The big change is the Infinity-O display, which we see for the first time in the Galaxy A series phones. It is basically the same hole in the middle of the screen, like what we saw in the Galaxy Note 10+ ( Analysis). Samsung may not have changed the design much, but having a punch-hole display gives this phone a nice look, which we appreciate. The Galaxy A51 uses a Super AMOLED panel with a full HD resolution, which produces excellent colors and sharpness. It looks awesome from the front, thanks to the thin bezels around.
The placement of the buttons is ergonomic, and on the right side, we have a tray for two Nano-SIM cards and a microSD card. Underneath we have the usual headphone jack, Type-C port and speaker grille. The back of the Galaxy A51 has a pretty good camera, but now there is a fourth camera. The skin is not too sticky, which is good.
The Galaxy A51 ships with the usual accessories, namely a 15W fast charger, USB Type-C, headset, SIM eject tool and case.
Samsung stuck with the same Exynos 9611 processor as the Galaxy A50s, which in 2020 at this price feels weak. The Galaxy A51 is available with 6GB or 8GB of RAM, and both models have 128GB of internal storage. Other specifications include dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5, GPS, NFC and FM radio. The usual sensors are present, and the phone is Widevine L1 certified. The Galaxy A51 supports Samsung Pay, so you can use it for contactless payments.

The software running on the outgoing phone is Samsung One UI 2.0, which is based on Android 10. This new version looks and feels like the original version of One UI that we used, but Samsung has done it. A few tweaks to improve the user experience. It is now easy to change the wallpaper as there is a dedicated menu for this, instead of switching to the Backgrounds app.
Other minor changes include keeping the app permissions notification, which now appears at the bottom of the screen instead of in the middle. The ‘Device Repair’ option also has a new look; Current battery usage can be monitored for the last 7 days and not just from the last time the phone was charged; and now you can change the lock screen app icon, use DnD or flash to change the default dialer or camera shortcut.
There is still some pre-installed bloatware, including third-party apps and some Samsung apps like Samsung Shop, but most of it can be removed. Samsung has added some India-specific features to the Galaxy A51, such as the ability to organize your SMS messages in the form of a visual card, multi-language predictive text and Smart Crop, which claims to identify the most important parts of the screenshot and leave you to beat him with one click. We found that the Smart Crop feature works best when there are images and screenshots.
The Galaxy A51 feels much better than the Galaxy A50 when it comes to everyday use. The thin and light design is what we really like. Navigating the interface is fast, but not very pleasant. There was a time when we saw a slight lag in the system animation. Benchmark performance is good; corresponding to what the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 or 665 SoC will achieve. However, at the price Samsung is asking for this phone, it’s a bit of a disappointment.

In AnTuTu, we got a score of 1.86, 220, while in the T-Rex GFXbench test, we managed 42fps. The back of the phone gets a little hot when playing games and stressful apps, but it’s not uncomfortable. Fortunately, the Exynos 9611 SoC is capable in terms of graphics. PUBG Mobile and Asphalt 9: Legends run smoothly, with decent framerates.
Biometric authentication works well but is a bit slow. The in-display fingerprint sensor takes a few moments to show up and unlock the phone, and the same story with facial recognition.
The Galaxy A51 supports Dolby Atmos but only if headphones are installed. Audio quality is average with standard headphones, but the phone sounds great with high-end commercial headphones. The bottom-firing speaker isn’t particularly loud but is sufficient for personal listening. The screen is one of the best parts of this phone. The brightness is very good and the colors are good, which makes watching any content enjoyable.
Samsung has used a 4,000 mAh battery for the Galaxy A51, and it posted a good time of 14 hours and 55 minutes in our HD video test. We managed to get a full day of regular use out of it, with enough power to get us through another half day. There is fast charging, and we managed to charge the battery up to 67 percent in an hour. A full charge takes more than two hours. It’s fast, but not as fast as others in this segment like the Redmi K20 Pro, which charges up to 80 percent in an hour.

Samsung has added a new 5 megapixel camera to the triple camera setup on the Galaxy A50s. They include a 48 megapixel main sensor; 12 megapixel wide angle camera; and a 5-megapixel depth sensor.
In One UI 2.0, the camera app has been redesigned a bit, and now has a slightly different icon. Most shooting modes are now linked to the “OTHERS” menu, but you can add them to the main view if needed.
The main camera takes 12-megapixel photos by default but you can shoot at a full 48-megapixel resolution if needed. This option is hidden in the sidebar menu. Under good lighting, the Galaxy A51 manages to capture the full picture in the middle of the frame. However, the fringes tend to appear lighter and softer.
In low light, the main camera produces good color, with good detail without too much noise. There is a dedicated night mode, but we did not see anything significant compared to the shots taken in the standard photo mode, as the Scene Optimiser automatically adjusts the parameters when it detects low light.

A wide-angle camera captures every scene in the frame, but introduces serious barrel distortion. Even after the “Ultra wide lens correction” option is enabled, some shots still come out distorted. Photos taken with a camera in low light appear darker and have worse detail. Night mode doesn’t help much here.
This type of direct attention makes the fish invisible even more dangerous. Good image quality and depth camera enable Galaxy A51 to detect faces well. You can adjust the blur level here, but other effects for this mode like spot color, etc. which we have seen in other Galaxy phones, are missing.
Those who are close will also be fine. Focus speed was perfect under good lighting and we managed to capture some great shots. You can get closer to this subject when using a macro camera. The color is not bad and the sensor produces a little detail.
The Galaxy A51 can record video up to 4K, but without any stabilization. Video quality is not bad when shot in good light, but in low light, the videos are grainy and lacking in detail.
