Update Samsung M31 6gb Ram 128gb Rom Review – A few weeks ago, Samsung launched its new M series phones in Nepal. Among them, Samsung M31 is an upgrade of Samsung M30 and M30s.

I have been using this device for over 3 weeks and I have already given my first impression of this device. Check first if you like. This is a continuation of my early experience and includes a detailed review of the M31.

The Samsung Galaxy M31 uses a plastic body and a glossy back. It has an AMOLED waterdrop display on the front.

The plastic construction looks like glass with a finish, but it really isn’t.

This particular review unit received scratches on the back during my use, but this is only noticeable upon close inspection. Therefore, I recommend that you use a case.

On the back, there is a quad-camera setup with a rectangular camera module next to an oval-shaped fingerprint sensor. The sides are curved into a frame, and the edges are also curved.

In front, the side bezels are thin, but the chin still stands out. The buttons are on the right side, while there is a tray for two SIM cards and one microsd.

At the bottom we have a headphone jack, a USB Type C port, a microphone and a speaker. For now, there is another microphone on top. In addition, the phone is neatly hidden right at the top of the cutout.

The plastic construction doesn’t look premium though. It feels durable and solid. But prone to scratches. Therefore, I would like the glass on the back that we see on the Redmi Note 8 Pro.

Ergonomically, I like the way it feels in the hand. It is not slippery and I can use it with my hand. But using one hand is not very convenient. You will have to get used to it.

The Samsung Galaxy M31 features a 6.4-inch 1080×2340 (FHD+) AMOLED display. This is a 60Hz panel with deep blacks and impressive color reproduction.

My first impression is that everything is the same. Colors are bright and contrast is high. It’s perfect for YouTube, Netflix and games.

The screen is impressive for media consumption. But, it’s not as bright under strong sunlight. If you want to take photos or watch content under strong sunlight, it will be a bit difficult.

Always on display as usual. You can customize it at some level. You can also select different color display modes. If you like a more natural tone, you can choose natural mode or use vivid mode. You can also adjust the warmth and make the color temperature brighter or warmer.

To be honest, I’ve never been a big fan of high resolution sensors. I think it’s great and all for capturing high detail, but I don’t find it really useful. After all, photos from our smartphones will only go to social networks.

So what we get with the Samsung Galaxy M31 is a 64MP main sensor with a 0.8µm pixel size. This is a fairly large sensor that helps the sensor reach more light. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy M31 takes nice photos. But in typical Samsung style, it still retains the same camera processing as other mid-range Samsung phones.

Images from the Samsung Galaxy M31’s 16-megapixel camera are very clear, and image processing ensures high contrast and saturation. The white balance it chooses is not necessarily the most accurate and will generally choose one that can bring out the colors in the scene.

The images are at a low ISO of 20, so the HDR is quite admirable. It manages to retain detail in darker areas without blowing out brighter areas. I like the brightness of the saved images, it’s a bit brighter than usual but it helps make the image stand out.

Moving on to the 64MP images, they obviously contain more detail. If you look at the images side by side, it becomes clear that the 48MP images have more detail. Images look flatter than 16-megapixels, colors are duller and more natural. And it doesn’t sharpen the image as much as it does with 16-megapixel images. Also, 48MP images have the lowest ISO of 40, which I think is done to balance out the inaccessibility of HDR.

To be fair, I prefer complex 16-megapixel images because they have great color and contrast. In addition, 16-megapixel images have a wider dynamic range and better exposure.

But it all comes down to personal preference, and you can stick with 48MP images if you want to tweak something in post. However, most of us won’t bother with this, so most of the time we’re better off sticking with stock 16MP images.

So how is the night mode? Well, that’s good. The first thing you should notice is that normal low light images don’t have good detail and are noisy. If this was done late at night, the pictures might even look out of focus. But in this case, the night mode helps. This reduces noise and makes the image more attractive.

Images taken in night mode are clearer and have better exposure. However, the M31’s low-light shots aren’t as good. However, I would recommend using night mode more often. Ultravide Angle Goodness Click to view the slideshow.

For the ultra wide camera, the M31’s 8MP sensor is the same as the M30s’ 8MP sensor. While I would have preferred a 12MP sensor, its 8MP sensor is pretty good during the day. Ultra-wide images retain the same color profile as the main high-contrast sensor.

The images look pretty sharp, but you will notice some noise around the edges. Also, it doesn’t work as well as the main sensor when it gets dark. But it happens in all phones.

Now when it comes to portrait photos, I’m impressed. Well, I don’t have many samples because I haven’t met many people because of the pandemic. But I’ve been impressed with what I’ve seen so far.

The effect of depth does not look artificial, and this is what I pay the most attention to in portrait photographs. Moving on, edge detection is pretty good, but certainly not perfect. He cut some parts of my hair, but he did a pretty good job with the glasses. I am very pleased with the results.

Last but not least, it also has a 5MP macro sensor, which is a good thing. You usually get 2MP macro sensors with phones other than the M31 in this category, so the extra detail makes the images more appealing. But the color profile is different from the main sensor, it’s dim and doesn’t look bright. Check out the samples below!

Now about the front camera, I like it. The 32 MP sensor takes good photos with good contrast. Details are also fine and HDR works really well. Your selfies will not be blurry even if there is a lot of light in the background.

Now focused live selfies are not so good. Edge detection is not very good. I had a really hard time with my hair. And the blur effect also looks artificial. But I liked how HDR was still able to keep glare under control.

The Samsung M31 supports 4K video recording, but there is no 60fps option even at 1080p. 4k video is crisp with good detail, but you lose digital stabilization in 4k, resulting in shaky video. Stabilization improves significantly down to 1080p, but fine detail is lost at 1080p.

The digital stabilization isn’t all that impressive, you’ll see a bit of distortion when it tries to stabilize the shot. It now has a super stable feature at 1080p, but it actually takes video from a wide-angle camera and crops it slightly to get stabilized video.

The Samsung Galaxy M31 has the same chipset as the Samsung M30s; Ekinos 9611. But it has the option to upgrade the RAM to 8GB as it comes in two configurations 6/128GB and 8/128GB.

The Ekinos 9611 is a good chipset, but not the best in its price range as I mentioned in my initial impression. It is built on a 10nm process and features an octa-core processor (4×2.3GHz Cortek-A73 and 4×1.7GHz Cortek-A53) along with a Mali-G72 MP3 GPU.

Following my initial impression, I ran some tests and played other games to see how it really performs. First, let’s look at the benchmarks.

Samsung Galaxy M31 Price In India Tipped To Start At Rs 15,999

Let’s start with GeekBench, the CPU benchmark. The Ekinos 9611 on the M31 performs reasonably well, scoring 347 in single-core and 1288 in multi-core. We compared it with Snapdragon 720G (Redmi Note 9 Pro), Snapdragon 665 (Realme 5i) and Snapdragon 675 (Redmi Note 7 Pro).

According to this test, the Ekinos 9611 on the Samsung M31 sits between Snapdragon 665 and 675 in terms of performance. However, Redmi Note 9 Pro is far ahead.

For the GPU test, we used 3D Mark.
