The Samsung Galaxy A50s is the latest example of this strategy, with Samsung updating its mid-range Galaxy A-series and GalaxyM-series to compete with rivals like Realme, Xiaomi, and Vivo breathing down their necks. The Galaxy A50s builds on the Galaxy A50, which was unveiled back in February, and offers more powerful camera hardware, a better processor, attractive aesthetics, and support for Samsung Pay. We got to spend some time with the Galaxy A50s and here are our first impressions.
The Samsung Galaxy A50s immediately catches the eye, thanks to its glossy back panel with a prism-like design. It has different areas that illuminate different colors when the light falls on it at different angles. The Prism Crush Violet variant is the go-to for its bright profile and glossy color scheme, but if you’re looking for a more polished finish, Prism Crush Black and Prism Crush White will serve you well.

The prismatic design is visible, but the glass-like back panel is a smudge magnet and quickly gets covered with fingerprint marks, just like before. The build quality is solid, and the slim profile ensures a comfortable grip. The curved back panel blends seamlessly with the frame, giving the Galaxy A50s a more premium feel.

Samsung’s new offering features a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-U display with full HD+ (1080×2340 pixels), which offers vibrant colors and impressive light output and good use of sunlight. However, the in-display fingerprint sensor is slow compared to other phones at the same price.
The Samsung Galaxy A50s is powered by the 10nm Exynos 9611 SoC, which appears to be the latest version of the Exynos 9610 that powers the Galaxy A50. The phone packs up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of built-in storage, while Android Pie-based One UI handles things on the software side. Support for NFC-based Samsung Pay also differentiates the Galaxy A50s from the Galaxy A50.
We like the clean look of the single UI, and in our brief experience, navigating through the UI, surfing the web, and multitasking are very smooth. We’ll quickly put the phone through its paces to see how well it handles intensive gaming and multitasking.
Samsung has also improved the Galaxy A50’s camera hardware and added a 48-megapixel primary camera to the phone, up from the 25-megapixel snapper on the Galaxy A50. There is also an 8-megapixel wide-angle camera and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. The selfie camera has also been upgraded to a 32-megapixel sensor.
Samsung Galaxy A50s First Impressions
The company has added a Night Mode to the Galaxy A50s, a first for a mid-range Galaxy A series phone, along with a Super Steady mode for video recording. We will fully test the camera to find out if the new sensor and dedicated night mode make a real difference compared to the Galaxy A50. The Galaxy A50s comes with a 4,000mAh battery, and the retail package includes a 15W fast charger, which is definitely a perk.
At a starting price of Rs. 22, 999, the flagship Galaxy A50s and other well-received phones like the Redmi K20 (Review), Poco F1 (Review), and Vivo V15 Pro (Review), to name a few. The overall package is pretty small for the asking price, but we’ll leave the final verdict for the review when we look at the camera, day-to-day performance, and battery life. The Samsung Galaxy A50s has a 6.4-inch full-HD+ Infinity-U Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,340 pixels. It runs Android 9 Pie and is powered by Exynos 9611 processor. The smartphone is available in two variants – 4 GB RAM + 128 GB storage and 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage. It has a 4,000 mAh battery that supports 15 W fast charging.
On the camera front, the smartphone has a triple camera setup on the back. This setup includes a 48 MP main sensor, an 8 MP ultra-wide lens and a 5 MP depth sensor. On the front is a 32 MP camera for selfies.

There is nothing new about the look and feel of the Samsung Galaxy A50s. When we reviewed the Galaxy M20 (Review), one of Samsung’s first aggressive forays, we noted how it felt and how it broke away from the company’s previous designs. In addition, the Galaxy A50s could be mistaken for a number of phones from today’s big brands, no matter from which angle you look at it.
The front of the phone is all screen, with a small camera notch at the top (Samsung calls this design ‘Infinity-U’). The corners of the screen are rounded, and there is a thick chin while the edges and top border are very thin. The corner is slightly curved, and we note with interest that this is one of the few phones we have seen recently that does not come with a plastic screen guard to stick, which we do not mind, and we appreciate it.
On the back, we have a personal touch that Samsung has decided on – a geometric pattern without a center with diagonal lines of different colors in each part. There are three options: Prism Crush Black, Prism Crush White, and Prism Crush Violet – our review unit is the black version, but the back comes in various shades of gray.
Thankfully, this design isn’t as prone to picking up smudges and fingerprints as the Galaxy A50’s glass, but it still needs to be wiped down several times a day to keep it looking its best. There’s still a very slight prismatic effect in certain types of lighting, though it’s more subtle than the prismatic look we’ve seen on previous phones.
