The Galaxy A51 actually looks the same as the Galaxy A71, but has a smaller size. It has a smaller Infinity-O display with no curves on either side of the screen. There’s also an in-display optical fingerprint sensor, response time was good. Similar to the A71, it also lacks haptic feedback.

The back is also made of plastic, but has a rhythmic pattern that looks quite unique. Unlike the Galaxy A71, the A51 is powered by a 10nm Exynos 9611 processor with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, which is a minor upgrade over its predecessor. Performance-wise, the phone plays Call of Duty: Mobile pretty well at medium graphics settings and high framerate. But it doesn’t feel as smooth as its big brother A71.
The phone has the same software experience as the Galaxy A71 running Android 10-based One UI 2.0. The overall user experience is pretty similar to the Note10 Lite we reviewed earlier, though the S Pen features are lacking. When it comes to the design of the A51, you won’t see any cost-cutting measures, despite its price. It may not push the boundaries of smartphone engineering, but the A51 is as good-looking as any other smartphone.
Samsung Galaxy A51 Review: A Minor Change To The Mid Range
The black model submitted for my review may look modest at first, but upon closer inspection, I see a thin pearlescent coating on the back of the phone, just like the Galaxy S20. Its slightly curved edges and slim dimensions (it’s only 7.9mm thick) ensure that the phone fits well in the hand.
Like other versions from Samsung, there’s a vertical rectangle in the upper left corner of the back that houses the quad camera array. The A51 also has a large 6.5-inch notch display with thin side bezels and a 3.5mm headphone jack located next to the USB-C port on the bottom edge. There is no official IP rating for protection against dust or water, but the screen is protected by a layer of Gorilla Glass.
Here’s Samsung’s ‘Infinity-O’ display, if you look beyond the marketing jargon, it means the Super AMOLED display uses a circular punch for the selfie camera. There’s also an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor placed at the bottom of the screen, which can be used for mobile payments and the like.
The image quality of the A51’s FHD+ (2,400 x 1,080) display is good for its price. There are two display modes to choose from, but I found the “Normal” setting to be the most accurate color, with an average Delta E of 1.82. Likewise, if you prefer the screens of your phone with the color intensity set to the maximum, you will feel at home with the “Vivid” setting of the phone.

Using our colorimeter, I found that the Galaxy A51 covers 99% of the sRGB color gamut in “Normal” mode, with an overall volume of 113%. The contrast is excellent and the screen is also quite bright, thanks to the display’s AMOLED panel. I measured a maximum brightness of 478 cd/m² with auto brightness on and with a flashlight pointed directly at the ambient light sensor to simulate brighter outdoor lighting.
