The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra has been named the best Android phone of 2021. It has all the features you want in a phone, especially if you like big screens. Although it falls short of some of its top competitors, it’s still a great tool for any Android fan.
For $199,000 — or $100 more than the iPhone 13 Pro Max — you get a flexible 6.8-inch display and two telephoto lenses for crazy zoom. Additionally, the S21 Ultra supports the S Pen, a first for the Galaxy S series.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra is a monolith of a phone. Sure, the cutout camera design combines the camera bump with the glass back, but it’s still a great device that you’ll want to use with both hands. .
With a 0.35-inch profile and a weight of 8.08 ounces, the S21 Ultra is thicker and heavier than the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The screen is slightly curved, unlike the completely flat Galaxy S21, but not annoying. I’ve never had anything break on the screen like I did with last year’s Ultra.

One of my favorite design upgrades is the 1.7x larger fingerprint sensor. This makes unlocking the phone easy, and I found that the S21 Ultra didn’t ask me to tap the sensor again like previous phones.
The 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED display on the Galaxy S21 Ultra is simply one of the best displays on a phone. It’s bright, powerful, and doesn’t force you to opt for higher and higher refresh rates like its predecessor.
Yes, you will be amazed when you watch videos on this phablet. Colors are as rich as ever, and viewing angles are nice and wide when binge-watching on Netflix.
But the Ultra beats the iPhone with a strong refresh rate. Not only do you get super smooth scrolling and gaming, you now get 120Hz and quad HD resolution simultaneously. So you don’t have to choose between the best option and the highest refresh rate.

The good news is that the S21 Ultra’s display is easy to read as it can reach a maximum rated brightness of 1500 nits. In our test, the S21 Ultra averaged 821 nits, beating the iPhone 12 Pro Max’s 654 nits.
The S21 Ultra’s display showed more color in our lab test, with the panel producing 81.4% of the required DCI-P3 color gamut, compared to the iPhone 12 Pro Max’s 84.8%.
The iPhone’s colors were slightly darker, with its screen getting a Delta-E score of 0.07, compared to 0.35 for the Galaxy S21 Ultra.

Samsung says the S21 Ultra has a 3 million:1 contrast ratio, which is 50% higher than the S20 Ultra. There’s also an Eye Comfort Shield feature designed to reduce eye strain by limiting blue light.
It’s the cameras where the Galaxy S21 Ultra stands out the most against the S21 and S21 Plus. There’s a large 108-megapixel wide sensor and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, complemented by a laser autofocus sensor.
But now that the Galaxy S22 is the new kid on the block, Samsung has announced that it’s bringing some of the phone’s camera features to the Galaxy S21 Ultra, such as night photos with a telephoto lens.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5g Review: Lab Tests
The Galaxy S21 Ultra makes you feel like a secret agent when you step inside. While the iPhone 12 Pro Max was a 2.5x optical zoom, the S21 Ultra carries the phone’s two lenses with 3x and 10x optical zoom.
I was surprised how close I got to this sign on the highway. Zooming at 100x is shaky, but the new Zoom Lock feature helps you get a steady shot with just a touch.
The 108MP main camera can capture 12-bit HDR photos with 64x richer color data and three times more intensity than the S20 Ultra. Additionally, there is a 12-bit RAW file option in Pro mode.
I tried the camera at a nearby store to take a picture of the product and the green pepper in the foreground is bright and delicious. And you can make out amazing detail if you zoom in. However, the iPhone 12 Pro Max’s shot looks great in comparison.

The Galaxy S21 Ultra is also a great companion when you’re out and about. Take this photo of tall trees I took in a nearby park. You can pick out the best in the bark, and the phone does a great job of capturing clouds against a blue sky, even when it comes to all the shadows in the foreground. I like the S21 Ultra’s image a bit better than the iPhone 12 Pro Max in this case, but it’s really close.
Samsung claims to have improved the portrait mode on the S21 by improving the artificial intelligence to separate the subject from the background. The S21 Ultra offers a great bokeh effect. My skin feels warm on the iPhone 12 pro Max, but overall the S21 shot looks great.
The Galaxy S21 Ultra also performs well in low light, thanks to its fast Bright Night sensor and 12MP noise reduction technology. The photo is compared to the iPhone 12 Pro Max, although the colors of the iPhone look better.
The iPhone 12 Pro Max steps forward in this golden photo restoration. The image of the S21 Ultra is very bright and slightly washed out, while the fur is more golden and iPhone-like.
