RT @ArrowFilmsVideo: Summer is coming, so hit the video store with Wing Chun, seafaring tales, a lighthouse, hard-hitting yakuza action and… Is it too early to think about Halloween? Absolutely! And LEGO is here to help us get into the (ahem) spirit of things with a new BrickHeadz set. But is this a seasonal deal or a hint of something more substantial to come? Say hello to 40422 BrickHeadz: Frankenstein, #111 in the BrickHeadz Collection. This 108-piece set doesn’t have an official price or release date yet, but it will likely match the $9.99 price tag of the rest of the line. What secrets does this set hold? Keep reading and you will see!

Review: Fantastic Food, Delicious Desserts, And Terrifyingly Bad Beverages At Classic Monsters Cafe For Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights 30

The front and back of the packaging are pretty standard, showing Frankie from the front and attached to the display base of him. And, yes, this set should probably be called “Frankenstein’s Monster” and not just “Frankenstein.” Normally, I’d just point you to the now-canon XKCD strip that makes it totally normal to call him Frankenstein and get on with your life. But I can not. Because? Because this isn’t just a public domain Frankenstein…

This Frankenstein is part of a new Universal Monsters theme! Sadly, there’s no hint on the packaging or instruction booklet as to whether there will be more BrickHeadz in this lineup or if we’ll see Universal Monsters appear in other LEGO forms. But we can wait, right?

Inside the box are three bags of parts, a loose 6×6 board, and the instruction manual. The booklet is folded in half to fit in the box, so there is no way to escape that fold.

Like most BrickHeadz, there are several exclusive printed pieces to up the collectible factor. In this case, we get a 2×4 face tile with Frankie’s signature stitches, two shadowy eyes printed in semicircle tiles, and a tall 1×2 brick with a coat motif. Also noteworthy are some 1×1 round plates in shiny silver that will serve as bolts on the neck. You will also receive a spare for both the eye and the 1×1 round. Bonuses!

Unfortunately, we don’t have a tile with the character’s name printed on it like we did in the past. It would have been nice to have a Universal Monsters logo tile.

There is nothing unusual in the construction; In addition to the sloping 1×2 tiles used to make the arch of the brow, Frankie has a standard swamp BrickHeadz build. That’s not to say there isn’t some fun. Lurking beneath the dark tresses are some funky colors. I found it quite amusing that there was a bit of sand green in use in the interior, after all, it’s a more “traditional” color for this monster. But this is the Frankenstein of the black-and-white movie era, so a grayscale exterior was a must.

Overall this is a very cool looking display piece. Frankie’s head is taller than a standard BrickHeadz figure, but not comically tall. Even the monochrome look keeps things classy, with the silver screws and stitching adding a pop to the various shades of gray.

Halloween is a big event at my house and this little guy will be the center of our decorations this year. I like the choice to go with a “silver screen” look that harkens back to the creature’s earliest film appearances. All the printed items look great and the rest of the parts would be useful for someone just looking for a parts pack. (Although the value of that could change if they raise the price above standard on this one.) Being the first (and possibly only) Universal Monsters BrickHeadz will probably help the collectible factor for this set as well.
