This device is like a small Wi-Fi router and is not battery operated. It creates a Wi-Fi hotspot that multiple phones, laptops and iPads can connect to simultaneously. However, this device uses the same 4G network as your phone, rather than using your landline to access the Internet.

Currently, Three does not sell a 5G MiFi device, nor does it sell any mobile broadband dongles that plug directly into your computer. Huawei 4G Plus is the three MiFi router or dongle currently offered.
Three’s MiFi device will arrive the next working day of your order, unless you order in the evening. It ships inside a small box.
The first step is to remove the back cover from the MiFi device. It attaches with several plastic clips located on the edge of the case. To remove the cover, there is a small gap in one corner where you can inspect.
First, remove the SIM card from its packaging and then push it out of the holder. You need a micro SIM, which is green (second largest).

The SIM card slot has a small metal flap that you need to lift. You can then place the SIM card into its slot, with the cut-out corner facing the bottom right. There is also a marking on the device that shows which way the SIM card goes.
Note that the SIM card does not click into place. Instead, a metal flap slides down to secure. If the metal doesn’t move easily, don’t force it down – it means the sim needs to move a bit.
Now it is very easy for you to insert the battery. Line it up with the four gold bits on the top right, then slot into it.
At this point, you can return the cover to the 4G Plus MiFi router. It snaps into place very easily – make sure you push it all the way in – you’ll hear it click into place. Also make sure you return it properly. If it doesn’t click into place easily, try rotating the cover 180 degrees.

Now that the SIM card and battery are in place, you can turn on the MiFi device. The kit ships three with a small charge on the battery, so you don’t have to worry about charging the device before you start using it.
The first thing to do is hold down the big power button at the top until the three lights turn green. If the 4G network light on the left doesn’t come on first, it means you don’t have a good 4G signal yet.
If you search for a new Wi-Fi network on your laptop or phone, your 3 MiFi device will appear as a network starting with “3Mobile Wi-Fi”. Then, you need to enter the password displayed inside the device or on your Wi-Fi Keepsake card.
Alternatively, you can also scan the QR code on the Keepsake card with your phone to instantly connect to a Wi-Fi network.

Three companies currently offer their MiFi device with different mobile broadband data deals, with different contract lengths.
Each combination of the above contracts and data deals is available. For example, if you want, you can get unlimited data on a one-month contract. Otherwise, you’ll get 40GB on a 24-month paid contract.
We must say that it would be nice to have more choices in terms of the different data bundles available. For example, if you think you need 100GB of data, you’ll have to go for an unlimited data plan instead, as the 100GB deal is no longer available.

Typically, a Three MiFi device costs between £13 and £26 per month, depending on the amount of data you get and the length of the contract. Free shipping is included with every deal.
Three pre-cost some of your wages when you go for MiFi deals. While their pay monthly contracts usually have no upfront cost, you can expect to pay up to £39 per recipient when you sign up.
It is important to note that your monthly expenses will increase by 4.5% every year, regardless of which contract you choose. So, if you sign a 12- or 24-month contract, some of your future payments will be higher than your current payments.
Also, Three’s pricing assumes you use Direct Debit or another payment method. If you don’t, the cost will be £5 more per month.

You want to make sure your address has the best indoor and outdoor 4G speeds. If you have good 4G coverage, you can get speeds of 15-50Mbps depending on where the nearest mast is.
If you only get a 3G signal where you live, you can still use three mobile Wi-Fi. However, you’ll only get download speeds of 3-5Mbps, which is quite slow.
If you’re considering using mobile broadband to get online, it’s probably because you want to travel with the device.

This MiFi router has some limitations. It is not designed to connect a large number of devices at the same time. Also, the Wi-Fi range is very short, only 10 meters.
If you decide to purchase this product, make sure you have top three mobile broadband coverage at your address, including indoors. If you don’t have a good 4G signal where you live, you’ll only get 5Mbps, which is quite slow.

If you want to use 4G internet as your primary method of getting online at home, it’s worth considering a triple 4G hub or 5G hub router.
These bits of kit act like a MiFi device, creating a Wi-Fi hotspot. However, they plug into the wall rather than being battery operated, meaning they are less portable. But because they’re bigger, they can handle more devices connecting together (in this case up to 64) like a regular Wi-Fi router.
