When it comes to premium smart TVs, Sony is mind-blowing with its luxury Bravia TV lineup. Whether regular LED TVs or highly desirable OLED TVs, a visual feast is guaranteed every time you turn on the TV. In the premium space, competition has heated up lately and many brands are opting for advanced panel technologies such as QLED and OLED. In fact, for just Rs. For 1 lakh, you can reward yourself with 55 inch OLED TVs from Xiaomi or LG or get QLED TVs from Samsung, Xiaomi and TCL.

That’s why we have the Bravia X80K 65, a big 65 inch smart TV with all the features of Sony to impress consumers. Now unlike Xiaomi and Samsung TVs at this price point Sony is sticking to the LED panel. Considering the premium you have to pay for this 65-inch model – Rs. 124990; Expectations are higher than ever, especially since this is a Sony TV. Is it good?
High-end Bravia TVs always look stylish and modern; With its sharp edges and black frames, it looks like something straight out of a sci-fi movie. The Bravia X80K 65 welcomes you in a frameless design that is becoming increasingly popular with competing brands these days. The bezels are pretty thin for an LED TV, and the lower jaw has the traditional Sony light bar status light. The rear also has a solid construction that allows easy access to the I/O ports, even when wall-mounted.
The ports collection includes three HDMI ports (one with eARC, two with ALLM), an Ethernet port, a digital audio output, several USB-C ports and a few more. You also get a modern remote with all the buttons you need to operate a smart TV, but you’re missing the channel keys and other buttons we’ve seen on older TV remotes. Unfortunately, it’s an IR remote, so whenever you want to change something, you have to point it at the TV.
This is where the Bravia X80K 65 dominates for a LET backlit TV. I had reservations about the viewing experience from an expensive LED TV, especially since I had a Xiaomi OLED Vision TV in the other room and I came from a TCL QLED TV. However, for a minute or two, I was fascinated by the television. It is a 4K 60Hz panel that supports Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG formats. As a 65-inch panel, I was pleasantly surprised by the impressive high quality and all the color management and processing.

The main reason for this is the X1 processor that Sony uses in the Bravia X80K 65. Paired with 4K X-Reality Pro and Triluminous Pro, the TV can approach and sometimes match the contrast and sharpness of QLED TVs. times. Premium performance is excellent with standard definition content and the TV maintains excellent color vibrancy. DirectLED backlighting keeps light bleed under control, but local dimming performance could be better – dark areas show a halo of light effect. With an LCD panel on the back, blacks look mostly gray. The overall picture quality is good in standard mode, and you can improve this further with various picture modes.
When displaying HDR10 and Dolby Vision content, the panel performed as expected. For example, in Marvel’s Loki on Disney+ Hotstar, the picture mode is Dolby Vision Bright by default, and you can choose a slightly dimmer “Dolby Vision Dark” mode. No matter which mode you choose, the image quality and color reproduction are excellent – no complaints here. The same was true for HDR10 content on Amazon Prime, which looked as good as expected.
Although the panel has a refresh rate of 60 Hz by default, there is Motion Smoothing (MEMC) that softens the content. In fact, I stopped moving smoothly and watching F1 races or cricket matches was a pleasure. I couldn’t test the gaming performance of this TV as I don’t own a Sony PS5 or any other game console. The presence of an automatic brightness sensor helps keep the eyes comfortable.
In short, it may be an LED TV, but the image processing and upscaling can make up for the shortcomings of the LED panel. Yes, blacks are not true blacks in dark scenes and contrast performance is lower than OLED TVs. You can see random blacks and grays – this is where QLED and OLED TVs have a big advantage.

While the viewing experience is great, the same cannot be said for the audio. For such a large TV, I was disappointed to see two 10W speakers tasked with the audio requirements. The speakers are assisted by bass reflectors, which offer some low-quality grunts. In fact, the Bravia X80K 65’s audio performance is good in every respect. The soundstage is narrow, but there is some emphasis on the low end. Due to the lack of a subwoofer, you miss out on the rich low end. For regular TV watching and watching web shows, the speaker system will be great. But for movies you need a special soundbar system.
Sony equips the Bravia X80K65 with far-field microphones that enable hands-free Google Assistant. Microphones work well in a small bedroom and can even pick up wake-up commands while talking to some guests. For those concerned with privacy, you use the scroll keys to disable microphones when not needed. The TV also has an acoustic auto-calibration that can adjust the sound output according to the layout of the room.
Sony may be the only brand in the Indian TV market to use the Google TV interface. The recently launched Google TV interface is a modern take on Android TV and focuses more on content with a tasteful UI design and easy navigation. It looks impressive compared to the basic Android TV interfaces you see on Xiaomi TVs or TCL TVs. Unfortunately, it’s based on the old Android TV 10 operating system, which means Sony has to update it to the new Android TV 11 operating system that’s available on TVs from competing brands at this price.
The interface works smoothly thanks to additional RAM and powerful Sony processor. As such, the TV has always remained cool and smooth throughout my use. The Google TV interface offers content recommendations from various installed OTT apps, and the recommendations change every few days. Unlike Xiaomi TVs, you can change the picture and sound settings while playing content in the background.
Sony Bravia X80k 65 Review: Impresses With Its Picture Quality
QLED and OLED TVs with Rs. The 1 lakh segment these days is a bit hard to justify the Sony Bravia X80K 65. The panel performance for a 65 inch LED TV is excellent and it’s easy to watch Dolby Vision content on this TV. The presence of a sleek and fast Google TV interface impresses on the elegance front, while the minimalist Sony design definitely adds to the room decor. But this is where the Bravia X80K 65 lacks good features.
Audio performance on the Bravia X80K 65 is average and you will need a soundbar system to optimize the sound output. The TV runs on the old Android TV 10 operating system, which is not fair for such a premium TV. The controller is IR only, which adds to the inconvenience. Finally, the ₹1.25 lakh price tag can get you a 55 inch OLED TV or a larger QLED TV from Xiaomi, Samsung and TCL – all of which offer better picture performance and better sound performance.
So, Sony Bravia X80K at Rs.65. If you’re just a Sony loyalist of 1.25 lakh, opt for the brand’s picture setting, look for a 65 inch TV and experience Google TV.
