Update Star Wars Clone Wars Pop Review – It’s time to check out Funko’s third vinyl figure: Darth Maul Rebels from the Rebels-inspired Smuggler’s Bounty Crate. Sorry for the spoiler, but Darth Maul is still alive and kicking the rebels. Well, that was the last time I saw him. Who knows what has changed lately? Anyway, I’ve always had a thing for Darth Maul stuff, and I was pretty excited when I found out it was going to be in the crate. Let’s check him out, shall we? More Darth Maulness after the break…

Non-Scalper Price: $25 as part of the March Smugglers Bounty Crate, which includes 1 other POP! Vinyl, Chopper Hikari Mini, T-shirt, Pin and Patch.

* This is a very creepy POP! Vinyl. Not as creepy as Twisty, but still a little unsettling for such big yellow eyes. The work on the face tattoos and horns is amazing. A lot of companies always have trouble making these look neat and clean, but Funko did an incredible job here!

Star Wars Unveils The Clone Wars Season 7 Funkos For Ahsoka, Darth Maul & More

* The body is very well maintained. I dig the heavy duty boots and the shirtless look of the maul. Having been a fan of Maul since I was in 9th grade when the episode came out, I’m excited for the character’s longevity, even if it was halved to begin with! Maul’s chest tattoos, once only an Expanded Universe concept, are now fully canon (although they were done early in The Clone Wars).

* From the back, you can see again how nice and clean the paint job is here. Funko really did a great job with the Smugglers Bounty specials and March 2017 is one of the strongest sets for this subscription series.

* I love the evil look of Maul’s lightsaber. It’s pretty cool as it keeps the double blade of your classic double bladed lightsaber but adds a few extra things to the grip.

* Like other Star Wars POP! Vinyls has a Darth Maul display stand. It’s a simple black stand with foot screws and a silver printed Star Wars logo, but I love the look and consistency across the line.

Star Wars Unveils New The Clone Wars Funko Pops! With Two Exclusives

Darth Maul is another great 1/2 POP! Vinyl. Funko really has these down to a science, but when you’re putting more and more cool Star Wars figures on the shelf, it’s hard to argue with their methods. Maul has a very nice sculpt and impressive painting. I’m really happy with how neat and clean the lines are on her face and body tattoos. The Rebel Smugglers Bounty Box is probably the best Funko release to date, and Maul is a big part of that awesomeness.

If you’re interested in Darth Maul, I’ve reviewed some of his other figures, including the Black Series Darth Maul, Star Wars: The Clone Wars Final Season, Hero Mashers Spider Darth Maul and Sith Speeder, and the Darth Maul Kit . Many fans were surprised but shocked by the lack of collections. Companies have heeded the call as we finally start getting some new and updated characters and designs from the final season. We’ve already seen some new Clone Wars Black Series Hot Toys and now it’s time for some new Funko Pops. Star Wars: The Clone Wars is finally kicking off and it’s going to be a fan favorite with some surprise guests. A total of 7 pops are included in this wave, of which 5 were shared and 2 were exclusive to retail. We start off with the main girl, Ashoka Tano, showing off her new look and lightsabers. We bring back Darth Maul with his dual blades ready for action. We then get our first look at Bad Batch Clone Trooper Wrecker’s unique armor. Along with the animated series The Bad Batch, it’s a must-order for any Star Wars fan. Then Funko takes us to Siege of Mandalore with goodies like Bo Katan in his Mandalorian outfit. I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of his undisguised pop design in the future, and for Star Wars speculators, his rumored appearance in The Mandalorian Season 2 is a good incentive to persevere. Some of Darth Maul’s Mando soldiers are with Gar Saxon in this wave and in all their glory. There will also be another version of Super Commando with different Mandalorian armor that will be exclusive to the Funko Shop. Finally, Ahsoka Tano gets a second crack at this Star Wars wave with a mechanic outfit that fans are sure to love.

Most Star Wars: The Clone Wars pops are now available for pre-order and can be found here. With a lot of Star Wars hype lately, it’s nice to pick up some of these pops because not many places have plans like this yet. With characters like Bo Katan and Wrecker returning in new shows, they could be worth $12. Don’t miss these shows before the Star Wars season kicks off with The Mandalorian Season 2 opening in late October.

“The colors of the Pops had to feel like they properly represented the animation they were performing,” says Funko Senior Product Designer Reese O’Brien, “and we went through a lot of different weathering techniques, paint wipes, and dry brush techniques.” But in the last round everything came together and ‘That’s it.’ !’ always fun to watch.

Star Wars: Clone Wars

The new series is all new Pop! Bobblehead statues of Ahsoka and Maul, as well as never-before-seen characters in Funko form, including the fierce warriors of Clone Force 99 and the Mandalorian warrior Bo-Katan. Designers have created standard Mandalorian armor for previous projects, but O’Brien says this series is different. “The subtle—but extremely important—differences in the Mandalorian helmets and armor took a lot of tweaking to get right,” he says. “Mandalorian helmets are deceptively simple. For example, if you raise the corners of the eye too much, you can throw it all away. And the shapes and proportions of the headdress transform it into classic pop! Head shaping is never an easy task. So, in the end, we feel like a victory every time.

Here’s a closer look at each piece in the series, with O’Brien’s insights on each character and figure.

For this series, the design team aimed to make Pop! Figures to better replicate the tension surrounding the characters at the end of The Clone Wars. “We wanted her to feel the spiraling tension, like she’s in danger and ready to attack,” O’Brien says of pretty Jedi Ahsoka Tano when she appears during the siege of the Mandalore ark.

The new series features a more relaxed version of Anakin Skywalker’s former padawan as he explores the depths of Coruscant and meets the Martez sisters. “This Ashoka had yet to suffer
