Update Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra Snapdragon 888 Price Review – Samsung launched the Galaxy S21 series in January 2021, a month earlier than the usual February launch schedule. The new smartphones bring great improvements such as smaller display brightness, faster chipsets and storage, and improved software. However, all this and more comes at a starting price of $799,000 for the Galaxy S21, which is $200 less than the Galaxy S20.
The flagship smartphone in the series, the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G, is priced at $199, which is $200 less than last year’s Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G. According to Counterpoint’s Component Practices Research, the S21 Ultra costs 7% less to manufacture than its predecessor. This price reduction is also due to the removal of the charger and headphones from the box.

With all these upgrades, has Samsung done enough to provide the best Android experience? Here is our long-term Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G review after using it for more than six months.

Samsung has always focused on CMF (Colour, Materials, Finish) for both the Galaxy S and Note lines, and the new S21 line-up is no different. At the launch event, Samsung took some time to explain the long process of creating the perfect black finish. It was then settled on black film and fog glass (Gorilla Glass Victus).
The result is a clean and smooth black finish that not only provides a good grip while holding the phone but also keeps away smudges and fingerprints. Even after six months of use without a case or screen protector, the Gorilla Glass has held up the Victus well and so far there are no scratches.
The camera module bump on the back is still there and the phone sinks when placed face down on a table, but it’s not a deal-breaker. The module rotates perfectly in the body of the phone.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra Long Term Review: Is It Worth It A Year Later?
Samsung has gone with a slightly brighter display (1500 nits) compared to the S20 Ultra (1400). Different viewing angles and vibrant colors let you enjoy HD content with incredible clarity. Whether you’re playing games or watching content on Netflix or YouTube, the viewing experience is amazing. There is a center-mounted hole-punch cutout at the top of the display for the front camera, but it doesn’t create much of a barrier when watching videos or playing games.
Unlike the Galaxy S20 Ultra, you no longer have to choose between a higher resolution and a higher refresh rate. Instead, you now get a variable 120Hz refresh rate at WQHD resolution. An interesting feature of the display is that it uses the LTPO (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) technology to ensure the best use of the battery. This allows the screen to automatically switch between 10Hz and 120Hz depending on the content.
For example, if it’s a static wallpaper or you’re reading e-books, the refresh rate can go down to 10Hz. When playing graphic-intensive games or watching videos and movies, the screen refresh rate automatically increases to a maximum of 120Hz. There is an option to drop the refresh rate down to 60Hz continuously, but you can’t force it to run at 120Hz all the time, and it won’t be a problem.
For security, Samsung is using Qualcomm’s second-generation ultrasonic under-display fingerprint scanner. It comes with 1.7x more space and over 50% faster recognition. In six months of use, I found that the scanner is fast and accurate in recognizing fingerprints and opening in a second.

The Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G is the first smartphone in the US to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC. The global variant (like my Indian review unit), on the other hand, is powered by the Exynos 2100 SoC. Both chipsets are manufactured on Samsung’s 5nm node. (We’re reviewing the SKU with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.)
Performance wise, the smartphone is a powerhouse. During my long usage, I didn’t notice stuttering or slowing down. Whether it’s using everyday communication apps or browsing the web or playing games, apps don’t feel sluggish at all. Samsung seems to have worked on improving memory management.
While a few apps in the background are minimized, the system is not aggressive in killing background apps even when demanding games are running. It allocates enough resources for the game to run smoothly. Samsung has done a good job optimizing the software and hardware.
However, the temperature control could have been better. After playing graphic-intensive games like PUBG Mobile, the back of the phone heats up in just 10 minutes. While this was at 120Hz, lowering the refresh rate to 60Hz warmed the phone, although it took a bit longer at 25 minutes. Similarly, the heat management is good when recording video at 1080p, but the moment you switch to 4K 60fps, the phone overheats 2 minutes into the recording.

The gaming experience is smooth, but the back of the smartphone gets hot when the refresh rate is set to 120Hz.
Another area of improvement may be in the ears. The in-call volume is very low. I had to hold my ear close to my ear to hear what the person was saying. But when media was played through the stereo speakers (with the earphones acting as a second speaker), the audio output was quite loud.
Finally, the battery life of the Green S21 Ultra 5G is very good. With a refresh rate set to an adjustable 120Hz and normal daily use including social media apps, listening to music over Bluetooth TWS, and a smartwatch connected at all times, it lasts a day of work. In terms of screen time, I got a little over five hours. By switching to a standard 60Hz refresh rate, battery life is closer to six hours with a single use.
The Galaxy S21 Ultra battery will last a normal day of work without breaking a sweat, but Samsung needs to catch up with competitors to offer faster charging capabilities. Camera: Excellent shooting in all lighting conditions
Samsung Galaxy S21 Fe With Snapdragon 888 Chipset To Relaunch Soon In India
Samsung has made major improvements to the camera system on the Galaxy S21 Ultra over last year’s Galaxy S20 Ultra. The primary camera now has an in-house 108MP ISOCELL HM3 image sensor (1/1.33″, 0.8µm) that brings better auto-focus, low-light and HDR performance. It uses nonpixel technology with 9×1 pixel-binning to produce 12MP photos by default. You can also click full 108MP resolution photos by turning on that feature in the settings. Photos shot at full resolution are approximately 30MB in size, while pixel-binned images are approximately 7MB.
Pro mode lets you shoot RAW photos that you can edit later. The size of these files is about 24MB. There are other interesting modes, such as Take One, which records a 5-15 second video clip. AI then analyzes the video and selects the best moments in the form of images with filters, model images, boomerang-like short video clips, dynamic slow motion and more. I tried it many times, and the results were amazing.
Speaking of quality, the camera takes some stunning photos with great detail and a wide dynamic range. The photo below was clicked on a rainy day. Handles clouds, green, seawater, barbed wire and rocks very well.
Close-up pictures look more detailed. The photos below are able to capture dust particles on leaves, drops of water on flower petals or a cupid that is clearly focused and the background is blurred.

If you want more clarity in close-up shots, there’s a “focus enhancer” mode that switches to an extra-wide lens. The whole frame is now in focus rather than just a subject with blurry edges.
The biggest improvement is seen in Night Mode which takes advantage of the large 108MP sensor that combines nine adjacent pixels into one pixel to capture more light. AI can intelligently choose the ISO settings between high and low. The result is a clearer picture with less noise. The photos below were taken in a dark-dark environment at midnight, and show the capabilities of the smartphone’s AI.
Now, while the Galaxy S20 Ultra featured a 10X hybrid zoom using a 48MP telephoto lens, the new Galaxy S21 Ultra comes with two telephoto lenses with each sensor having a 10MP resolution but a different focal length (70mm to 240mm equivalent). This allows 10X optical zoom and 100X spatial zoom. Images captured with 10X zoom are sharp and detailed.
Even at 30X, messages on trucks parked about 800 meters away were readable. 100X is nice and useful, but that’s it. What Samsung has done with the development capabilities of the S and Note series phones is commendable. More shots are posted below (ultrawide, 10X, 30X, 100X).
