Game and the perfect love letter to all TMNT fans. This review and review will focus on how the game performs as a Sega Genesis title, with the exception of a brief comparison at the end.

Story: After the fall of Mr. X, Shredder and the Kraang take over the city. They challenge the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to try and stop them!
Each character has their own unique moves and stats. Some are fast and weak, some are strong and slow, and some are more balanced (Leo fits the description of “balanced” perfectly). Players can also choose the same character!
Options: You can set the number of lives to 9 and you can choose the difficulty from easy to mania (total number of difficulty options). There is also a Turbo option that can be enabled or disabled in the Settings menu. This seems to affect the speed at which your attacks connect with the enemy.
Xbox Series X/s Review: Amnesia: The Bunker
, you must fight your way through 8 stages of Beat ’em up action on your way to face Shredder and Krang. Each stage ends with a boss fight.
Control: A Performs your special move that consumes a small portion of your health if it connects with enemies. B is your standard weapon attack; Keep pressing it to perform a combo. C jumps. Pressing B+C (if using a 6-button controller) will perform a “rising” attack. Towards Pressing Towards moves your character. While running, pressing the B button performs a dash attack. If you get close to an enemy, you’ll automatically grab them. Pressing Left or Right + B will throw him; Pressing up or down + B performs a grounding strike.
Items: Money bags, gold bars, pizza slices and weapons can be found by hitting barrels in the game. Money bags and gold bars increase your high score; Extra lives get some points. There are two variations of pizza slices, small (minor health restored) and large (significant health restored). Weapons, including knives and pipes, may not be carried; You can pick them up in no time though, but they bounce off your hands and onto the ground (and the turtles probably can’t see them as well as their own weapons!)
Enemies: Foot soldiers with different colors and abilities will attack you throughout the game! Get ready to fight the Foot Clan with knives, whips and even motorcycles! You’ll also battle Stone Warriors, Mausers, and Roadkill Rodneys from Shredder and Krang’s armies!

A brief comparison with the Nintendo Switch version: The Switch version is superior in terms of graphics, sound, player count, and all other metrics used to score video games. The Switch version is longer, has more bosses, options, stages, moves, etc. The Switch version is widescreen (16:9), while the Sega Genesis version is standard (4:3). The Genesis version has bigger characters on the screen than the Switch version. The Genesis version uses some of the sounds, music and other sound effects from the Switch version.
Ge is an amazing mod for an already great game. Personally, it probably speaks more to my age and gaming experience that I prefer this Sega Genesis game to the Nintendo Switch version; I have no doubt that I will be playing it more often than its better competitor. Is the Genesis version better than the Switch version? of course not! It’s not even close.
Still… there’s something about playing Shredder’s Re-Revenge (on cartridge, not emulator) that might appeal to some gamers on modern consoles like the Nintendo Switch. The game itself is completely manageable, almost the perfect length (not too long or too short) and easily beat by lowering the difficulty (while wanting to challenge you to higher difficulties). The characters in the game are beautiful to look at (thanks to the hard work of the original game designers).
So what makes the difference? I guess for me it boils down to this: I prefer the Genesis version because it’s not too busy, and that’s a good thing. No openables. The game does not save. No updates. A maximum of two players keeps things simple. Online is not an option. Unlike the 4:3 widescreen aspect ratio, the action remains more limited and tight. Sometimes I think less is more (at least for some of us). For these reasons, I would give the original game an A+, but also the Sega Genesis mod, Shredder’s Re-Revenge, an A+. Quick Story: Joe Yabuki is a young boxer trying to rise through the ranks, defeat his opponents and become the world champion. Between stages, the text description moves the story forward and tells you what Joe is doing and who he’s looking for next.
High score table: ten places. You have to win over 100,000 to get to the table and that takes practice! If you have a Neo Geo console with Unibios installed (3.2 or later, I believe), you can save your highscores.

The 10 “stages” in total are a combination of short side-scrolling sections against multiple villains and one-off boxing matches against your boxing rivals. You have three “health bars”. Every time you take a hit, you lose some health, and every time the bar falls, you hit the mat (or the ground). Drop three times and it’s game over. You can pick up from the last opponent or scene where you left off, or choose not to save your progress to the memory card.
Only the A and B buttons are used, and pressing them with a combination of joystick instructions will unleash another punch or other boxing moves. With these different combos, Joe can perform combos (swinging), blocks, throws, uppercuts, crosses, and body slams. Different opponents are vulnerable to different types of attacks, so learning their damage is key to success. A handy “How to Play” screen plays before you start, showing you different punches and defensive moves.

For other Neo Geo games. More than anything, I love big, colorful boxers and backgrounds. But at the end of the day, yeah, the graphics aren’t what you’d expect from a Neo Geo game, and the animation frames are a bit sloppy.

I can easily see someone getting frustrated and giving up on the game before they learn this system, but once you learn it, it’s easy to enjoy and not as complicated as you first thought. Much of the game is about learning how to time your opponent’s moves, how to react appropriately to Joe’s defensive moves, and what type of punches work best on individual opponents. Big Tip – Learn the SWAY move and use it often, it’s the key to defeating many opponents.
