The amazing LG C2 Evo OLED offers one of the best pictures we’ve seen on a TV, with near-cinematic-perfect colors out of the box, as well as very low data consumption for gamers.

The LG C2 Evo OLED TV is an impressive follow-up to the company’s class-leading C1 that we reviewed in 2021. Simply put, the LG C2 offers the best color accuracy we’ve seen out of the box without correction. It also has the lowest input loss we’ve tested on a TV, and it has useful features like Apple AirPlay and hands-free access to several audio accessories. LG’s WebOS system is still difficult to navigate, but that’s our only complaint about the flagship player. The 65-inch model we tested is priced at $2,499.99, but the LG C2 Evo still earns our Editors’ Choice award for OLED TVs.

C2 is smoother and smaller than C1. The panel is still bezel-less, with a thin strip of gray metal running around the edges and a black border of less than a quarter of an inch between it and the active portion of the screen. The panel itself is also very thin at about a quarter of an inch, although the rectangular enclosure for the electronic components behind the screen expands to a thickness of 1.8 inches. The C2 sits on a rectangular gray metal stand that is slightly thinner than the C1, but still holds the screen firmly. You can also mount the TV on the wall with a standard VESA mount.

All connections, except for the permanently attached power cable that extends from the bottom center, stay on the left side of the fence area and the left face. It includes four HDMI ports (one eARC), three USB ports, an Ethernet port, an optical audio input, an antenna/cable connector and a 3.5mm port for RS-232C control and an IR blaster. A fully attached power cable is frustrating, as the cable is very vulnerable and we always prefer the ability to change it easily (or just use a longer or shorter cable as needed).

The remote is the same curved, black, buttoned stick we’ve seen on previous LG TVs, and it works perfectly if it’s a little messy. The remote has a large circular scroll pad with a clickable scroll wheel in the middle that doubles as a confirmation button. Fortunately, the wheel tension is very stable, so you probably won’t accidentally spin it when you want to click it. The number pad, volume rocker and channel rocker are located above the navigation pad. Dedicated service buttons for Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, LG Channels and Netflix, as well as additional buttons for Alexa and Google Assistant are all located below the navigation pad. The remote also has an accelerometer that lets you use it to control the screen selector.

WebOS 22 is the latest iteration of LG’s smart platform, and includes many robust features and software options. It has all the popular streaming services like Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Disney+, HBO Max, Netflix, YouTube, and even Twitch; the only major omission is Crunchyroll. WebOS also features a fully functional web browser with remote, quiet, and art modes and a dashboard that connects LG smart devices and other compatible devices. This system supports Apple AirPlay and Miracast/WiDi, but not Google Cast.

LG’s built-in voice assistant allows you to directly control the TV and any other smart home device; otherwise, you can access Alexa or Google Assistant for more features. The C2 has a far-field microphone array that provides hands-free voice assistant access, though only for Alexa and LG. The hands-free Google Assistant app isn’t supported on the C2, so you’ll need to use the remote.

Although it offers a lot of features, WebOS 22 still feels clunky and clunky. The interface is sometimes slow to respond to remote input, especially when switching between apps and the home screen. As usual with LG, the TV’s settings are buried a layer or two deeper than most other TVs. For example, the settings button on the remote control and the WebOS home screen simply opens a menu of quick options for common adjustments. You can edit the menu to show different settings, but even so, the options are limited. For what it’s worth, this is the same complaint we had with WebOS on the C1, and it doesn’t detract from the TV’s excellent performance.

The LG C2 is a 4K TV with a 120Hz refresh rate. Can display high frequency content (HDR) in Dolby Vision, HDR10 and mixed log gamma (HLG)

We tested the TV using a Klein K-80 colorimeter(Opens in a new window), a Murideo SIX-G signal generator (Opens in a new window) and CalMan Portrait Display software (Opens in a new window) with a test method based on Imaging Science Foundation calibration method ( Opens in a new window).

The 2 Best 4k Tvs On A Budget Of 2023

The color performance of the C2 is almost perfect. The chart above shows the TV color values measured for SDR signals in ISF Calibrated (Bright) mode compared to Rec.709 broadcast standard and HDR signals in Cinema mode compared to DCI digital cinema standard- P3. It reaches Rec.709 values in time, which is very good, but also a modest achievement for most TVs. The biggest surprise is the DCI-P3 performance.

Out of the box, the C2 accurately covers the entire color space of digital cinema, without color drifting any significant amount off target. Few TVs come close to this level of performance, but they tend to have some sort of flaw—the C1’s magentas run warm and the TCL 6-Series’ yellows are undersaturated, for example. The C2’s colors are as good as we see on consumer TVs. Until TVs begin to achieve the wider Rec.2020 color space (which consumer content is not yet familiar with), C2 is the gold standard for home theater television accuracy without calibration.

Looks good on C2. Green vegetation and blue sky and water all look different, beautiful and natural. Fine details like fur and bark are easy to see in bright light and shadow. However, horizontal pans tend to look a little off on TVs in Cinema mode and default settings. I hate to admit it, but you might want to consider turning on the TruMotion smoothing feature and setting it to Movie Motion or Natural Options to reduce judgment; nor does it cause the soap opera effect that a smoothing setting can produce.

Also looks good on C2. Deadpool’s red costume is very full and instant in the opening scene, and has no purple flavor. The fire is burning
