Update Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5g 256gb Price Review – Once a year, I receive a Samsung Galaxy S-series smartphone to review. It’s good to understand how much the product evolves each year. And since the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G has been out for more than a month, there are plenty of reviews to convince or confuse you. Instead of drilling into specifications, I want to focus on the individual user experience.
The retail package comes with just three items – the smartphone, a USB-C to USB-C cable, and a SIM eject pin. For the price of S$1798 (256GB), I feel I’m not getting my money’s worth and expected more bells and whistles like what Samsung offers for the Flip series.

But then again, we know you’re really paying for a smartphone, and I applaud Samsung for creating a new design in the camera module that Samsung calls “contour-cut” that blends the camera into the phone’s frame. In a single seamless design. Perhaps, future iterations of the Galaxy series will see this design extend further to the back of the phone. For now, the rest of the back is fitted with a frosted finish, so finally no fingerprint smudges.

The front display comes with a pre-applied screen protector. While the glass is curved on the sides, the display is not like its predecessor. I don’t notice the front camera as the hole is so small and imperceptible that it draws you visually to the area unless you’re watching video content, which is rarely the case. The display is bright enough for me to see content in daylight, but I wouldn’t recommend doing so for too long, as it heats up the phone and drains the battery.
Overall, I wasn’t surprised when I used the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G as my everyday phone during the 3-week review. The UI is mature and smooth, but not that fast. It’s a design consideration that doesn’t speed up the transition, but I like it faster and gives the impression of a better running processor.
The S21 series is Samsung’s second-generation device that uses a 10x interpolated telephoto optical lens to deliver up to 100x spatial zoom. Camera quality in the zoom range has improved in leaps and bounds compared to the S20. I was able to capture fuller details of the full moon on the S21 Ultra 5G compared to the S20 Ultra 5G.
At the ultra zoom end, image stabilization is quite surprising. It can really balance your shots. However, when I want to move the position of my frame, the stabilization prevents the frame from moving and if you break the reframe, it moves too. There are also instances of “digital shake” where the camera is unsure whether to stabilize or pan. With a lot of feedback, I think this issue should be fixed with a software update.
Galaxy S21 Ultra—$200 Cheaper But Still Not Competitive
Although there are 5 round housings in the camera module, there are only 4 lenses. Nice visual trick from Samsung. There is a 12MP ultra-wide camera, a 108MP wide-angle camera, two telephoto cameras (3x and 10x optical) with 10MP resolution. Some key technical information on the camera system: It supports 4K 60fps video recording across the zoom range, so you won’t be handicapped with a limited zoom range. It uses non-binning to improve the night mode – combining 9 pixels into one.
Basically, with all these technologies, you can leave it to Samsung to decide when to use digital cropping and when not to use it, and when to use binning to reduce noise. The result is that sometimes when I squint at the pixels, I notice some images with less detail due to noise removal.
You can shoot 108MP resolution images with the wide-angle lens, but in-camera cropping is not supported. I think you can rely on the S21 Ultra’s camera to capture the full spectrum of your life, from ultra-wide angle to super zoom.
Night shots are also pretty capable, and to be honest, it’s realistic for all smartphone cameras to shoot decently in low light. Remember to shake hands and try to stay still while capturing the scene and let the camera do its job of absorbing as much light as possible to capture more dynamic range.

It’s nice that the S21 series supports the S Pen, which I find really useful, but not really necessary to carry around with me. So some people can keep the S Pen in a safe place and use it when needed.
I can’t review the other S21 series, but based on my experience with the S20, I think the S21 Ultra 5G is the pick. My reasoning: 100x spatial zoom is a killer feature not found in other phones. Top it off with S Pen support. But if these two features aren’t on your wish list, there are plenty of other Android smartphones that can do what the Galaxy S21 can do, and in a lighter package and lower price.
