After all, the phone carries a new design and brings with it some improvements in the hardware and even in the camera department. However, for those who aren’t sure, we’ve had the device for a few days now, where we tested it to see if the Galaxy A51’s claims are just an update of the Galaxy A50 from last year. it’s really true.
As the successor to the Galaxy A50, the new A51 should bear some similarities to last year’s mid-range phone. And considering how popular the first one was last year, that’s probably not a bad thing either.
That said, the moment you lay eyes on the A51, you’ll be reminded of just how close the two are in terms of design. The gradient Glastic back panel, metal frame and overall form factor of the device do very little to hide that both phones are cut from the same cloth.
However, Samsung has introduced enough DNA mutations into the A51 to ensure it stays fresh. For example, while you have a similar gradient pattern running on the back of the phone as we saw on the A50, on the A51 we now have a wider camera that makes the phone look more in line with that time.

The new camera module makes the A51 look more premium than its predecessor and combined with the Glastic back panel, will help Samsung justify the Rs 23,999 price tag of the device. But that’s only if the phone’s glass-like back panel remains clean — a task that’s harder than we thought.
As we know from our time with the Galaxy A51, the back panel is a smudged magnet, which greatly affects how the device looks to the eye.
The back panel merges into the device’s metal frame, where the volume rocker and power button sit to its right, with the left side of the frame intact, apart from a covered cutout for a dual SIM card tray that could be also put a MicroSD card in a special place.
Other flaws in the frame are the Type-C port, the 3.5mm jack and the speaker grille located at the bottom of the phone. The frame of the device also holds the display of the device which is 6.5 inches in size and can output a maximum resolution of 10802400 pixels.

Samsung uses an Infinity-O panel on the smartphone with an aspect ratio of 20:9. This particular decision makes it more suitable for playing games and consuming other multimedia content. And this is something we also discovered in our review of the device.
The Widevine L1 panel that supports Super AMOLED with strong colors is a joy to stream content, while games look great on the panel due to high color accuracy. Compared to the A50 from last year, the panel’s viewing experience is much more immersive as it’s a near bezel-less panel.
The bezel also has an on-screen sensor below it, which helps keep the phone’s design clean.

While the device has more achievements in its design and display, it is a mid-range smartphone when it comes to performance.
This means the Galaxy A51 performs well in most tasks you throw at it. However, when it comes to heavy gaming at work for hours, or even stress testing with benchmarks, the phone gives some ground to the most powerful smartphones on the market.
As such, the Galaxy A51 managed to achieve a total score of 158685 points in the AnTuTu test, while the device achieved an average score of 301 points in the single-core test and 1203 points in the Geekbench 5 multi-core test.
And that’s important because of the core hardware Samsung decided to pack inside the device’s beautiful frame.

While on the one hand, Samsung improved the amount of RAM installed on the main panel to a generous 6 GB, it decided to enter with the same chipset differently. The Exynos 9611 in the A51 has the same processor configuration as the A50’s Exynos 9610.
Based on the 10 nm FinFET process, the chipset consists of four Cortex-A73 cores clocked at up to 2.3 GHz for performance-intensive tasks and four Cortex A-53 cores clocked at up to 1.6 GHz. The Exynos 9611 SoC also includes the same ARM Mali-G72 MP3 GPU from its predecessor.
While it’s still a decent enough chipset for gaming and performance-oriented tasks in the early 2020s, it doesn’t inspire enough confidence to be called a future-proof SoC.
But back to the present, we found the A51 capable enough to perform well on a day-to-day basis. Whether it’s daily use apps, or multitasking between heavy apps, the smartphone doesn’t disappoint. Games also run well on the device, with titles like PUBG running smoothly on medium and high settings, while lighter ones like ALTO’s Odyssey run flawlessly for long periods of time.

We believe most of this is due to the highly optimized One UI 2 that Samsung ships out of the box with the device. The operating system is based on Android 10 and is the latest version of Samsung’s revamped One UI software.
Despite a bit of bloatware, it’s overall clean and brings to the table a lag-free, smooth experience that not only runs well, but looks premium while doing so.
One UI 2 on the A51 also gets some extra features that aren’t currently available even on flagship devices from Samsung. Many of them are part of Samsung’s Make for India initiative. The company claims that these features have been introduced based on extensive consumer research in India and are designed to help Gen Z consumers live fast and organized lives.
Is it done by phone? Well, to an extent yes. For example, the useful cards feature brings SMS to life by identifying the most useful messages for the user and organizing them in a clean visual card format such as Reminders and Offers. The Helpful Cards feature helps reduce SMS inbox clutter and allows consumers to find useful information quickly and easily.

Then there are features like Smart Crop and Multilingual typing, both of which do exactly what they promise to do.
Overall, helped by the improvements brought by the new UI code, the Galaxy A51 managed to perform well for a mid-range offering. However, if you’re one to look ahead to the future, its chip might be one of the reasons to avoid the phone.Samsung Galaxy A51: Camera
For a mid-range device, the Galaxy A51 gives you a lot of bang for your buck in terms of cameras. On top of the A50, the new device definitely comes as an upgrade. That’s because the Galaxy A51 has a quad-camera setup with a 48-megapixel primary lens next to a 5-megapixel macro lens, a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens, and a 5-megapixel depth-sensing camera.
Of this, the 48-megapixel pixel lens is definitely the highlight. As we found out in our review, the lens can click some impressive photos during the day, with excellent detail and accurate colors.

This lens also helps boost the camera’s low-light performance to a level where it’s now better than what we saw on the Galaxy A150 last year. However, this is not a gold standard by which the A50 wants to be judged.
