Otherwise, battery life remains the same at 10 hours. There’s no Face ID, but for a cheap tablet, it’s hard to fault how well it works.

The best of the Amazon Fire tablet range, the Amazon Fire HD 10 Plus may not be cheap, but it offers a lot for the price. It has a 10.1-inch display with a 1920 x 1200 resolution, which we found great for watching movies or videos on the go — and it sounds pretty good with decent stereo speakers.
Battery life is around 12 hours, so you don’t have to worry about finding a power source too often. Elsewhere, you’ve got a choice of 32GB or 64GB of storage depending on your budget, plus you can go for wireless charging for added convenience, and its lightweight build means it’s perfect for extended use. We found the chipset and cameras to be a bit basic, but overall it packs a lot for the price.
The Amazon Fire HD 8 Plus is basically the Amazon Fire HD 8 (2020), but slightly better, so it’s no surprise that it’s one of the best cheap tablets out there. It has more RAM at 3GB, supports wireless charging (so you can use it with an optional dock that brings it closer to the Echo Show), and comes with a faster charger than the standard Fire HD 8.
Other than that, it’s the same as its cheaper sibling. But that alone makes the Amazon Fire HD 8 faster than the previous generation, as well as giving you more storage to play with.

The Amazon Fire HD 8 Plus still isn’t the fastest slate in our test, but it holds its own for the price, and it’s a great choice if you want a tablet and a smart display — although for a tablet you might consider the standard Fire HD 8 (2020). .
With a decent-sized screen and 1920 x 1200 resolution, the Amazon Fire HD 10 (2021) is ideal for watching movies while relaxing. That’s really its biggest strength, as we’ve seen it slow down at times when running basically any kind of software, and while an improvement over the previous model, its rear camera is still only 5MP. Still, for messing around with friends, it will do.
There’s no wireless charging but you wouldn’t really expect that from such a cheap tablet. Given how cheap this slate actually is, it still offers a lot for your money, with great battery life, so no matter where you are, you can marathon a movie without half charging it. It’s not one for power users, but we don’t expect it to be.
The Amazon Fire HD 8 (2020) is 30% faster than its predecessor, has double the storage, slightly better battery life and finally moves to USB-C (the previous model used micro USB), but it’s pretty much the same.

If you’re looking for an Android iPad competitor on a budget, this is the slate you should consider. Google’s Android operating system offers plenty of flexibility, with a large HD display, the Tab A 10.5 is great for movies and web browsing.
It also benefits from long battery life in our experience, so you can indulge in a movie marathon. It’s not the most powerful slate, and we found that its size makes it a little less portable, and overall we’d give it the edge over Apple’s cheaper iPads, but it’s a solid choice for media and basic app use around the house.
