You may remember the Galaxy A50 (review) from earlier this year. It was a sleek and attractive smartphone with an AMOLED display, in-display fingerprint sensor and battery life, all for under Rs 20,000. attractive design and upgraded hardware such as the new Ekinos 9611 SoC and 48 MP triple camera.

Samsung Galaxy A50 Review: A Brilliant Mid Ranger At A Great Price

While the Galaxy A50 started at just under Rs 20,000, the Galaxy A50s is available at a slightly higher starting price of Rs 20,999. We browse to find out. Galaxy A50s design

Holding the Galaxy A50s will instantly remind you of the Galaxy A50. It brings the same sleep, slim and light body we loved in the original model. The Galaxy A50s is 7.7mm thick and weighs just 166 grams, making it an incredibly light and easy-to-hold smartphone. The slim shape combined with the curved back panel feels great in the hand.

The curved back panel is made of plastic, which makes it a bit more disappointing for a phone priced above Rs 20,000. That said, the plastic body makes the phone light and comfortable to hold, so that’s a positive trade-off if there is one.

The biggest visual change comes on the dashboard itself, which gets a checkered pattern on the rear, with each box offering a different shade of the same color. The Galaxy A50s comes in Prism Crush Black, Prism Crush White and Prism Crush Violet colors. The purple color definitely stands out from the rendering. I got the black version, which actually looks gray and offers a prism-like gradient when you look at it from different angles.

The Galaxy A50s is a tall phone, but it’s easy to use with one hand. Reaching the top of the screen will require some adjustment with your grip, but the buttons are a good length and have a very nice tactile feel. The volume keys and power button are located on the right side of the thin bezel. On the left side is a SIM tray where you can insert two nano SIM cards and a microSD card. At the bottom of the bezel, you can see the 3.5mm headphone jack and the speaker grille on either side of the Type-C port. Galaxy A50s screen

Samsung hasn’t changed a thing when it comes to the display and rightly so. The Galaxy A50 offered a stunning 6.4-inch FHD+ (2340×1080) Super AMOLED Infinity-U display, which returns to the Galaxy A50s. Unsurprisingly, the AMOLED display looks fantastic with vibrant colors, excellent brightness levels and viewing angles.

The Galaxy A50s gets a 1080p resolution, which is clear and crisp for watching videos, playing games and reading texts. An added bonus here is that the phone is also Videvine L1 certified, which means you’ll be able to stream content on platforms like Netflix and Prime Video in true HD definition. Samsung uses the latest 2.3GHz Equinos 9611 SoC chipset inside the Galaxy A50s. A50 got Ekinos 9610. The difference between the two processors is marginal, so don’t expect a huge performance boost. The Ekinos 9611 is based on a 10nm FinFET process and is equipped with the same Mali-G72 MP3 GPU as its predecessor.

Samsung Galaxy A50 Review: Flagship Looks At A Mid Range Price

Out of the box, the Galaxy A50s are as you’d expect. Apps open and load quickly, and I haven’t experienced any crashes while using them. The 6GB RAM model we received for review can handle switching between apps with ease, though you may experience some stuttering while doing so.

The Galaxy A50s performs well enough for everyday use such as browsing the web or social media apps, text messaging and video streaming. However, it won’t feel too fluid or smooth, as you’ll notice some stuttering when moving through apps. It will run games like PUBG smoothly on medium graphics, but anything above that will cause frame rate drops and lag. The 10nm chipset is quite efficient and helps reduce battery drain while playing games.

Overall, the Galaxy A50s delivers decent mid-range performance, but a lot more is expected from a phone priced above Rs 20,000 today. Its speed is nowhere near the Redmi K20 in this segment. It feels even slower than the Realme XT, which costs around Rs 16,000. As long as you don’t stress it too much, the Galaxy A50s should be fine, but you have to be careful.

The Galaxy A50s ships with One UI based on Android Pie. It is unclear when the phone will be updated to Android 10, but Samsung is quite consistent in updating its portfolio to the latest version of Android. By now, you’ll know that One UI offers a system-wide dark mode that the Galaxy A50s’ AMOLED display can really take advantage of.

One UI also brings a cleaner and smoother interface with a new layout that lets you do most of your work with just one hand. Aside from a few Samsung apps, Microsoft Office apps, and third-party apps like Helo, DailyHunt, and Snapchat, you won’t find much bloatware on the Galaxy A50s.

The Galaxy A50s has an in-display fingerprint sensor and face unlock. Both biometric variants are slower compared to brands like Oppo, Realme and Vivo. The fingerprint sensor, for example, works slowly, and the animation is not smooth at all. The bottom speaker can be loud, but it’s not exceptionally clear at high levels. The Galaxy A50s also supports Dolby Atmos surround sound via wired and Bluetooth headphones. The Galaxy A50s camera

Samsung has improved the triple camera setup on the Galaxy A50s. While the A50 offered a 25-megapixel primary camera, the Galaxy A50s gets a 48-megapixel sensor that keeps it in line with the competition. The other two cameras in the setup include an 8-megapixel wide-angle lens and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. The selfie camera has also been bumped up from 25MP to a 32MP sensor.

The Galaxy A50s cameras are definitely capable of keeping up with phones like the Redmi K20 and Realme XT. Their main camera is capable of taking some really good photos in daylight, which is no surprise. Provided you have a good amount of light in your environment, the Galaxy A50s will take attractive photos.

However, in low light the phone starts to struggle. A dedicated night mode still doesn’t provide the kind of computational photography that Oppo and Xiaomi can deliver. Photos will look grainy despite the noise reduction doing its best, and the overall image will look softer than clear and detailed.

You can easily switch between the main camera and the wide-angle lens to add more space to the frame. The wide angle is great for tight spots or if you’re looking for a new perspective shot. Note that quality drops as you go to the 8MP wide-angle lens. Compared to the high-resolution main camera, wide-angle photos will not lack detail and clarity. A change in color tone is also noticeable and the photo will appear darker compared to the main camera.

The Galaxy A50s can capture some sharp and beautiful videos in 1080p and 4K. It can record 4K videos at 30fps, which looks pretty good, but it will be more choppy compared to 1080p recording. The camera gets EIS (electronic stabilization) when recording at 1080p, which is good enough if you’re shooting handheld while walking.

The upgraded front camera also takes some sharp and natural selfies in daylight with the beautification effects turned off. The sharpness and clarity of selfies will decrease as it gets dark indoors or after sunset. Battery for Galaxy A50s

Samsung Galaxy A50s Review: Shines Like A Prism

Samsung didn’t feel the need to upgrade the battery inside the Galaxy A50s. It gets the same 4000mAh capacity as the original A50, which is good. The Galaxy A50s will last you all day on a single charge, but don’t expect the phone to last longer than that. I found the battery life to be pretty consistent no matter what I did throughout the day. Battery consumption in standby mode is minimal and you can use Always On Display without worrying about significant battery drain.

The Galaxy A50s supports fast charging up to 15V, but the company only offers a 10V charger in the box. If you have a 15V charger, you can fully charge it
