Update Samsung Galaxy A51s Price Review – Samsung is revving up its A-series lineup with new models, starting with the Galaxy A71 and Galaxy A51 announced earlier this month. The Galaxy A51 is already priced in India starting at Rs. 23, 999. This new smartphone brings several iterative updates to the existing Galaxy A50s (Review) to keep the series fresh and relevant.
According to Samsung, the Galaxy A51 is one of the first phones in the series with an Infinity-O display and a macro camera. Apart from the highlight features, it retains many specifications of its predecessor including the AMOLED display, processor and design aesthetics. Apart from the Redmi K20 Pro (Review) and Redmi K20 (Review), there isn’t much competition at this price point, which could be an advantage for Samsung.
Update Samsung Galaxy A51s Price Review
The Samsung Galaxy A51 body has the same design as the Galaxy A50s. We have a full polycarbonate body, which is very light at only 172g and very slim, only 7.9mm thick. The glossy body is prone to picking up fingerprints, but they weren’t as noticeable on our Prism Crush Black camera. The finish of the back is also a bit slippery, but thankfully Samsung provides a case in the box.

The biggest change is the Infinity-O display that we’re seeing for the first time on a Galaxy A-series phone. It’s basically a single hole at the top center of the display, similar to what we saw on the Galaxy Note 10+ ( review ). Samsung may not have changed the design of the body much, but with a punch-hole display, the phone gives a premium look, which we appreciate. The Galaxy A51 uses a Super AMOLED panel with full HD+ resolution, which produces punchy colors and good sharpness. Thanks to the slim bezels around, it looks stunning from the front.
The button placement is ergonomic and on the right side we have a tray for two nano-SIM cards and a microSD card. At the bottom, we have the usual headphone jack, USB Type-C port and speaker grill. The Galaxy A51 has the familiar camera bump on the back, but now has a fourth camera. The punch doesn’t move forward too much, which is good.
The Galaxy A51 ships with the usual accessories like a 15W fast charger, Type C cable, headset, SIM eject tool and a case.
Samsung has stuck with the same Exynos 9611 processor as the Galaxy A50s, which feels a bit underpowered in 2020 and at this price point. The Galaxy A51 is available with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and both variants have 128GB of internal storage. Other specifications include dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5, GPS, NFC and FM radio. There are common sensors and the phone also has Widevine L1 certification. The Galaxy A51 supports Samsung Pay, so you can use it for contactless payments.
Your Galaxy A51 Will Only Receive Two Firmware Updates A Year From Now
The software running on this phone is Samsung One UI 2.0, which is based on Android 10. This new version looks and feels similar to the previous versions of One UI that we have used before, but Samsung has tweaked a few things. Tweaks to improve user experience. Changing the wallpaper is now easy, without being redirected to the Themes app.
Other minor changes include the location of permission access notifications from apps, which now appear at the bottom of the screen instead of in the middle. The sub-menu ‘Device Care’ also has a new look; Battery usage can now be tracked for the past seven days and not just since the last time the phone was fully charged; And you can now change the lockscreen app icons by swapping the default dialer or camera shortcut for DnD or Flashlight Toggle.
It still comes pre-installed with some bloatware, including third-party apps and Samsung’s own apps like Samsung Shop, but most of them can be uninstalled. To organize your SMS messages in the form of visual cards, multilingual predictive typing and smart crop, it claims to identify the most relevant part of a screenshot and let you crop it with a single tap. We found that the Smart Crop feature works best if there is an image in the screenshot.
The Galaxy A51 is very similar to the Galaxy A50 when it comes to everyday use. We really like the slim and light form factor. Navigation The interface was fast, but it did not feel very fluid. There were a few instances when we noticed a slight lag in system animations. Benchmark performance is good; Similar to what a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 or 665 SoC achieves. At the price Samsung is asking for this phone, it is a little low.

In AnTuTu, we got a score of 1, 86, 220 points, while in GFXbench’s T-Rex test, we managed 42 fps. The back of the phone gets a little warm when gaming and running stressful apps, but never uncomfortable. Thankfully, the Exynos 9611 SoC is quite competent in graphics. Both PUBG Mobile and Asphalt 9: Legends ran well with decent framerates.
Biometric authentication works well but it is a bit slow. The fingerprint sensor in the display takes a while to authenticate you and unlock the phone, and the same story with facial recognition.
The Galaxy A51 supports Dolby Atmos, but only if you have wired headphones plugged in. Audio quality is pretty average with the bundled headset, but this phone does better with higher-end aftermarket headphones. The bottom-firing speaker is not too loud but is good enough for personal listening. The display is one of the best aspects of this phone. The brightness is very good and the colors look vibrant, which makes watching any content very enjoyable.
Samsung used a 4,000mAh battery for the Galaxy A51, and it posted a decent runtime of 14 hours and 55 minutes in our HD video loop test. We easily managed to get through a full day of normal use, leaving enough power for another half day. It is fast charging and we were able to charge the battery to 67 percent in an hour. It took a little over two hours to fully charge it. It is relatively fast, but not faster than others in the segment like the Redmi K20 Pro, which charges up to 80 percent in an hour.
Samsung Galaxy A52 Vs. Galaxy A51: Is The Successor Far Superior?
Samsung has added a new 5-megapixel macro camera to the trio of cameras on the Galaxy A50s. They are a 48-megapixel primary sensor; 12-megapixel wide-angle camera; and a 5-megapixel depth sensor.
In One UI 2.0, the camera app has been reworked a bit and now has slightly different looking icons. Most shooting modes are now grouped together in the “More” menu, but you can add them to the main viewfinder interface if you need to.
The main camera captures oversampled 12-megapixel photos by default, but you can shoot at the full 48-megapixel resolution if needed. This option is hidden in the Aspect Ratio menu. In good light, the Galaxy A51 is able to capture detailed images of objects in the center of the frame. However, objects towards the edges usually look a bit blurry and are relatively soft.
In low light, the primary camera captured very good colors and details were well represented without much noise. There is a special night mode, but we do not find it to make a significant difference compared to pictures taken in normal photo mode, because the scene optimizer automatically adjusts parameters when low light is detected.
Samsung Galaxy A51 Review: Feature Rich Smartphone At A Premium Price Tag
A wide-angle camera captures pretty much anything in the frame, but it introduces pretty bad barrel distortion. Even after enabling the “Ultra Wide Lens Correction” option, some shots looked unnaturally warped. Photos shot with this camera in low light appear noticeably darker and have poor detail. Even night mode doesn’t help much here.
Live-focus mode blurs backgrounds for a more dramatic look. The image quality is good and the depth camera helps the Galaxy A51 do a good job in edge detection. You can adjust the blur level here, but this mode doesn’t have any extra effects like spot color that we’ve seen on other Galaxy phones.
Close-ups are also very good. Focusing speed is adequate in good lighting and we were able to capture some good shots. When you use a macro camera, you can get very close to your subject. Colors are not bad and the sensor picks up decent detail.
The Galaxy A51 can shoot video up to 4K, but without any stabilization. Video quality isn’t bad if shot in good light, but in low light, clips are grainy and detail is poor. You get stabilization at 1080p, but as a result, there’s also a noticeable shimmer effect when running. Continuous autofocus is also a bit slow.
