I’ve been testing TCL’s latest 6 Series TV for about a month now, and I’m really enjoying the experience so far.
TCL has been a Chinese manufacturer of consumer technology for nearly 40 years. They introduced the world’s first TV with Roku operating system in 2014.
By 2022, they are the second largest manufacturer of LCD TVs in the world (after Samsung and tied with LG).
I have a TCL 6 series TV in my living room since 2018. TCL is sticking with the Series 6 name for this model, using only the updated year as the designator. The model I am reviewing today is the 6 Series (2022), as it was released in late 2022. You can find it at tclusa.com or from Amazon or Best Buy.
Good As Oled In 2020
Later this year, TCL’s next TVs will be called S-series (entry-level and mid-range models) and Q-series (high-end models).
The Series 6 (2022) comes in a 55-inch size for $699.99. Other models include the 65-inch ($999.99), 75-inch ($1,499.99), and 85-inch ($1,999.99). I reviewed the 65 inch version (65R655).
My review set is a smart TV running Roku OS, but TCL also makes a version of the Series 6 with Google TVOS.

The panel has a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels with Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and a variable refresh rate of up to 144Hz. It can display up to 1.07 billion colors.

Audio features include Dolby Atmos support for immersive sound. The built-in speakers aren’t cutting edge and aren’t award-winning.
We placed our TV in a corner and the sound was thin when using the built-in speakers. Fortunately, we have a TCL Alto 7 sound bar with a wireless subwoofer and it sounds great.
The previous 6 Series TVs had stands located at the bottom of the set. Our TV cabinet wasn’t wide enough, so I had to buy a center stand. The design of the 2022 model has been changed to include a central stand with two height adjustments. A high setting increases the screen enough that an audio bar sits below the screen.
