Now that we’re done with the testing, let’s discuss what works and what doesn’t in our Galaxy A50s review.
Samsung Galaxy A50s has almost the same dimensions as the original Galaxy A50. It’s 3 grams heavier, and that’s probably the added heft of the 48MP camera sensor that replaces the 25MP primary shooter on the Galaxy A50.
Back in the day, we really liked the design of the Galaxy A50, and today we can appreciate it even more. In fact, this year’s phones have, on the whole, grown uncomfortably large and bulky, and the Galaxy A50, with its sleek shape and ergonomic curves, is a pure joy to handle.
Judging by the fact that we constantly receive inquiries from consumers asking for a “branded” option that is convenient for them to deal with themselves or their parents, the design should attract consumers to choose a phone from offline shelves or from personal recommendations.

The material used for the back panel is still plastic, but Samsung marks the variant’s with a stylish gradient that shakes things up without overdoing it. Add to that a great AMOLED display and you have a winner!
As with the Galaxy Note10, the Power key now doubles as the Bixby button. However, you can set it as the usual launch key (Settings >> Advanced >> Side key) or even configure the double-tap action to directly launch any favorite app of your choice.
The Galaxy A50 also has a fingerprint sensor and a USB Type-C port on the bottom that can accept 15W adaptive fast charging. This time, Samsung also bundles a protective case in the box.
The in-display fingerprint sensor on the A50s didn’t respond very consistently at first, but it’s been working fine since we reconfigured it. It’s not the best-in-class in-display fingerprint sensor, but after weeks of use, it’s still our favorite way to unlock the A50s. In addition, the Galaxy A50s also has Face Unlock and it works quite well.

Another strong suit is the Full HD + AMOLED display (good quality). Display Settings now lists Samsung’s new color presets—Vivid and Natural—of which Natural works best for us. Samsung doesn’t specify Gorilla Glass for any other form of scratch resistance, but the screen has an oleophobic coating to keep smudges away.
Contrast is high and the software exploits the brilliant AMOLED blacks with features like Always-on display and Dark Mode.
The screen has a front camera notch and the chin at the bottom is a hair thicker than what you get from competing phones from Realme and Xiaomi. In other words, it’s not as immersive as what you get on pop-up camera phones like the Realme X or Redmi K20.
We’ve enjoyed streaming videos on our Galaxy A50s and had absolutely no problem using it outside in direct sunlight.

The Galaxy A50 is powered by the Exynos 9610 octa-core chipset and the A50s got a minor upgrade – Exynos 9611. Samsung also adds Game Booster to customize PUBG game performance. In our testing, PUBG Mobile ran with some noticeable frame drops at HD and High settings, but performance was smooth when we switched to the Balanced and High settings.
The Galaxy A50s may not be an option for hardcore gamers but it will work fine for moderate and heavy users who don’t necessarily need to run heavy games at maximum settings.

One UI is one of our favorite Android skins, and it definitely gives Samsung a huge advantage over Xiaomi, Realme, OPPO, and Vivo phones that still use poor iOS-like interfaces.
There are a few apps pre-installed on the phone, but users have the option to uninstall them. For anyone wondering, the Galaxy A50s is Widevine DRM L1 certified and supports HD streaming on Netflix and Amazon Prime.
One of the most significant improvements over the Galaxy A50s is its camera. And to help it compete against a sea of phones with 48MP cameras, Samsung is adding one to the phone. The reference apps confirm that Samsung is using a Sony IMX582 sensor (the same sensor used in the Redmi K20 and Vivo Z1x).

The primary camera is paired with an ultra wide angle camera with a field of view of 123 degrees. The third sensor is a primary depth sensor with the aim of improving images. As with most other affordable phones, these additional sensors are located on the back.
The Camera app is modeled after the one Samsung uses in its high-end phones and has key features like best shot suggestions, scene optimizer, Super Slow-mo videos, and Document Scanner, apart from the regular ones like Super Night Mode.
In the right lighting, the Galaxy A50 can take well-metered shots with just the right texture and the right amount of detail. These images look better on the phone than they do when viewed on a larger screen.
The selfie camera does a good job outdoors and in well-lit scenes. Not so much in sensitive or low light.

The Galaxy A50s houses a 4,000mAh battery, which is a pretty decent capacity considering modern standards and requirements. The battery accepts fast charging. Samsung bundles a 15W adaptive fast charger in the box and you can also use a USB PD charger to charge even faster.
The speaker on the phone is loud enough and produces good sound quality. The sound through the headphones is also very nice.
The Samsung Galaxy A50s is a very premium phone that adds iterative improvement to the very popular Galaxy A50. The phone is elegant and very comfortable to use and bears the valuable Samsung brand. We’ve also seen some significant improvements in the software running on the phone.
However, when it comes to raw performance, it falls short of online exclusives like the Realme XT and Redmi K20. And the camera, while not a deal-breaker, doesn’t really give it an edge.

As before, each phone comes with a different flavored display. The A50s feature the primary “Infinity-U” cutout on the phone model. Meanwhile, the A30s have an “Infinity-V” notch on the OnePlus 6T model.
Samsung plans to offer the A50s in 4 and 6 GB RAM configurations. The base model will ship with 64GB of internal storage, with the option to upgrade to 128GB. Meanwhile, the A30s will be available in 3 and 4 GB of RAM, and 32.
