Samsung October 2021 Update Rolling Out To These Devices

The Samsung Galaxy A51 is an affordable Android phone that you can buy if you can’t afford the Samsung Galaxy S22 or Galaxy S21 or can’t get the Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition in your area.

It is cheaper than Samsung’s premium phones with discounts. We’ll explain these details in this Samsung Galaxy A51 review, but in short the back is plastic instead of glass, the cameras aren’t great (even if there are five of them), the chipset is underpowered, and like-for-like. Additions like water resistance are missing.

The classic Samsung features you get with the Galaxy A51 include a bold AMOLED screen and the same software as the Galaxy S21 series.

At $399 / £329 / AU$599 the Samsung A51 looks like a killer. However, there are more performance issues here than alternatives like the Moto G8 Plus and Oppo Reno 2Z. Android has very few moves. Some parts of the camera app sometimes work. Fortunately, games aren’t affected by the damage – don’t worry, PUBG fans.

Samsung Galaxy A51 Review: Not Great, Not Terrible, Just Extremely Samsung

Don’t expect miracles from the camera. Like many expensive quad camera phones, this is basically a dual-lens camera with some half-baked additions, although its third macro camera is better than most in this class, taking photos with a different approach.

Since we reviewed this device, Samsung has also released a smaller version called the Galaxy A51 5G. The device has not been properly tested, but the main difference is that it has a different chip and 5G connectivity.

The company has now also followed up with the Galaxy A51 and Samsung Galaxy A52 5G. This – and the 5G one – also features upgrades like a 120Hz screen, a larger 4,500mAh battery, more megapixels in its main camera and a different chipset.

Of course, it costs more, so the Samsung Galaxy A51 is still a good idea – it’s not one of Samsung’s best phones but it’s still a good choice.

Samsung Galaxy A51 & A71 First Impressions: Applying The Secret Sauce

The Samsung Galaxy A51 is priced at $399 / £329 / AU$599 so it’s a very affordable phone, and will primarily compete with the £379 (around $480, AU$680), and the likes of the Moto G 5G Plus. £299. (About $375, AU$535).

Other additions include the iPhone SE (2022) at $429 / £419 / AU$719 and the Google Pixel 4a at $349 / £349 / AU$599. Galaxy A51, no.

Well, the model we reviewed wasn’t, but Samsung released a 5G version for $500 / £429 (around AU$700). Although it is more expensive than the 4G version, it is not expensive as 5G phones come.

Of course, the prices listed above are launch prices, but if you shop around you might be able to find the Samsung Galaxy A51 for less now. At the time of writing we’ve seen it retail for $290 / £230 / AU$390.

Samsung Galaxy A51 Review: Great Screen, Bad Performance

You can get the Samsung Galaxy A51 in most countries where Samsung sells the phone, although the 5G version isn’t available in Australia. It’s a strange thing, and we don’t know if it’s a permanent condition or just temporary.

If you have less to spend then you can consider the new Samsung Galaxy A52 5G.

The Samsung Galaxy A51 offers some of the design features of Samsung’s flagship phones. But there are some offers that are not part of the expensive Galaxy S series.

The display bezel is minimal, and the front-facing camera sits in one of Samsung’s ‘Infinity O’ notch-holes. However, the back is plastic instead of glass and the front camera doesn’t blend into the front glass in most places.

Of course, the front glass covers the selfie camera. But the bottom panel is highly reflective, making the Samsung A51’s selfie camera stand out like a miniature monocle.

The side buttons are also plastic. The result? Samsung Galaxy A51 build is closer to Motorola Moto G8 or Oppo A5 2020 than high-end Samsung.

However, his back feels special. Like other new A-series phones, the Samsung Galaxy A51 has an end of the crossover line, a cut-out shape at the back and every shape is different. The underside is a canvas texture of thin lines, for example, that sits beneath the top layer of plastic.

It sounds simple, but when the Samsung Galaxy A51 catches the light you can see bright rainbow tones that can fit into the laser holes with curved edges.

Samsung Galaxy A51 Im Test: Was Kann Das 300 Euro Handy?

It can go a long way for the more expensive Samsung, especially since the larger four-lens camera setup on the rear is visible up front. The phone is a decent size, designed for media and wider than the Galaxy S20.

Like most phones at this price point, the Samsung Galaxy A51 doesn’t offer any official water resistance. But it does have a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is great if you’re not ready to jump into Bluetooth headphones.

It also has an in-screen fingerprint scanner, another attempt to make the Samsung Galaxy A51 look like a high-end phone. However, this is not a great scan. It’s slower than most and won’t recognize if the fingers are slightly apart or if you’re not very careful with your thumb position.

Samsung Galaxy A51 has a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED screen with 1080 x 2400 resolution. This is still a winner on paper, as many phones are priced with LCD screens.

Samsung Galaxy A51

OLEDs have a wider color range and better contrast than LCDs, because they use bright pixels instead of natural light. However, this isn’t one of Samsung’s biggest OLED panels for two obvious reasons.

The small OLED panel has a blue tint from any angle when you rotate the phone’s screen to the left or right. No big deal, because we all look at our phones first, right?

But this effect comes in a different way in Samsung A51. Keep it simple, steady, and have a blue banner at the top of the display. It’s only noticeable when large parts of the screen are white, like a web page for example, but it still shows that this isn’t one of Samsung’s best OLEDs.

The Samsung Galaxy A51 will have the added benefit of an OLED display. Its vivid screen mode looks very saturated, and contrast in dark rooms is much better than an LCD phone at this price.

Samsung Galaxy A51 Review: Doctor, There’s A Fly In This Ointment

Screen brightness is pretty good, if not in league with the Galaxy S20. High brightness may seem lacking when used indoors, but the Samsung Galaxy A51 becomes a device when taken outside in bright sunlight. It also vibrates with color and contrast to enhance visibility in complex situations.

It’s not clear enough to let you watch a movie in a day, but the interface and web pages are clear.

The Samsung Galaxy A51 is also certified for HD Netflix from launch, but does not support HDR video.

Reasons aside, this is a great phone for video streaming, anywhere indoors where the flip-up camera is a little distracting (if at all).

Samsung Galaxy A51 Review

Samsung Galaxy A51 has four rear cameras. But when you first pick up a camera you may wonder what the other half does.

There’s no zoom, a classic sign of a multi-camera setup where extra lenses are used to increase the numbers. We can’t entirely blame Samsung for this, as putting a good zoom camera in an affordable phone isn’t easy.

You get a 48MP main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide and a pair of 5MP cameras used for close-up macro shots and depth-of-field photos.

It’s not hard to see the complement: these two 5MP cameras. But the case is a little worse than, for example, Oppo recently proved. Oppo A9 2020 has two very impressive 2MP cameras.

Galaxy A51 Review: Samsungs Midrange Smartphone That Delivers Everything You Expect

The Samsung Galaxy A51’s 5MP macro camera might not see you win the Wildlife Photographer of the Year award, but it’s fun to play with. You can get really close to your subject and shoot things that the main camera won’t focus on. Its main issue, aside from image quality, is confusion. A slight hand shake can ruin your photo if the light level is not right.

This is still a useful macro camera, and another way to think about photography. Samsung
