You can rename boxes by double-clicking on their names and stack them by dragging one box on top of another. This creates sub-networks that can help you organize.
To add music to a folder, you can simply navigate to your music in the Finder or Windows Explorer and drag it to the folder. Alternatively, you can use Serato’s internal navigation by clicking on ‘Files’ and dragging tracks into the box.
Using iTunes with Serato couldn’t be easier. Just click on the device icon to access Settings, then go to the library and view the settings. You will see “Show iTunes Library” option.
Check this option to display your iTunes library above the drawer section of Serato DJ. Please note that Serato will need to restart before any changes to your iTunes library will appear, so do not add playlists to your iTunes while Serato is running.
The Best Dj Controller For Serato
A recent addition to Serato, the integration of streaming platforms Tidal and Soundcloud Go, allows DJs to play tracks from both services. You will need a valid license with both sites to access music in Serato. To connect to your software, go to Library and see Settings, then log in to your web service account.
After you sign in, your lists will appear in the boxes above. You can add playlists made in Soundcloud or Tidal website and app. Please note that you cannot drag Soundcloud or Tidal tracks to other boxes. You also can’t record your mix while using streaming tracks, and at the time of writing, you need to be connected to the internet at all times to play. There is no offline way to save songs from streaming services.
Once your tracks have been loaded into your Serato library using one of the methods above, you’ll need to analyze them. Track analysis provides important information about the track such as volume, BPM and key.
When you play a song for the first time in Serato, it will analyze it, but this can slow down your workflow while you wait for the BPM information to be displayed. That’s why we recommend you analyze your library before anything else.

All Serato DJ Lite tools open up the software for free and can be used with Serato DJ Pro if you decide to purchase a license. Serato DJ Pro can be used with 28 free controllers. These range from the recent Pioneer DJ DDJ-1000SRT to the older Vestax VCI-300.
Serato DJ Lite is compatible with DJ controllers only, however Serato DJ Pro comes free with 15 mixers including Numark Scratch and Pioneer DJM-S3. Eight additional tools are available with the purchase of a license code. These include the club-level Pioneer DJM 900 and the Allen & Heath XONE DB4.
Serato DJ Pro is compatible with four sound cards. These include the Rane SL2, SL3, SL4 and Denon DS-1, all of which unlock software and expandable DVS for free.
Serato DJ Pro is now compatible with two whole units, both of which are flagship devices. Pioneer DJ XDJ-XZ and Denon DJ Prime 4.

Serato DJ Pro works with 10 CDJ and Media players including Denon SC5000 and Pioneer CDJ2000, however these are only in HID mode. The players are considered a tool for Serato and as such can only be used to control Serato, not to reproduce. This means that a sound card, mixer or controller will need to be used with the CDJ player to output the sound and run the software. Learn how to set HID mode in this article.
As we mentioned earlier, 10 CDJ Media players can be used as tools to control virtual decks in Serato DJ Pro. In addition to these players, eight performance pad devices can also be used to control the software. These include the popular Pioneer DDJ-XP2 and Reloop Neon.
Serato DJ Lite and Serato DJ Pro both offer four modern decks complete with effects, performance modes and a sampler.
For beginners, Serato DJ Lite has six effects in two banks of three effects that can be combined. Serato DJ Pro also has two effect banks, which can be stored in two banks of three effects, or switched to set and control effect parameters precisely. In DJ Pro the number of effects has been increased to 22, with expansion packs available exclusively to take the DJ up to 46 studio-quality effects.

Serato DJ Lite has basic pad modes including Hot Cue, Sampler and Loops. Special tools enable different modes such as the pad scrubbing mode of the Pioneer DJ DDJ SB3 and the pad effects of the Hercules DJ Control Starlight. However, these are specific to these controllers and are not available separately from the software.
Performance tools in Serato DJ Pro include Hot Cue, Roll, Sampler, Slicer, Jump Jump and Pitch Play (Pitch and Time expansion pack required). These modes require controllers or hardware to access, however it is possible for MIDI to map to other buttons.
Serato DJ Pro also allows users to map MIDI to connected devices if you want to change your controller or setup.
Serato DJ Pro includes a metering feature that will lock the DJ button to the beat. This tool can be adjusted from 1 beat to 1/16 beat to help the DJ stay in time when playing a hot call, loop or reverse. Connectivity is also available for DJs on all four floors with simple and complex modes.

Ableton Link is a system that connects music beats, tempos and stages to multiple applications running on one or more devices. Serato DJ Pro can sync its player decks to an Ableton project as long as the project is running on a computer on the same network. At the time of writing, there are over 190 applications compatible with Ableton Link, including other DJ applications such as Rekordbox, Virtual DJ and Traktor.
Serato Video brings video to your performances in Serato DJ Pro. With transitions, effects and video enhancements, Serato Video plays video files as well as audio, making DJ video presentations easy. The Serato Video Suite is available for $99 or as part of a subscription package, which includes each expansion pack for $9.99 per month.
DVS (Digital Vinyl System) allows users to control virtual decks with an external code, usually from a vinyl or CD. It was Serato’s early development of technology that led to the popularity of the software. DVS is unlocked for free with supporting hardware such as Rane SL sound cards or purchased separately for $99. A $9.99 monthly subscription is also available for all expansion packs.
