Update Samsung Galaxy F62 Price Review – The Samsung Galaxy F62 brings to the mid-range segment a flagship SoC and a kind of battery life only seen in the M series. We note that the Samsung Galaxy F62 has a decent performance, with the best in the segment as the OnePlus Nord, with a battery life of almost two days that gives it an edge over the existing competition. Where the Samsung Galaxy F62 falls short of segment standard features is a high refresh rate and the lack of HDR certification. It also comes with only a mono speaker, so it is highly recommended to use headphones or earphones while consuming content on the phone.
The ink has barely dried on the reviews for the Samsung Galaxy S21 series of devices and the company has already launched a new phone. The Samsung Galaxy F62 is the company’s second smartphone in the F series and is quite a mid-ranger. Its claim to fame is the Exynos 9825 SoC that powers the Galaxy Note 10, so Samsung is positioning it as a mid-range smartphone with a flagship SoC, only the flagship is from two years ago. While things can be deceiving on paper, our smartphone testing process really separates the fluff from the reality.

The review unit we received is powered by the Exynos 9825 SoC which uses the 4-2-2 core design instead of the usual 6-2. These are four efficient Cortex A55 cores clocked at 1.95 GHz, two Cortex A75 cores clocked at 2.4 GHz and two Samsung’s own M4 cores clocked at 2.73 GHz. It packs a lot of performance into a 7nm chip and Samsung claims it can outperform even the most rugged mid-rangers, even the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765-powered ones like the OnePlus Nord (review).

Synthetic benchmarks testing the CPU and GPU lend credence to Samsung’s claim. AnTuTu scores for the Samsung Galaxy F62 comes in at 392374 while the Nord’s score is 319717. We see the F62 outperforms the Nord in Geekbench5’s single-core test, but is left behind by a small margin in the multi-core test.
Although the CPU performance may be on point, Exynos chips tend to underperform due to their use of the underpowered Mali GPUs compared to the Adreno GPUs on Qualcomm’s chips. In our GPU synthetic tests, the F62 again pulls ahead, but real-world use makes for a slightly different story. When profiling CoD Mobile and Asphalt 9 with Gamebench, we clocked a median frame rate of 58 fps running at 89 percent stability, while Asphalt 9 ran at 30 fps but at 91 percent stability. The OnePlus Nord, on the other hand, outperforms the F62 on both of these counts. Although the numbers could be a little lower, there was no noticeable stuttering or frame drops during gameplay and we are quite happy with that. The Mi 10i (review) has been added for reference, to show how the Samsung Galaxy F62 stacks up against recently launched devices in this segment. We didn’t include the Realme X7 Pro (review) because the Dimension 1000+ chipset on that particular phone was found to artificially inflate the benchmark scores.
On a daily basis, the Samsun Galaxy F62 leaves little room for complaints. There were a few moments of stuttering when switching apps, but this is a minor and very rare occurrence.
The second USP of the Samsung Galaxy F62 happens to be its mammoth 7000mAh battery. There is no other smartphone in the mid-range segment with a battery of this size, and Samsung hopes to really capitalize on it. Watch an hour of Netflix on the phone and you only lose 8 percent battery. Navigation on Google Maps for an hour with the screen on only 7 percent battery. In my usage, the phone lasted almost two days consistently, which is pretty good. On one occasion, the F62 also let me charge my iPhone 12 when it started running low on battery while on the road. While the phone lasts a very long time, the charging time is where it falters. The huge 7000mAh battery supports a maximum of 25W fast charging, which means that this phone takes almost three hours to fully charge. Luckily, you get a 25W fast charger in the box, so that’s a good thing.

Although there are four cameras on the back of the Samsung Galaxy F62, only three of them are actually usable. The primary 64 megapixel camera certainly delivers good results when shooting in binned mode. The colors are typical Samsung; In that they are nice and saturated, the dynamic range is good and best of all the photos are sharp enough. While you can see some examples below, there are many more in our Flickr gallery.
If you switch to the 64 MP mode, you get better details, yes, but you end up with some highlights and find a little lower contrast in the photos. A little time in Snapseed should fix the photos, but it won’t bring back the cropped highlights. Interestingly, the AF works great in photo mode, but switch to video and it can be a frenzy. It feels like a bug more than anything else, only triggered when you try to track a subject across the frame, and we hope Samsung can fix it with a future update. The 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera is average at best, producing photos with decent dynamic range but notable distortion. There is also a noticeable drop in sharpness as you go from the center to the edge of the frame. When shooting in strong lighting, don’t be surprised if you end up seeing some purple fringes. Finally, we have the 5-megapixel macro camera, which you prefer not to use. That’s because there’s no AF, no focus points, and no image stabilization. When you are 3 centimeters from the subject, the act of breathing will shift your focus, resulting in an out-of-focus shot. It took almost 15 tries to get one shot right and out of the 15 only 1 was passable.
When we move to low light situations, the primary camera delivers decent results, but only if you shoot in night mode. The default camera mode produces decent photos, but switch to night mode and watch the scene come alive. Unfortunately, the ultra-wide camera doesn’t deliver in the same way, although its own night mode is available.
Overall, the camera experience on the Samsung Galaxy F62 is satisfactory, but not exceptional. It’s not a camera stack that jumps out with exceptional quality or features, but is one that just gets the job done.
Samsung Galaxy F62 Review: Big On Performance And Battery
The Samsung Galaxy F62 has a 6.7-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2400 × 1080. If you expect a high refresh rate, you won’t get it here. The resolution and refresh rate limits are what could help the smartphone achieve the better battery life. The screen itself has a peak of 560 nits as measured by us, which is pretty impressive. Outdoor use is quite reliable because the super bright screen manages to combat the reflections to a great extent, making the content on the screen clearly readable. However, the phone doesn’t support HDR playback, which is a bummer.
The Samsung Galaxy F62 comes in a trio of colors and ours is the “Laser Blue” variant. The back is “glassy” but scratches easily. Only a few days of being in the bag and the back is already pretty rough, which adds to the hurt that Samsung no longer includes a case in the box. The right side of the bezel houses the volume rocker and most importantly, the fingerprint scanner that doubles as the power button. This is a feature that has worked very well for us in our use. It would be nice to see it go to more premium devices too to be honest. The SIM tray is housed on the left frame and while you get two SIM slots and a microSD card slot. Note that there is no rubber ring around the SIM tray, so water resistance is out of the question. The bottom has the USB-C port and the single speaker. In terms of design, the best thing about the Samsung Galaxy F62 is the new color treatment, which is a refreshing change but may not be to everyone’s taste.
The Samsung Galaxy F62 is a smartphone designed for people who want reliable performance, but more importantly, excellent battery life. The Exynos 9825 surprisingly still holds up, even though it’s from two years ago. The design will be a polarizing point for this smartphone, but the side-mounted fingerprint sensor is definitely a big draw. You also get dedicated SIM slots along with a separate microSD card slot which is great. The cameras are usable for social media and such, but the only camera that works reliably in harsh conditions is the primary 64-megapixel camera.
