We started this year with Samsung’s affordable Galaxy M series and A series smartphones as part of the company’s strategy to counter Xiaomi, Realme and others. Samsung covered each strategic price with $5,000. 8, 000 and Sh. 20,000 in a very short amount of time, and sometimes there is a lot of choice due to the sheer number of models and variants on offer. It’s been a while since this fast launch, and Samsung’s competitors have all updated their flagships, so it’s only natural that we’ll see a few updated models from the Korean giant.

The new Samsung Galaxy A50s is priced at $5,000. 22,999, which is a slight increase in cost compared to the Galaxy A50 (review). It joined the party shortly after the flagship Redmi K20 ( review ) was launched, and several other high-end phones have seen price cuts, placing them in the segment. Which of these phones should you buy with a budget of $5,000? 25,000? Let’s check out the Samsung Galaxy A50s to find out.

Galaxy A50 Gets December 2021 Security Update In Various Markets

Not much is new about the look and feel of the Samsung Galaxy A50s. When we reviewed Samsung’s first launch, the Galaxy M20 ( review ), we commented on how unusual it was and how it departed from the company’s previous models. Likewise, the Galaxy A50s is easily mistaken for phones from many brands these days, no matter which way you look at it.

The front of the phone is a full screen, with a small camera on the top (Samsung calls this design “Infinity-U”). The screen has rounded corners and thinner bezels on the sides and top. The edges are slightly curved, and we note that this is one of the few phones we’ve reviewed of late that doesn’t come with a plastic screen protector, something we wouldn’t expect or even appreciate.

On the back, we have a feature that Samsung decided to show off – an off-center geometric design with lines and different colors on each part. There are three options – Prism Crush Black, Prism Crush White and Prism Crush Violet – our review unit is the black version, but the colors on the back are various shades of grey.

Thankfully, the design isn’t as prone to picking up dirt and fingerprints as the Galaxy A50’s glassy bottom, but it still needs a few wipes a day to keep it looking its best. Although it’s more subtle than the specular reflections we’ve seen on previous phones, there’s still a very small ghosting effect in certain lighting conditions.

Samsung Galaxy A50 Review: The Ideal Midranger, Almost

The bottom has a USB Type-C port, a 3.5mm audio jack and a single speaker. The tray on the left houses two Nano-SIMs and a microSD card. The power and volume buttons are all on the right side, and the top is empty.

Weighing 166g and just 7.7mm thick, the Galaxy A50s is surprisingly easy to handle and live with. You may have to stretch a bit to reach the top of the 6.4-inch screen, but otherwise we have no complaints. The build quality is also very good, although the phone still feels like plastic, but not over the top. There is no mention of what kind of glass is used for the screen.

We didn’t see any scratches or scuffs on the frame or back panel during our review, but we’re using this phone with a plastic case. Luckily, one is included in the retail box. Samsung also throws in a 10W charger, a USB Type-C cable, a 3.5mm wired headphone jack, a SIM eject tool, and a quick start guide.

The first thing you notice when you open this phone is the clean Super AMOLED display. It’s 6.4 inches wide, but if you measure using the rounded corners, it drops to about 6.2 inches. The resolution is Full-HD+ at 1080×2340. There’s a bar at the top of the front camera, and a conveniently placed fingerprint sensor.

Samsung Galaxy A54 Im Test: Die Perfekte Kombination Aus Preis Und Leistung?

Samsung used an octa-core Exynos 9611 processor, which seems to be a slight upgrade over the Exynos 9610 that was announced in the Galaxy A50. Along with Mali-G72 graphics, you get four 1.74GHz ARM Cortex-A53 cores and four 2.3GHz Cortex-A73 cores. The chip has the same CPU, GPU and LTE capabilities, but supports higher camera resolutions.

That brings us to the phone’s big new feature, the 48-megapixel f/2 primary rear camera. It is equipped with an 8-megapixel f/2.2 wide-angle camera and a 5-megapixel depth sensor, while the front-facing camera has a 32-megapixel resolution and f/2 aperture.

There are two variants of this phone, but both have 128GB capacity. The only difference is that you get 4GB for Rs 4 lakh. 22, 999 or 6GB of RAM. 24, 999. It’s similar to how Samsung announced the Galaxy A50, and we don’t think it’s really necessary to have two similar options. Unless you use a lot of heavy apps and games, you won’t notice much of a difference.

The battery is 4000mAh, and you can charge 15W fast even if you charge 10W in the box. There is dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5, GPS, NFC and FM radio.

Samsung Will Update Android Phones For Four Years

Our unit comes with Samsung’s UI software version 1.5 and runs on top of Android 9 with the August 2019 security update. Thankfully, you can adjust the size and density of the home screen and app drawer through their settings.

There’s a lot of white space in the menu, and it seems like the big screen isn’t being used properly, especially in the notification shade and in the Settings app, which requires a lot of scrolling. This means that drop down menus and controls and even top lines are within click range. Many features have been set aside, including secure folders, Samsung Pay, kids mode, night mode, floating apps, and the creation of dual Messenger apps with independent contact lists.

A short press of the power button now invokes the Bixby voice assistant. To turn off your phone, there’s an on-screen Mini/Screen button on the quick launch that you slide up from the top of the screen to reveal. On the left side of the home screen are useful panels such as game scores and reminders, but there is also a lot of advertising content.

Bixby tasks let you schedule multiple commands with simple “if…then” conditions. For example, you can say
