Here in the UK we have a chain store called WH Smith, a store that all of us in the UK must have visited at one point or another. WH Smith is a stationery store that sells newspapers, pastries, novels, stationery and art supplies for the school.

WH Smith has stores on the street of almost every major city in England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, they also have smaller kiosk-style stores in most train stations, major airports and ferry terminals. WH Smith also has stores in North America and Canada, but under different names, Marshalls Retail Group and InMotion. They also have stores in other European countries like France, Italy, Germany, Denmark etc. and they also have stores in Australia. You can also find stores in the Middle East and China, but these stores are mostly located in airports

Although this is unfortunately a review mainly for UK artists due to the geographic location of WH Smith stores, I know there are a number of US artists and others who have expressed an interest in learning more about WH Smith colored pencils , so I hope this review will help those interested. , I mentioned earlier that WH Smith stores sell art supplies, of course they do, but it’s a fairly limited selection. Depending on which store you visit, you can buy some products from Derwent, Caron D’Ache, Winsor & Newton, Daler Rowney, and Conte, but all stores carry WH Smith’s own brand of art, especially their colorful Will sell the product. I usually add this section of the review a bit further down however I feel I should clarify this before I go any further as I think this will make the review more clear I’m afraid I’ve done a video review, If I could complicate it, this is a process I would do even if I didn’t really want to.
My wife was in town one day and I asked her to pick up a set of WH Smith colored pencils for review. I had been looking forward to review WH Smith Colored Pencils for a while based on the messages and emails I received earlier. About them and so I remembered this and asked my beautiful wife Victoria to bring me a set. When he reached home, he bought two different games because he didn’t know which one he wanted and because they were both relatively cheap, he bought both.
Although this is not purely a comparison video, it is a mix of a review and comparison video, I hope you don’t mind. WH Smith offers two sets of colored pencils, one set sold in a tin and the other in a flimsy cardboard box. Of course, I’ll go into more detail about both sets later in the review, but for now I’ll try to keep it brief.

WH Smith Colored Pencils in Tins, otherwise officially titled Artist Colored Pencils by WH Smith, are considered their high quality set. I say WH Smith refer to this set as Artist, but that’s only on the website when you go to buy them, there’s nothing to suggest artist quality pencils outside the tin. The second set of colored pencils sold by WH Smith are sold in a cardboard box, the packaging artwork is quite minimal and comes across as a lower quality pencil than the WH Smith colored pencils in the tin. There are other distinguishing features between the two pencils, but it’s not that noticeable when opening a game, which we’ll definitely see.
Interestingly, WH Smith colored pencils in tins are sold in sets of 12, 24 and 36, while lesser quality WH Smith colored pencils in cartons are sold in sets of 12, 24, 36 and 48. Please correct me if I am wrong on this but according to the website these are the set sizes and according to my wife these were the set sizes in the store for both the pencils.
This review primarily focuses on the WH Smith Colored Pencils set, although I do occasionally talk and show about the other set, I know it’s confusing and I deeply apologize for that, However, I knew that all those people who know both sets would ask questions and want to know what I was about to provide, so hopefully I could do a good job of not confusing things.
I bought WH Smith colored pencil set of 36 for this review, which is the largest set in this line, opening the set you are immediately faced with a layering of 36 pencils. The barrels are triangular in shape, which takes some time to grip, although this particular shape is used to help young artists hold their pencils properly. I say right, say right according to which I will never know. I was regularly spanked during my elementary school years because I was unable to hold my pencil properly no matter how hard I tried, and the fear eventually stopped me from wanting to write.

The WH Smith Triangular Colored Pencils have a 3.6mm wide core that is housed inside a 7.6mm triangular barrel. Each barrel is color-coded to match the pencil core, making color selection visually quick and easy. The only information printed along the barrel is WH Smith, which is located towards the end of the barrel. The only other mark on the WH Smith triangular barrel is a decorative silver banister that separates the WH Smith logo from the rest of the barrel.
The triangular barrel of the WH Smith sharpens very nicely, as with a square set of pencils I recently reviewed, one could be forgiven for questioning whether such an irregular barrel shape is a good fit. Will be kind of sharp or not, but like the square pencil, WH Smith’s triangular pencil WH Smith. Accelerate perfectly without any problems.
On the actual tin of WH Smith Triangular Colored Pencils, there is some information indicating various features of the pencil, such as triangular barrel, high concentration of color which we will return to in the performance analysis, break resistant core, good for dry mixing . And blending, another subject for display and ultimately suitable for various surfaces, which I think can be applied to any artistic product.
However, perhaps most impressive is the information printed on the inside of the can’s lid. I have provided an image below for you to click and enlarge so that you can read it yourself instead of rewriting it. However, I thought it was a really nice touch for young artists to buy this pencil set and learn a little more about pencils in addition to applying color to paper.

Although there is a set of 48 available in this range of WH Smith colored pencils, the day Vicky bought them for me, this set of 36 was the largest set in the store, which worked well considering the palette of the two . Games are similar.
The first thing to note with this range of WH Smith colored pencils is the flimsy cardboard box packaging, the actual pencils are quite safe as they are protected by a clear cellophane wrapper, but overall this is not a package I would make sure to send. World and hope the pencils come out in one piece. The artwork or images on the front of the box aren’t as bright and colorful as the can sets, but they provide a clear distinction between the two sets and selecting the wrong set shouldn’t be a problem.
The first noticeable difference is that the pencils in this WH Smith colored pencil set have a hexagonal barrel. The overall dimensions are slightly smaller than those of WH Smith’s triangular colored pencils, weighing 3.2 mm, housed in a slim 6.9 mm barrel.
Each barrel is painted a charcoal gray, with an inch-long pigmented identifier on the end of each barrel. Like the WH Smith triangle colored pencils, the WH Smith logo is printed on the end of the barrel. However, perhaps more puzzling than anything else I’ve seen when reviewing art products, is “The Spectrum Sings” printed along the hexagonal barrel of this pencil. I’m afraid I’m missing the relevance of it being printed on the barrel, why not the pigment name?
