 10 delivers better results. So one can hope Xiaomi improves the software here.
But the Redmi Note 11’s main camera also has its good points. Autofocus focuses quickly and accurately, color reproduction looks natural and the level of detail is appropriately high for its price category.
Don’t set too high expectations for recording quality in poor lighting conditions. The level of detail decreases, blur increases, and color intensity visually decreases at the same time.

Unfortunately, the night mode does not help. Although the dynamics of the image is slightly increased by increasing the brightness of the dark part of the image, this does not improve the reproduction of details.
The wide-angle camera produces acceptable shots for its price range. In terms of image sharpness and level of detail, there are definitely better wide-angle cameras out there. If you watch the footage on the big screen, everything looks a bit washed out and muddy. However, the recordings are quite enough for a small screen.
