Update Samsung A51 Galaxy Price Review – Samsung is updating its A-series lineup with brand new models, starting with the Galaxy A71 and Galaxy A51 announced earlier this month. The Galaxy A51 has already been launched in India at a starting price of Rs. 23, 999. This new smartphone comes with several upgrades that keep the existing Galaxy A50s (Review) series fresh and relevant.
According to Samsung, the Galaxy A51 is one of the first phones in the series to feature an Infinity-O display and a macro camera. Apart from these standout features, the AMOLED display has many of the same specifications as its predecessors, including the processor and design aesthetics. Aside from the Redmi K20 Pro(Review) and Redmi K20(Review), there isn’t much competition at this price point, which favors Samsung.
Update Samsung A51 Galaxy Price Review
The body of the Samsung Galaxy A51 has the same design as the Galaxy A50s. We have a finished polycarbonate that is very light at just 172g and very slim, just 7.9mm thick. The glossy body is prone to picking up fingerprints, but they weren’t as noticeable on our Prism Crush Black unit. The back finish is a bit slippery, but thankfully Samsung includes a case in the box.

The biggest change is the Infinity-O display we’re seeing for the first time on a Galaxy A-series phone. Just like we saw on the Galaxy Note 10+ ( review ), there’s basically a hole in the top center of the screen. Samsung may not have changed the physical design much, but the punchy screen gives the phone a premium look, which we appreciate. The Galaxy A51 uses a Super AMOLED panel with full-HD+ resolution, which produces dynamic colors and good sharpness. It looks different from the front as it has a narrow bezel all around.
The button layout is ergonomic and the right side has a tray for two nano SIM cards and a microSD card. At the bottom we have the usual headphone jack, USB Type-C port and speaker rack. The Galaxy A51 has a familiar camera bump on the back, but it’s now a fourth camera. The pump is not too sticky which is good.
The Galaxy A51 comes with the usual accessories like a 15W fast charger, Type-C cable, earphones, SIM ejector and a case.
Samsung has stuck with the same Exynos 9611 processor as the Galaxy A50s, which feels a little weak in 2020 and at this price. The Galaxy A51 is available with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM and both variants have 128GB of internal storage. Other specifications include dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5, GPS, NFC and FM radio. The usual sensors are present and the phone is Widevine L1 certified. The Galaxy A51 supports Samsung Pay, so it can be used for contactless payments.
Samsung Galaxy A51: Another Success?
The software running on this phone is Samsung’s One UI 2.0, which is based on Android 10. The new version looks similar to the previous versions of One UI that we used before, but Samsung has made some changes to improve. User experience. Instead of being redirected to the Themes app, changing the wallpaper is now much easier as there is a separate menu for this.
Other minor changes include placing permission access notifications from apps, which now appear at the bottom of the screen instead of in the middle. The “Device Maintenance” submenu also has a new look; Now you can track battery usage over the past seven days, not just since the phone was last fully charged; You can now change lock screen app icons, default dialer or camera shortcuts for DnD or flashlight toggle.
There’s still some bloatware pre-installed, including third-party apps and some of Samsung’s own apps like Samsung Shop, but most of that can be removed. Samsung has also added some India-specific features like the Galaxy A51. The ability to organize your SMS messages in the form of visual maps, multilingual auto-input and smart crop, which allows you to find the most important part of the screenshot and crop it with a single click. We found that the Smart Crop feature works best if there is an image in the screenshot.
The Galaxy A51 feels similar to the Galaxy A50 when it comes to daily use. The slim and light form factor is something we really liked. Navigating the interface was relatively quick, but it didn’t feel very fluid. There were a few instances when we noticed slight lag in system operations. Benchmark performance was decent; Depending on what the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 or 665 SoC can achieve. At the price Samsung is asking for this phone, it’s a bit low.

We scored 1,86,220 on AnTuTu and 42fps on GFXbench’s T-Rex test. The back of the phone got a little warm when gaming and running stressful apps, but never uncomfortably so. Fortunately, the Exynos 9611 SoC is very capable at graphics. PUBG Mobile and Asphalt 9: Legends both performed well with good frame rates.
Biometric authentication works well but it is a bit slow. The in-screen fingerprint sensor takes a while to recognize you and unlock the phone, and it’s the same story with facial recognition.
The Galaxy A51 supports Dolby Atmos, but only if you have wired headphones plugged in. Sound quality is average with the included earphones, but this phone sounds better with the more highly rated aftermarket earphones. The bottom speaker isn’t too loud, but it’s good enough for private listening. The screen is one of the best features of this phone. The brightness is very good and the colors are vibrant, making viewing any content very enjoyable.
Samsung has packed a 4,000mAh battery into the Galaxy A51, and it showed a decent runtime of 14 hours and 55 minutes in our HD video loop test. We were able to easily get through a full day of regular use, and we had enough power left for another half day. There is fast charging and was able to charge the battery to 67 percent in an hour. It took over two hours to fully charge. It’s relatively fast, but not as fast as others in this segment like the Redmi K20 Pro, which charges up to 80 percent in an hour.

Samsung has added a new 5-megapixel macro camera to the trio of cameras on the Galaxy A50s. They include a 48-megapixel main sensor; 12-megapixel wide-angle camera; and a 5-megapixel depth sensor.
In One UI 2.0, the camera app has been slightly redesigned and now has a slightly different looking icon. Most shooting settings are now grouped in the “More” menu, but you can add them to the main window if needed.
The primary camera takes 12-megapixel photos by default, but you can shoot at full 48-megapixel resolution if needed. This option is hidden in the Ratio menu. In good light, the Galaxy A51 was able to capture detailed images of objects in the center of the frame. However, things towards the edges generally looked a bit blurry and relatively soft.
In low light, the main camera captured very good colors and details were shown well without much noise. There is a special night mode, but it does not make a significant difference compared to photos taken in standard photo mode, the scene optimizer automatically adjusts parameters when detecting low light.

The wide-angle camera captures more of any scene in the frame, but it introduces some nasty barrel distortion. Even after enabling the “Ultra Wide Lens Correction” option, some images look abnormally distorted. Photos taken in low light with this camera looked dark and lacked detail. Night mode doesn’t help much here either.
Live Focus mode blurs the background for a more dramatic look. Image quality is good and the depth camera helps the Galaxy A51 do a good job with edge detection. You can adjust the blur level here, but there are no additional effects for this setting like the spot color we’ve seen on other Galaxy phones.
Close-ups are also good. Focusing speed is good enough under good lighting and I was able to take some good pictures. When you use a macro camera, you can get very close to your subject. Colors aren’t bad and the sensor picks up some detail.
The Galaxy A51 can shoot video up to 4K, but without stabilization. Video quality isn’t bad when shot in good light, but in low light, clips are grainy and detail is weak. You get stabilization at 1080p, but the result is also a noticeable shimmering effect when you walk around. Continuous autofocus is also a bit sluggish.
